Schilling says he'll pitch in 2008 season
Associated Press
Posted: 2 hours ago
BOSTON (AP) - Curt Schilling said Monday he will not retire at the end of the 2007 season as previously indicated and plans to pitch for the Boston Red Sox in 2008.
The 40-year-old Schilling made his comments on WEEI-AM radio and confirmed them to The Associated Press.
The right-hander's contract with the Red Sox ends after the 2007 season, but he said he was in discussions for an extension. If he can't work out a deal in Boston, he will pitch for another team - but not the New York Yankees.
"I'm in discussions with the Red Sox, we had talked last week and there's a lot going on obviously right now, but where I'm going to play beyond 2007 ... I hope it's Boston," he told the radio station. "This is where I want to play and in the days leading up to spring training we'll figure it out one way or the other. If I go into this season without a contract from the Red Sox then I will go out and find a home for 2008."
Schilling told the station he decided to play beyond the 2007 season after discussions with his family.
Schilling was 15-7 with a 3.97 ERA last season, striking out 183 and walking 28 in 204 innings.
He is 207-138 with a 3.44 ERA in a 19-year career with stops in Baltimore, Houston, Philadelphia, Arizona and Boston, where he has played the last three seasons.
Schilling, 21-6 in 2004, had a detached tendon in his right ankle temporarily sutured into place so he could pitch in the playoffs, helping the Red Sox win their first World Series since 1918. The ankle was surgically repaired after the season. |

if his goal is to have a 8ERA then Philly is the place for him. No respectable pitcher will ever go to Philly with the ballpark. |

I know that. But Schilling wanted to come back to Philly before he went to the Red Sox. His family really liked Philly and I think still own a home in the suburbs. Plus I think Schilling's ego tells him that he wants to be the guy that can put a team back into the playoffs and maybe even the World Series. Now before you jump down my throat, I don't think he can do that for the Phillies. |

Schilling is a bullshit artist, just like Clemens. If I do recall correctly, before the Sox acquired him, he was in talks with the Yankees as well about a trade there.
I would guess the reason he would not want to be a Yankee is because A-Rod is there, and Schilling has run his mouth about A-Rod in the past.
All things being equal, and subtracting A-Rod from the equation, if Schilling was offered $100K more to join the Yankees, he would do so in a heartbeat. |

I think Jeter and Gay Rod had words in the past before Gay Rod joined the team(something about an SI article rings a bell). I dont think talking shit about a guy means you cant play with them. As you said, it is all about the $$ nothing else. |

Two words that prove it's all about the money, after having said he'd never, EVER play for the NYY..... "Johnny Damon"
Schill's old school though. If he says something, he means it. You'll never see this class act in pinstripes. |

Schilling has no class, he is a clubhouse cancer, that is well known. And Curt shot his mouth off about MLB shooting roids galore but when he got in front of Congress,. he showed what a pussy he was by backtracking at the hearing from his earlier claims of rampant steroid use in baseball.
Look what was on Wikepdia:
Schilling has been vocal in his criticism of management, opposing players, and, on occasion, his teammates. During a game as a Diamondback in 2001, he destroyed a camera with a bat because he disagreed with their intended purpose (evaluating umpires.) When Red Sox relief pitcher Scott Williamson began to experience arm pain mid-way through the 2004 season, Schilling reportedly told Williamson to stop "acting." Williamson then lost the remainder of the season to reconstructive arm surgery. While with the Phillies, Schilling was a vocal critic of team management, stopping just short of calling the front office incompetent. He was called to Capitol Hill to testify about steroid use in March of 2005, not as a suspected user but rather as a vocal opponent. However, many were disappointed as he equivocated on his position. Later, he supported having Rafael Palmeiro's stats erased from the record books. He has also been known to call Boston radio stations to give his opinion.
Schilling campaigned for President George W. Bush in 2004, while the ownership of the Red Sox campaigned for the challenger, Senator John F. Kerry.
Besides his crying all the time and facial expressions when his pen BLOWS his lead, this guy lacks CLASS son...
And why would the Yanks want Schilling in 2008, do you guys realize who is a free agent in 2008? YES BABY!!! |

I agree with that statement, KOAW. I'm just saying that it's probably Schilling's problem. If he ever did sign with the Yanks, he would be revealed as the total douche he is to the rest of the nation, not just the nation outside of Boston, for going back on his word. |

Add in the fact that he couldn't handle NYC and he would be a BUST...Fact is, next year there will be some major arms available. I think Cashman feels he will win the AL East this year and maybe get to and win the World Series this year, but next off season he will go out and get a stud or two for their rotation.. |
