Hi,
I've purchased a good roof antenna for my house and was hoping to get some tips/experiences from others who have also installed an antenna on the roof of their house.
In particular, I'd like to know what steps you took to ensure that no water would leak through your roof.
Thanks,
Scott |

| I ran mine through a window on onto the roof. I just notched a small groove into the window frame. A very simple 10 minute task. |

| silicone sealant around the screws and wire if run that down through the roof |

One more question:
I have purchased this antenna: http://www.tss-radio.com/outdoor-ho...enna-p-231.html
The instructions say to make sure the antenna pod is facing straight up, however, further on, the instructions say to make sure you have a clear view of the northwest or west (for my location.) This doesn't make sense. If I have to ensure the antenna pod facing straight up with no obstructions to the sky, then it shouldn't matter where in the country I live. |

| I have my indoor/outdoor antenna attached to the side of my house at the roof line. It's pointing straight up. Never loses signal. I didn't click on your link, but if it's the one I think it is, point it straight up. Get it in place and use your units antenna aiming function before final installation. |

| I put mine on my TV antenna and ran the wire next to the TV wire. |

I've never used my units antenna aiming function before. How does it work and how do I know I am aiming it correctly?
I have the XACT XTR1. |

| Not sure about that model, but on my Sportster it's one of the menu options. It shows the signal strength from the sat and terrestrial repeaters, if they are in your area. |

I bought the same antenna from Crutchfield. I live in Cecil Co, MD.
I took an awful long time (days) trying to find the best signal.
I have the arm pointing exactly due west.
I have the pod angled down very slightly.
I also purchased 2 inline amplifiers from Radio Shack.
My Stiletto, while in the house is always in the boombox.
I am never without 3 full bars on my Stiletto.
Also, my Sirius antenna is mounted on the arm of my satellite dish.
I'm not sure where Dresher is, but I think I've heard Glen Hurricane Schwartz mention it on the news, so it's gotta be near Philly.
I'm about 1 hour from Philly, so if you point the pod like mine, you'll be set. |

| I put my antenna on my roof, and then ran my wires with the wires my DirecTV dish. The dish guy already had a hole drilled, I stuck a screwdriver in it, made the hole bigger, shove my sirius wire in it, and then used clear caulk to make the hole watertight. |

There is a rubber casing that fits over the connection between the extension cable and the antenna cable. Not sure how weather/waterproof it is. I would say mount it out of direct contact with the elements if possible.

WELL, here's a comment from the TERK extension cable on Amazon that answers your question....

There is an amplifier at the outside end of this cable. The compartment totally filled up with water after a few rain storms. I get no signal at all because of water damage. I had the connector oriented correctly accourding to the instructions, but it still filled with water. The lid eventually fell off...
I'm going to buy another cable because I need it. This time, I will seal the amplifier box with silicon glue. You should do the same thing before it rains. |

| I went ahead and purchased this antenna and the 50 ' extension. I had someone place the antenna right near the peak of the roof, then drilled through the roof into the attic. I then ran the antenna through my "PVC Chase" down to the basement where I connected the 50' antenna (which is nice because the amplifier is inside the house), across the basement ceiling, then up into the first floor behind the wall. My first test was a failure. The tuner said there was no antenna connected. D'oh. I should have tested it first. Anyway, I took the tuner to the basement and tested it without the extension and it worked great! So the culprit was the 50' extension. TSS radio immediately sent me a new extension, and it worked fine. My house is high, and there are no obstructions of the sky above. I haven't had one problem yet. |

the antenna i have is using "coaxial" cables like that used by your cable co.
i think the in house wiring was too long cuz once connected to my bedroom from the CATV splitter..... my starmate display went dim and "acquiring signal". the antenna was getting a perfect signal cuz i connected it directly to the radio first as a test. any suggestions? |
