just an FYI... one of the sharpest guys I know in picking boxing is playing the under on the teddy reid vs richard gutierrez fight friday night... both guys got explosive KO tendencies for welterweights and have been through some wars... reid is coming off a BRUTAL beating from verno phillips and many think he should have retired after that (12 TKO with all the earmarkings of a fight whose reached the end of the road)... on paper fight looks like the makings of a war and stepping stone for gutierrez...

I'm in for +225 on the under... just thought I'd pass it along as I've been eying this fight and when I saw my man hitting it, figured it was the the right play...

good luck...

fight will be on ESPN2 friday night...

nedmark61

Take BYU minus 1.5 tommorow in collegebaskets unranked team favored over ranked team in conference games 14-2 on the year so far. Just a little tip if any of you guys bet college baskets

YOU ARE THE MAN! That was some easy money tonight. Many many props to you and your boy. Keep us informed with these locks. I am going to be dying for any type of winner on the Mosley fight. I am going with about 9 other people to the fight and we need a winner :-)

Anyway, thanks again and keep em coming!

too bad this fuckin thread wasnt alittle more noticable...picked it up after the fight...

pavlik has put up a great record but I'm not sold... love his bodywork and combos but don't think he has the defense or speed to go top tier... been dropped once in his last two fights and beyond mckart, hasn't fought anyone to brag about...

chalk is way too high to bet on pavlik (-601)... I was actually thinking about the +541 on zertuche... my play will probably be the over and a small stab at zertuche... I give zertuche enough durability for the over and enough maturity for a late win but it's just a one unit "live dawg" play...

pavlik has had a bitch of a time securing a title shot and knows he has to be impressive on HBO... its his chance to score a spectacular stoppage and get the fans clamoring for him, which I wouldn't be surprised if he did, but at 24 and 6'3" still squeezing into a middleweight's body, could spell trouble...

nothign against your boy, I'd actually like to see him do well and get a shot but I'm just not sold yet....

Bazooka, keep this boxing advice coming.

I love winners!!

true......and i have a rule in betting boxing and that is always bet the dog....especially at +540..... i honestly don't know enough about the guy that the ghost is fighting to lay cash down on a -600 bet......i'd like 2 see the ghost bang it out with that overrated sergio mora.........i think that would be a great fight.....u think thats a good matchup??
bazookahead
doubt anyone gets this in time, but oddessa is playing the under in the arce fight.. he also took Z at +550 and the under in the Z vs pavlik fight..

good luck... will try and log in after the fights...

I got the under in arce, Z at +541 and the over in the Z vs pavlik bout....it's rare I successfully pick against odd, so the under might be the better play in the Z fight...

vodka straight up, thank yuuu!

Yeah ... I completely agree ... defense and handspeed isn't at that "highest" level ... defense must get tighter, especially against the counter of a top level MiddleW ...

That said, I admit that I didn't see him before tonight ...

I like that he's a nice humble fighter ... and that he's patient to work off his jab ...

I'll definitely root for him.

But I really think a fight like Miranda is dangerous for him without a tighter defense ...

****************************

I'm definitely into seeing Darchiniyan v. Arce ...

I really like both these guys a whole lot ...

and I may be leaning a little toward Vic ...

Any opinions ???

(sorry for the derail ...)

I like pav a lot... he's got a great personality without going for something "marketable"... saying that, I think he has zero chance at a top tier win... he's a gatti versus a pbf... just doesn't have the tools to beat a taylor, wright, ouma or abrhams...

the dawg was VERY live in the first 3-4 rounds... pav fought through it and dominated... missed the over by a round... happens... but the first half of the fight was not -601/+541 and I can live with that play... sorry for all that bet on it.. we'll come back strong..

I'm watchin' the replay now ...

Pavlik's execution with his left hand is so much better than his right ... he does have a world class left hand/jab ...

