Straight from the floor at C.E.S. this could revolutionize the industry...

"The SiriusConnect SC-V1 Audio/Video Tuner is the first satellite tuner that not only receives Sirius audio, but also Sirius Backseat TV programming. Listen to Howard in the front, while the kids watch Spongebob in the back."

It would be awesome to get Howard TV, but w/ the money they're making having that OnDemand, it really doesnt seem that likely.

DODGE to offer Sirius Backseat Video in 2008 model year vehicles....

I want to hear Howard's comment on this and what will be offered via Sirius Video
DevilDog
Great. Now MORE people can ignore their kids in the car and let them be zombies in the car while watching babysitter TV, too. I fucking HATE video screens in cars. Very distracting on the road at night.

Would be better if Sirius would work on adding more signal repeaters first....
Scott114
Isn't Siobhan a backseat TV?
Mutt
this just made the newsletter, thanks
TheBlueprint
Nice!!! I wonder what type of content they're going to offer...

exxxcellent...sorry I'm a new subscriber

Fuckin awesome. Another reason they probably knew the Howard deal would pay off so well. Keep them in business to do this!!! They could bundle this service with the user base, HOWARD helped them grow. Very exciting stuff.
bababadnews
for the record.....

"Designed as a multi-zone univeral system, the kit includes the SC-V1 A/V Tuner module, a wired display control unit, wireless audio remote control, wireless video remote control, remote eye (for rear seat control), FM switching interface, two mini magnetic antennas, and removable mounting plates."

"The Sirius Connect A/V Tuner SC-V1 will be available at retail in Spring 2007, and will MSRP for $299.99."

ps - flat screens and installation will throw this baby way over $1000 for the whole package. I would imagine content will include stuff like ESPN, FOX news, Discovery Channel, stuff that is already on Sirius.

bababadnews
No comments on DODGE making it available for '08 models?
Jack the Hammer
Sounds pretty cool, too bad you can't watch the show live on TV as it's aired onto your Sirus Radio, but sounds like a way to get to listen to the show and not have the kids dropping in on it if ya get em the headphones!
bababadnews
shake it up....
nicksgt
christ what would it cost to have a set up like that?
TheJuice777
Very cool.

Way too fucking expensive, but very cool.
howies5incher

"As you can see from the screenshot up top the quality is pretty good, it's no HD but hey its only going to be on a 10-inch screen."

"Also since the service is aimed towards just the back seat riders, you will still be able to pull in radio for the front."

"Currently the only channel they have is Cartoon Network, and they only plan on getting 2 more before their launch in the Spring. Not exactly a killer lineup, but hey live TV is live TV."

"The connection kit comes with the control unit, A/V tuner, IR receiver, two antennae, an audio remote, and an oversized apple-like video remote for the back seat. It will cost $20/month for the service, and the kit will set you back $299."

From an article quoting Sirius Mel Karmazin last month, the service is primarily geared towards children in the car. This, along with the fact that the only channel online so far is Cartoon Network, I wonder where this is going?!
bababadnews
"According to sources, Sirius Backseat TV will be offered for approximately $6.99/month. This is a separate subscription from the regular Sirius Satellite Radio subscription."

"These sources also claim that three channels will be made available for the service - all targeting children. While no details on the source of the content, Sirius was showing Cartoon Network programming at CES."
boombox
They've said many times that the programming will be for children, 2 or 3 channels max.
sternowitz
This might save very well save the company, but if it only has 2 or 3 channels max, it probably won't be worth the investment.

If people can use it to shut their kids up, they might think it's worth every penny!

no shit..get the NFL & NASCAR alone on there and it would be huge for tailgaters and what not
adam
No wonder they're spending HUGE money launching their new geo-stationary SAT in '08.
It will have at least 10x's more transmission power than the three units that are up now.

They'll need the added data bandwidth and power for better coverage.

Maybe they can even restore the older but higher music channel bit-rate for better sound that they started with before they added the additional channels.

I'm sure some of you have noticed (you're deaf if you haven't) that the Internet stream for music is far superior to the SAT stream in sound quality. The encoding bit-rate is higher.
