What is so special about this guy? 5 yrs, 70 mill?!?!? This is all Bor-ass. If he had any other agent he would not sniff 70 mill.

He is a career .286 hitter, only hit 30 HR once and 100 once, he has never played more than 146 games in a season, he is not clutch, an average outfielder.

Boston fans- are you going to tell me you are happy with paying this guy 14 mill/yr.?
Also, he will choke when he plays the Yankees.

I wont say that I disagree with you, but coming from a Yankees fan I dont think your opionion carries much weight. :D
timdawg6
Im a Phillies fan and he snubbed us, but if they pay that much for that fool, then baseball is doomed and so are the Phillies, we will have to pay Ryan Howard 150 million

I am NOT a Yankee fan. I hate both teams. I was just making an observation on Mr. Drew.
ArtieRules100
I might add that I am a Mets fan and I don't think Barry Zito is worth 17 mill./yr.. Not even close. If you are ranking pitchers he would have trouble cracking the top 15.
KingOfAllWhites
This certainly will make Beltran look like a bargain!
ArtieRules100
I wish we had jumped on Oswalt during the season. He is much better than Zitto.
toobstake
I am a Dodger fan and you can have him.

-frequently injured
-plays without passion
-not clutch
Nickd
Who will be the first player to a half billion contract? My (insignif) money is on Pujols. Good lord could baseball ever use a cap
KingOfAllWhites
Half Billion?

We know one thing...he will play for the New York Yankees
thekev1130
He's a much better than average outfielder. He has a cannon.

drew is a turd, as a cardinal fan i know all about the pussy. his best year, was when will clark rode his ass, if you dont ride him, he plays like a cunt. always injured in some way or fashion.

he had soooooooooooooooo much talent, no ballz to get it out.

shame

Sounds like a Red Sox to me, OOOOooooooooooooo
elroyjonz
Everywhere this guy has played the fans have disliked him. Wait until the Boston media get ahold of this guy. The Red Sox are going from a "Dirt Dog" RF Trot Nixon to a Nomar GLASSciaparra RF.
ArtieRules100
Matsuzaka looks like a pimp. If the Sox get Clemens back their going to the Series.

Matz has not thrown a ball in MLB and everyone knows the odds are if Clemens does come back and skips the Astros, he would go to the Yanks before the Red Sox.

So if Clemens comes to the Yanks in late June, are they going to the World Series?
xciceroguy
J.D. fucking Drew not worth a shit. What a mistake to sign him.
thekev1130
I bleed Cardinal red and have been a season ticket holder since 2000. JD is a 5 tool player who, when motivated can be a truly special player. I think he has been babied far too much and has only played to his potential one year, his walk year, in Atlanta. That being said, when Gary fucking Mathews Jr. is getting 10 million a year, I don't see the Drew signing as that ridiculas as he does have a hell of an upside.
KingOfAllWhites
Whoever gets Clemens is going to be disappointed.

He only pitched a half year and to say he struggled at points would be generous.

He also sucked down the stretch last year.

I would not want him on my team...And I say this before anybody knows where he is going
ArtieRules100
All I know is Drew's underachieiving will not fly in Boston and if he dogs it he will get eaten alive in that city.

People could have said the same thing about Abreau and the Yankees.......they still might before his stint is done

I don't think Abreau has missed a fraction of the time that JD has. Abreau has consistently been the best player on the Phillies over the past 6 years or so. Abreau also made an awesome transition from the NL to the AL.

Actually, the Red Sox failure to grab Abreau before the Yanks pretty much sealed their fate in regards to missing the playoffs and finishing 3rd........

I was talking more about the "dogging it' part not the talent.
timdawg6
JD Drew is garbage, this will kill the Sox if they get him, Boston finished in third? Who came in second?
KingOfAllWhites
Toronto beat out Boston by a game for 2nd place

Well, he isnt playing in front of 15,000 in Philly any more, now it's 50,000 + a game....I hope you are wrong, but in any case, the Yankees grabbing him helped us win the east and cost the sox to drop to 3rd, bad more by Theo

Lets be honest, they were winning the NL East regardless of Abreau or not.

This team won the division by 10 games, not 1.

no doubt he was a big reason why they won the east. if the sox grabbed him, maybe they get the wild card, who knows

Red Sox were not winning anything with the pitching they got last year.

But your right, you never know...thats why they play the game.

JD Sucks !!!!! and so does Scott Boras! JD will never be the next comming of Jim Rice.

Rice? HAAAAAAAAaa, if Rice, besides Teddy who HATED Boston, the best the Sox had? He isn't even a Hall of Famer. If that is the case, THEY CAN HAVE HIM
jimmyritt33
he's never live up to "the Next Mickey Mantle" hype and injuries have stymied his career. he's not worth the money the BoSox are going to pay him. but for some reason if he stays healthy, i'd take a shot at him. he puts up respectable numbers.
KMSDEMON
the sox are trying to reword the contract so that if he sucks they dont pay as much.

and if they dont get it done i think the deals off , which is what i'm praying for.

no one other than ownership wants him.

It wasn't Scott Boras or JD Drews fault that the Phillies were fucking dopes! Boras gave the Phillies fair warning of the kind of $$$ they wanted. The Phillies drafted him anyway to try and call their bluff. The Phillies never thought that a player like this would sit out a year (or play in an independent league) and get re-drafted. Look at the Phillies track record and then you'll see who sucks!
ArtieRules100
respectable numbers are not worth 14 mill./year.

that sums it up in a nutshell.

Drew has been a bucketload of promise and no payoff his entire career.

The Phillies were right about Drew, he wasn't worth it!

Now explain how they kept Ryan Howard ?

You can say that now, but at the time when it all went down were you? The Phillies, at the time, thought "Well we'll draft this kid, slot him into a contract." But the Phillies, being the cheapskates they are, didn't offer him what he wanted so he sat out. At the time Boras warned the Phillies that they were going to ask for so many million and if they weren't going to give it to Drew not to draft him. so the whole JD Drew fiasco was the Phillies fault not Boras and Drew. the rest is history.

Howard still has a couple of years before you can even think about it. I just hope that if I am the Phillies I can sign BOTH Chase Utley and Howard. For some reason I think in 5 or 6 years they'll only have one of the two.
Billyfromsphily
The Phillies were playing Brinkmanship and the other guy blinked! Your right! At least Pat Gillick has them on the right track until Bill Giles and his gang of yes men and the ownwrs fuck it up!

I'm a Dodger fan.

I am thrilled that we are rid of this guy. Our previous GM Paul DePodesta signed Drew as a free agent two years ago and allowed Adrian Beltre to walk. No one in L.A. has ever understood why this happened. Over the last 2 years, I've watched Drew under-achieve, strike out during key situations and show zero emotion on the field. He was a waste at $10 million per season that the Dodgers signed him for and he's a bigger waste at what the Sox signed him for. At least here in L.A., he could loaf and get away with it because our fans aren't as harsh as Boston fans.

I'm looking forward to seeing what the Dodger's youngsters Ethier, Kemp and Loney might do playing in right field. I am ecstatic that Drew is gone. Drew was the last remaining mistake from the DePodesta era.

I agree with you on everything except Beltre- clearly he was not the same player after his contract year. Plus, I think he was juiced based on his decline the year after.
