Tailgating Forbidden On Super Bowl Sunday

(CBS4)
MIAMI Die-hard football fans attending the Super Bowl game at Dolphin Stadium are getting a rude awakening after finding out that no tailgating of any type will be allowed within a one mile radius on game day.

"There is no tailgating allowed in the Dolphin Stadium parking lots," Sue Jaquez, a member of the Super Bowl XLI Host Committee, confirmed on Tuesday. "And there is no tailgating anywhere within a one-mile radius of the stadium." "And there are no RVs allowed."

Tailgating is permitted during regular- and post-season games for Dolphins fans, a team official on Tuesday said it would indeed be allowed at the Super Bowl. According to Jaquez, however, the official has been seriously misinformed.

The Dolphins do not organize and oversee the Super Bowl, Jaquez pointed out. Instead, those duties are left up to NFL officials. And because of security reasons, no pre-game partying on (or very near) the premises will take place. Fans spotted tailgating could face charges, Jaquez said.

"This is part of the NFL, not the Dolphins," Jaquez said. "If the Dolphins are saying there's tailgating -- or think it's going to be allowed -- then they need to contact the NFL."

Detective Nelda Fonticella of the Miami-Dade Police department confirmed the Super Bowl rules.

The rules put in force by the NFL prohibit grilling or consuming alcohol within on Dolphins Stadium grounds.

People "will be warned and asked to pick up their things and leave," Fonticella said. "We're trying to make this a pleasant experience for everyone, and there will be plenty to do in the week leading up to the game."

There is no law prohibiting tailgating outside of the stadium property.

What the fuck could be better then tanning and cooking some dogs and burgers in the sun and fun of the Miami area?

The Super-Bowl is just corporate jones anymore and they don't want to expose any hillbilly shit going down anymore to the rich bastards who attend the Super Bowl. The NFL will probably regret there decision when college football and Nascar take over it in popularity in the next 5-10 years.

i went down to miami for the superbowl the last time it was there, in 99, and there was so much drinking and partying the days before, the last thing i wanted to do on super sunday was drink another beer...though no tailgating is bullshit

I'd never pay for a ticket to the Super Bowl- too many sponsors trying to cash in on the game at the venue. I'd rather go to Vegas for Super Bowl weekend, and really tale gate and gamble.

If NASCAR ever takes over football in popularity then the terrorists have truly won.

It really is just a corporate event. Soon, ticket prices will be so astronomical, the common layman won't be able to attend w/out a mortgage.

They can ban what ever the fuck they want. That won't do a thing to stop the 50,000 fans.

Great idea. It should be a family event nice enough for kids. The problem is the loud mouth drunks who drink, act like idiots and cause problems. If you cant go to a sporting event without drinking your probably a sick alcoholic and need therapy. Do the good people a favor and stay home and get treatment

NOT only are they not allowing tailgating. But no fucking RV'S????????? WHO THE FUCK MADE THAT DECISION??? You know how many people are fucked now??? So this is a security concern??

let me just say, the terrorists are winning then. Because if people decide to ban stupid shit like this, it's starting to feel like another country.

Fans don't go into the stadiums to watch the Superbowl anymore. It's these phoney corporate big wigs & their families who go just so they can brag to their friends that they've been to a Superbowl. It makes me sick I tell ya. :ranting:

SUPERBOWL, is for the fake fans not us hardcore fans, that's why they don't allow it. and if they did you wouldn't have any money left to buy meat and beer after spending 2 or 3 g's on a tix.
