The search for the Steelers new head coach appears to be over. According to reports from SportsIllustrated.com, Steelers team officials will name Mike Tomlin the team’s new head coach later today or on Sunday.

I wonder how Pittsburgh will handle a black coach.

I hope no one makes race an issue.

Dam from Relied pitcher to head NFL coach, i've never seen no shit like that

I thought they would hire Grimm their o-line coach, but I guess not. Tomlin did a nice job with the Vikings last year on defense and it will interesting if he can turn the Steelers back to a super bowl contender.

A report on Sports Illustrated's Web site, SI.com, on Saturday indicated that Tomlin had been chosen as the successor to Cowher, but the Vikings' defensive coordinator told ESPN's Chris Mortensen that no decision had been made.

Sources also told ESPN.com's John Clayton that the report was incorrect, and the Steelers are not expected to make a decision Saturday.

ummmm not quite yet sonny....try not jumping the gun. Although Tomlin is one of the top contenders they are not going to discount Russ Grimm and they are also looking at Ron Rivera but he has been a little tied up what with that little ole NFC championship game today.

By Wednesday we should know.

Despite Tomlin reports, Steelers say coaching search not completed:

Russ Grimm has been offered and has accepted the Steelers' head coaching position, a source in Pittsburgh confirmed late Saturday.

Grimm, 47, succeeds Bill Cowher, who coached the Steelers for 15 seasons before resigning Jan. 5. The hiring of Grimm will be announced Monday at a news conference.

ESPN and SI.com, Sports Illustrated's Web site, reported yesterday that Minnesota Vikings defensive coordinator Mike Tomlin had been chosen to replace Cowher.

An NFL source confirmed yesterday that Tomlin had not heard from the Steelers and no contract negotiations had taken place.

I saw Mort Anderson 20 minutes ago sticking to his story and touting his source despite reports that Tomlin wasn't the guy. That's funny if your story ends up being true.

What is going on? What's next? Tomlin and Grimm are both the head coaches for the Pittsburgh Steelers.

I think the cat's out of the bag now .. but will he install a 4-3 or utilize the personnel he has and stick with the 3-4 ...

Pink, yellow, purple..whatever as long as he wins people in Pittsburgh will be fine....

What scares me is getting rid of all the old coaching staff noww..mass change is not what this team needed....

They have had the 3-4 in place the last couple of years and it has worked out well for them. They should keep it a 3-4 defense as their players suit that type of defense well.

Agreed. Big concern for me. No way is Grimm going to stay after being passed over.

Tomlin fits that "Cowher Mold" the Rooney's wantd.....young, former player, strong defense background, assertive.....we'll see how it goes. Gonna be hard to adjust to anyone after having the same coach for 15 years.

The Cardinals just hired Grimm as their assistant coach so he is with Whisenhunt in Arizona. The Steelers are losing alot of their coaches.

Yeah I saw that. He works well with Whisenhunt so it will be a good coaching team. I am sure their first goal is to work with Leinart and pick up that offense.
