Strange... mine works inside... and at the gym.... and while biking around town... and at work... and in stores...
Oh yea, it's called TERRESTRIAL REPEATERS! Read before you buy. Both XM and Sirius need repeaters nearby to get reception indoors. |
|
|
| sfgirl |
| Well that sucks. I hope you saved the box, receipt, etc. Return it. That's a whole lot of money to spend on something that doesn't work in your area. Or cut your losses and sell it on eBay. |

It's all about area- check dogstarradio for repeaters in your area. No repeaters could mean you're going to have a tough time getting reception indoors. |

If you have $350 of credit you can get a crap load of stuff. It's not all bad. At least I hope not. |

First, check if you are near a repeater. You can do this by going to: http://www.dogstarradio.com/sirius_map.php
If you are within the blue circle of a repeater then you should be good. You can also check by looking at the signal indicator of your receiver. If you constantly get more than 50% "Terrestrial" on the signal, you are also close to a repeater. If you are not, the other option you have is using the internet radio feature. You would need a wireless router for that. If you have it and are having problems let us know and we'll help you out with it. If you are not within a repeater and don't have access to wifi internet unfortunately the Stiletto won't meet your expectations.
BTW, being that I live near repeaters and I have wifi I LOVE MY STILETTO. And I have it thanks to TSS. :) |

Exactly. I'm always amazed at how many people think the Stiletto (or any other portable satellite receiver) will work without a line-of-sight to the satellite signal. That's the beauty of the Stiletto 100: Sirius Internet Radio. |

if you're password protected enter the key. of course make sure it's your network and not your neighbors. The stiletto lets you hold 2 diff keys for wireless networks that are secured i believe. |

And just to add, make sure you have MAC filters eother off or configured to allow the MAC address of your Stiletto. |

Very true took 2 seconds to hook up to wireless. I have a linksys wireless-G router I thought it only worked with wireless-B. I took a shot and it works great! If iwant to use it at the gym I will use the first 1 1/2 hour I recorded in the 6-7:30am time frame before gettin to LA Fitness |

| I live in the New York area and catch the Metro North commuter train into work. Has anyone tried using the stilleto on this? Being able to listen to Howard on my commute would be my main reason for getting it, so if it doesn't work I'll stick with listening on the computer. |

Your guess is as good as mine.

My Xact XTR1 and Power Pod work well on the LIRR, though. |

1st of all you have to install the software that came on the CD with your stiletto. after that is as simple as hooking it up to your USB port and drag the music over from your music files to the stiletto. |

I just got mine...The WiFi feature is great. I can just switch on when I want. So at 6 am. instead of even getting out of bed, I can just put them earbuds on and start the show.
Gotta have WiFi, or else move next to a repeater. |

I had a sportster. Instead of using the FM wire that came with the Stiletto, I used the one out of my Sportster.
The FCC cracked down on the FM transmitters last year, and the strength the newer ones have is a lot less...basically you get more static. |

I had it all set up. I bought the home kit put the antenna on the roof and set to record everyday from 3am to 9am so I when I wake up I don't have to catch a replay midway. BTW I am on the west coast so getting up to hear live shows aint gonna happen. Anyway last night I go into the bedroom and see "Sirius Connect" on display. It wont' let me go back, it won't let me do anything. It's freakin' frozen. I call tech support and they tell me to take off the battery for 5 min and try it again. Ta-Dah it works again. 2 hours later I get the same thing. I call tech support again and basically long story short. They said take the radio and the home kit back to the store to get a new one of each.
I hope this is not recurring because I really like the Stilletto and the recording of shows. I always miss the SFN show because of work so setting up a record of the show allowed me to listen later. |

I've used my Stiletto for a couple of weeks now and I think it is pretty good product. I don't mind the antenna headphones, but that is a subjective thing.
The reception is pretty good, the only problem I have is that I could walk under a tree and lose signal and then walk through the lobby of a building or be sitting on the train and not lose signal for a second.
I love the car dock, it is much more compact than what I was using and the fact that you can clip it into the vents so there is no "permanent" adhesive or anything on your dash is nice.
The mp3 aspect is nice as well, I have over 200 songs on there right now with a little bit more room to use.
6 out of 10 might be a little harsh, I would probably go around an 8 to 8.5
It is a little bulky even with the slim battery, but not terrible
Just one man's opinion. |

Any idea on when new improvements (if any) will be coming out?
As for now, I might keep my S-50.
It works fine for me. |

I have a headphone jack issue. Will Sirius send a new one out or do I have to wait months for repairs under the warranty? I'm past being able to return it, though I was considering buying another one and just take back my existing unit. |

I love the Stiletto. I live in Cincinnati. Strong signal here. I can sit my Stiletto on a window-sil, withOUT the headphone antenna plugged in to power, and set-up recordings for later. I will get a home kit later, but I do not want to pay $70 yet.
I only wish it could record wi-fi. |

Here is a question. Why can I pick up satellite with the ear buds?? I though you could only get the satellite feed with the antenna headphones? I've been in the gym with the earbuds listening to my mp3's and switched to satellite and picked it up better than with the headphones??
Even wi-fi? The ear buds? |

The Stiletto 10 and 100 have a built in satellite antenna. You do not have to use the headphone antenna to receive live satellite reception. I just use the headphone antenna to hold my hat on while running down the lake while fishing a tournament. |

Just some pluses about the Stiletto, I bought the dock and have the antenna run out the window and face the sky, reception is always perfect.
Set up repeating recordings of favorite stations, save the last 10 hour segments and you always have fresh music on each channel. Even the chaneles your wife likes, just so you have them.
Listen to these pre-recordings instead of live broadcasts, and skip through commercials and songs you don't want to hear, use the remote control in the dock when inside.
I run with it strapped to my wrist and listen to the pre-recordings, skipping through commercals.
I listen to Howard on the way to work, but that's only an hour, plus the ride home catches a different hour. But I like to pre-record Howard's show each day in case I want to skip through it at night for things I missed. I only save one recording to save space.
I think this is the greatest.
I've figured out how to get the recorded music onto my computer, simple, just need an audio capture/editing softward (and the Dock) I bought Roxio. |

You are probably in an area with strong terrestrial repeaters... Lucky you!
I love mine and use it walking the dog.. an attached to my home audio system that has speakers in every room. Use the external antenna- get yourself an IR repeater and you can hit it with the remote from anywhere in the house.
Stiletto rocks! and if I have a phone call... I just PAUSE Howard and come back to it after my call....

Work?? Work???
You are listening to an audio program broadcast from satellites that are between 15,000 miles and 29,000 miles above the earth- and you think taking it OUTSIDE or attaching an outside antenna is difficult?
Go back to terrestrial radio caveman!
This thing receives signal in a building with an external antenna- it receives signal in a building by connecting with a WIFI network, you can listen to previously recorded programs in a freaking submarine!
If you want to put music on it- you use the software that comes with the unit- you plug your Stiletto into your computer, and the SOFTWARE BEGINS.
This is amazing technology- ask the guy who programs your TV remote to help you with your Stiletto dummy! :D |

DOUCHE....
It's a satellite radio. It needs a clear view of the sky. (NO trees or roof)
If you want to use it indoors you must
1.) Hook up the home dock and antenna
2.) Set up a home wifi network and get your Stiletto configured for it.
Otherwise go outside away from the house, trees and obstructions. |
