I read this article on MMAweekly.com regarding Couture fighting Sylvia in UFC 68....
Is anyone surprised that Couture can't keep himself retired? I'm not...
Is anyone surprised that Couture is moving back up to Heavyweight? He couldn't beat Liddell so I'm not....
Is anyone surprised that Couture immediately gets a shot at the title? He doesn't deserve it, but I'm not surprised....
I wish some of these guys could learn their lesson and just stay retired.... Ken is still fighting in Oakland with his brother in some 'rival camp' fight... and Couture can't wait to jump back into the octagon to prove once again he's too old and too tired to hang with the big guys.
I think Sylvia has been a lack-luster champion since he got the title.... and Couture is right up his alley, he'd rather wrestle people for his championship rather than risk the chance of getting knocked out.... so this will be to Sylvia's advantage the longer the fight goes... Couture's only hope is to finish Sylvia early with a submission or throw a lucky punch.
I think this is going to be another 'snore-fest' brought to you by Dana White |

| i bet that if you put cro cop in a ring with both sylvia and couture, he could kick the shit out of both of them at the same time. |

couture is to old really to do anything in the ring
so with the payout of chuck and tito got, maybe that is bring him back |

The guy is paid enough to retire if he wants to... which means he's come back to the UFC for one or both of the following reasons:
A) He's greedy, and he really wants the big 'purse' which I'm not sure he's going to get with a Sylvia/Couture fight anyway, unless he WINS, in which case he might get a better purse for defending...
B) The guy honestly thinks he can STILL fight in MMA and that he has a chance with the younger guys....
I'm not sure which reason is more dangerous... but if he's doing it for both reasons, I think he's lost his mind. |

| I think the only reason Randy is coming back so soon after retiring is he's a competitor and he lives for it, and isn't getting much outta just training others. Similar to Michael Jordan he couldn't take not playing and being competative, I don't think money or pride are an issue here for Randy he's already rich as fuck and in the Hall of Fame. He's just one fierce competitor who lives for the battle of being in the Octagon! |

Well, I like the guy, he's kind of the 'all american hero' of the UFC.... but I think he's losing his mind.... Do you think he can still hang? |

| You are losing your mind. Couture....... right up his (Sylvia) alley being lackluster, afraid to get knocked out, doesn't deserve a title shot? Get the fuck outta here. Without a doubt he deserves a title shot. If Sylvia tries to "wrestle" or be lackluster against Randy there will be a new champ. The third fight between Randy and Chuck..... Randy slipped and then he got caught. Until that moment he was competetive. He wasn't winning by any stretch but he hung in with Liddell better than dudes half his age. He is a champ and deserves some respect. I think he has a chance against Sylvia. Of course, Crocop would retire him for good. |

I think you mis-read my post... and it's my fault because I used improper punctuation. I wasn't trying to say Couture was lackluster... I was trying to say SYLVIA is... and Couture is up his alley because Sylvia doesn't want to stand up, because he doesn't want to get knocked out, so Couture is perfect because he is a wrestler, which is how Sylvia prefers to defend his title... without the stand-up.... |

When I first heard about the fight, I thought Randy was making a bad mistake. Then I thought about the Timmy! vs. Monson fight. I think Randy can give him a decent fight. If Sylvia comes out like he did in his last fight, Randy will be able to capitalize on it. Randy has been doing submission only fighting lately.
If the odds are so stacked on Sylvia, you could make some real money on Randy. From a bettors perspective, it's not a bad fight if you like the underdog. I went big on Jardin in the last UFC and it worked out. I'm getting the same feeling for this one. |

Another subpar MMA thread started by Halcyon...
When did it become "greedy" to want to do what you love for money? Go move to France if that offends you.
Randy doesn't have much of a shot against Tim, but it's certainly more entertaining than watching Sylvia fight another glorified Toughman Competition HW until Cro Cop or Herring get shots at the strap. And the bottom line is that the bout will sell ppv's.
Since when does Sylvia not prefer to stand up? |

In his defense, it could have been worse... It could have been another "Diego Sanchez is the greatest fighter ever" thread. |

I think he can hang with the Majority of the LHW's Chuck and Rampage might fuck him up bad but other then that the LHW I'd give him the go.
As far as heavy weights go Arlovski, Vera, Cro Cop, even Silvia being awkward will give him problems, but the guys an elite athlete I think he would still battle for a year or 2 being he's given the right matchups!
I think Randy vs. Tito might be a good one to see here but looks like Randy's set on HW, if thats the case it may be only 2 fights as Cro Cop will most likely get the next title shot and he'll destroy Randy or Tim |

| for me it's like the rumored lindland vs fedor match, I don't really give lindland or randy much of a chance but I'm more interested to see how they fare than the other alternatives.. at least you know with lindland or randy, they have the potential to provide for some very competitive and anxious moments, which is a lot considering what other opponents bring to the table... |

Shamrock never had it, Randy was on top of the game for a long time bro, he'll be just fine for another year or 2! |

Randy is coming back purely for a payday. Dana White and his cronies have finally figured out how to cash in. They have taken the boxing approach and are selling rematches, and hasbeen fighters(hence you get a more well known ufc fighter coming out of retirement not in his prime) Same thing happened with that whole Shamrock Ortiz fiasco, and bringing Gracie back. White knew those fights would sell, and also knew that by Tito winning those sham fights would build up hype so the general public would believe that Ortiz/Lidell would be the "ultimate ufc showdown" Fans who have followed the sport knew that Ortiz was no match for Lidell, and that it would be a one sided fight(which it was) Also due to the success of the reality shows you get frauds like Forrest Griffith who are in the ufc purely because of the reality show. They are names that are known and sell tickets. Leben, and Bonner get worked, so what? People want to see these chumps continue to fight because they followed them around on that reality show.
The ufc is no longer about who is the best fighter(as it used to be) It is about what will extract the most amount of money from ppv buyers. This is why fighters such as Rampage, cro crop and wont last long in the ufc. The average fan has no time to look at the histories of these fighters and understand the level of talent they have. So they will fight this year and be thrown to the backburner for a Ortiz/Lidell #3.
Also notice the whole call out thing that happens after every major fight? What is this becoming the wwe? C'mon now!
The ufc is becoming what boxing is, and will end up where wwe is currently at. |

i agree with some of what borat says, i dont think bonner and leben are great talents. but forrest griffin has been in MMA for a long time, long before UFC made him famous. griffin had fought severn, monson and jeremy horn in other MMA events before he was on the reality show.
but regardless of his history, getting pounded by keith jardine doesnt help his future. |

I agree. Shamrock is probably the most hyped fighter in the history of MMA. Read the book "No Holds Barred" by Clyde Gentry. Shamrock has ducked more fights and faked injury more than any other fighter.
Fuck Randy, bring back FRED ETTISH
