TKR still won't resolve the rheumatoid arthritis problem -- it's the most severe form of arthritis, and it's also incurable. It slowly destroys the ligaments and the tendons in the joints, and eventually things become deformed (my wife's grandmother has that, and her hands are all twisted). I honestly can't afford to not work for any length of time -- we'd lose our house, so I just work through the pain. I have a lot of physical degenerative issues (neck, lower back) that I am seeing a chiropractor weekly for that at least helps me function on a weekly basis. The biggest thing that would help me would be if I could lose about forty pounds. Unfortunately, my job is not condusive for physical activity (FTE), so I just try to park in the far corner of the truck stops and walk as much as I can. |

Yeah... I honestly just don't think he's funny anymore... it seems as though everything he does as of late comes across as forced and not well thought out... it's a shame... but he is definitely only a couple steps away from joining his heroes... |

There are new medications out for RA that will slow down the progressive deterioration of the disease...my heart goes out to you and I sure do understand the impact health care costs can do to your ability to survive. I'm seriously thinking about selling my house and getting a smaller place. At least if I do that I can be a SFN supporter and get a 1% avatar.
Being that you are FTE, are you able to shift and clutch...get up and down out of the cab and do you have to load and unload? That alone would be a strain on your knees and hands. |

I only use the clutch to start and stop, so that's some help (I float the gears, and it's a straight 10 tranny). I don't touch freight at all, so that helps as well (my run is 100% drop/hook). Getting in and out of the truck does hurt a little, but I can deal with it.
Ain't no way we're losing our house (unless it's over my dead body). My wife and I worked hard to get it. As long as I'm still breathing, I'm working. I just will not allow my daughter to go without the things she needs (food on the table, clothes on her body, roof over her head). Thankfully I have good insurance (it better be good for as much as I pay for it weekly), so med costs are virtually nothing. Like I said before, the biggest help for me would be if my fat ass would lose forty pounds or so. Oh well, I've lived this long living like I have, so I may be doomed to outlive my grandchildren (assuming my daughter will have children when she gets married in fifteen years or so). I'm a fighter, just as you are. |

I partially agree with you. Artie admits he is over rated, and it is because he is on the show that he gets such good gigs.
I love Artie, don't get me wrong - he's good for some really great one liners on the show and his laugh is contagious - but.... I'm not a big fan of his stand up or his appearances on late night t.v shows. Some of it does sound forced, he relies on Howard fans "Fiyaa" to get a reaction, and it seems like he is really trying to talk slow to fill up time.
Most other comics, would have to talk really fast get eveything in to a show or an appearance.
And, he should never shave clean - really changes his look, the partial beard growth is a good look for him.
My favorite will always be Kinison.

Good question.
Maybe because Artie is a more likeable guy than Jackie was, people tend to root for him, and view him as a do gooder underdog type.
Jackie over promotes his ventures, I get a mass email every time he takes a good crap it seems.
Also, Howard's audience has now changed, his show gets a lot more respect and credibility from a lot more people than it used to. |

Also, even if Howard does infact have fewer listeners now, the ones he does have are mostly all very dedicated, really big fans, and behind a "revolution". They pay to listen.
Back on Terrestrial - they'd count everyone who just happened to turn him on for part of the day, or listened to him in an office. |