BUT ... I see that he drops his left hand noticeably when he throws his right; he leaves himself vulnerable ... moreover, his right hand is nowhere near the level of the top middleW's ...

Taylor or Miranda have awesome power behind their right hands ... and a clear difference in the level when compared to Pavlik ...
bazookahead
agree, jash...

if pav was more physically talented, he'd be a force... but his activity is actually going to work against him when facing the champs... he's not an explosive puncher.. he grinds guy's down with great combos and constant pressure, leading to a KO/TKO... this works incredibly well against the mob but when going against the royalty, it's just more opportunities for them to counter with minimal risks... can't imagine what a winky wright would do countering this guy..

I see him getting stopped against any top 5 middles.. hate to compare him to stereotypical whities, but I see gatti and pazienza in him... incredible aggression and endurance sapping power, but when facing the highly talented champ, no threat..

I think the odds of him against a champ will confirm what I'm guessing... I'd expect him to be a 3-1 or 4-1 dog... at least that's my number... anything less and I'm going black market with my organs should I lose...
nedmark61
my boy has some pop in his hands though......can't say that about a lot of the middle weights besides taylor of course......and maybe miranda, but with miranda i havn't really seen him except that lopsided win last december......but one thing about Pavlik was that straight right hand......that fucker was surgical with it......now i understand the guy he was fighting was not the best trained or had the greatest defense, but he did have a chin and was not a tomato can..........and i tell ya what he put that fucker to sleep while he was standing, which u don't see much at middle weight anymore......i personally would LOVE to see him knock out that overrated Sergio Mora, even though that might be a step down in competition towards the belt, but it would give him that press he deserves........but i have to say, and im sure all will agree that it its Taylor and everyone else.......Taylor has the oppurtunity to be something real special and one of the greatest middleweights of all time
nedmark61
on a side note.....i really enjoyed that arce fight........i thought that little argentinian had something going with the rope a dope........he lasted a long time, did wear arce down a lil and if he'd had a little more pop he coulda stole it.......arce is a bad fucker though, and it was entertaining for a 115lb fight!!!!

Yeah ... I really think that Ler was well advised to fight the way he fought ... despite the "boos" ... he did some things to frustrate Arce - who is, in my opinion, a world's best in that division ...

Frankly, Ler didn't have the tools to match up in any other way ...

Comparing Ler to Winky Wright is kinda shallow - Wright has amazing variety from a defensive posture and can do it anywhere in the ring ... Ler seemed to rely on a rhythm and timing to hit and get out ...

I'm not down on Pavlik - I REALLY like his blue collar attitude and respect ... and I feel that his left hand IS world class ... I tried to compare his left to Oscar's but my gut tells me that Kelly won't use it for KO power like Oscar can ...

I watched Kelly's right hand and I worry about its effectiveness against a high quality, moving target ... I really feel that his left stunned Zertuche frozen and the right hand KO came from 6 rounds of brilliant left hand/lead/jab work ...

Pav- seems to have lapses where he exposes himself to his opponent's right hand ...
Even against a SP, I think of Pavlik against a guy like Calzaghe and I still worry about Kelly's chances in a fight like that ...

I like him and will keep an eye out for his upcoming stuff ... no doubt ...

Is there a boxing thread around here?

I paged through a bit with no luck ...

I wouldn't mind seeing how you guys feel about Darchinyan but don't want to derail here ...

and I would like to see your opinions on Mosley ... I don't know the upcoming matchup well enough ...
nedmark61
nah theres not a boxing thread on here.......but there are some guys who do know their shit on here about boxing.....boxrec.com is a cool site i check a lot of my shit on there.....

No odds but I've been checking around here and there ...

A lot of peeps seem to think Collazzo has the ability to hang around for a Mosley UD or maybe a late TKO; all overwhelmingly favor Mosley ... just not by a walkover ... due in part to the drop in weight class ...

I haven't been able to find a matchup analysis tho' ... which is what I'm really looking for ...
