I think Diego was well deserving of the contract bestowed upon him after the Ultimate Fighter season 1. I haven't seen a kid so hungry to become champion ever. Undefeated, and he's beaten everyone the UFC has thrown at him. Someone posted that Matt Hughes may use Diego as a training tool to get back to rematch St. Pierre.
A Matt Hughes/Diego Sanchez fight would be a headliner I think. Both are very talented fighters and for Diego to put his undefeated record on the line would (to me) mean he honestly believes he is the best and is deserving of the championship. I don't know who would win the fight, Matt Hughes is not to be underestimated. But Diego is extremely aggressive and has savage ground and pound. This would be an awesome fight.
What do you think? Do you think Diego Sanchez, right now, is championship material? Do you think he could beat a Matt Hughes or George St. Pierre?
I think the kid has hunger, and he has confidence, and he has amazing stamina, but I think he lacks the skills to beat a truly world class champion at this stage in his career. |

| He is a good fighter but he lacks the speaking skills to get people motivated to want to see him so that might be bad for the UFC in promoting the sport. |

Are you saying this because he doesn't talk a lot of shit about the other fighters? I think the kid really feels this is his career... ie, I go in, fight some dude for money, and go home with a paycheck.... the more I win, the bigger the paycheck....
The guy is undefeated! I can't WAIT to see him fight again, I can't wait to see who finally ruins that record... That's a bigger draw to me than seeing Tito/Liddell 2 or sylvia/arlovski 4

I think Diego IS a draw right now for the UFC, because he has an undefeated record, and he was one of the stars of Ultimate Fighter 1.... but those will soon fade and he will have to create an 'arch-enemy' of sorts, like Liddell/Couture or Shamrock/Ortiz if he wants to continue to be a draw.... |

I absolutely agree with this statement... please read the last sentence of my original post.
VERY good fighter... I respect his undefeated record..... He hasn't just beaten a bunch of idiots in the ring.... but defenitely not up there with St. Pierre or Hughes. These guys have been training and been in so many fights, in or out of the octagon.
But I think a Hughes/Sanchez fight would be cool to watch. I'd love to see what Diego tries to do against a champion.... |

If you agree with that statement, why did you make the fucking thread?
Diego isn't a draw either, moron. He's headlining free tv shows that are getting worse ratings than they were a year ago.
Meanwhile, Tito, the guy who you demean for talking shit about other fighters, has been consistently drawing in excess of 600,000 buys fighting a corpse.
Didn't you say you were going to stop talking about MMA like a month ago? |
