Wouldnt that be a a good business move in terms of adding ten or more games to the season ?

No.

The greatest commodity the league has (besides its TV contracts) is its players. The more games played, the greater the chance more players get hurt. In fact, there's a been a growing amount of suppoprt in recent years to reduce the number of preseason games to keep players healthy for the season.

And now, there's a growing outcry for the league to take a look at its pension plan and give the players of the past who helped build the league to what it is today a little more money (because God knows it has the money) to help them get through a lot of the pysical difficulties they have suffered in later years.

With the NFL being assholes in fighting these payouts, I don't think they'd take the chance to extend the season by 10 games because the risk of the league being on the hook for more injury and disability payments is too great.

What the league should do is move the season starting date ahead two weeks, in mid-September, so the Super Bowl can be played the day before President's Day, ensuring a seamless transition to spring training.

huh? Do you know what a beat down their bodies take during 16 games? plus 4 more preseason and practices??

The players union would never let it fly anyway.

Ther really isn't an offseason for the coaches, with free angecy starting in 2 weeks, the draft in April, mini camps thrown in, and training camp in July...more games would be impossible.

Great idea. They should play 162 games a year, just like baseball.

They should cut 2 preseason games and add 2 more regualr season games

They have the perfect set up .... the value of the league, aside from the players (discussed above) is the scarcity of the product. If you saturate the market the value goes down. If anything, I would scale back preseason by 1 game and get the SB back to the last week in Jan.

ding ding ding we have a WINNAH!!!

16 games is enough. I would rather get to the postseason quickier than wait 2 weeks for regular season games that probably won't mean anything with teams already clinchling playoff spots.

Yep, the first and last games of preseason, the regular starters don't play anyway. It's a ripoff for fans.

The short season is fine. Baseball, basketball, hockey you have a 5 to 6 game skid it don't mean shit when u play 82 or 162 games. In the NFL 4 str8 losses is a month of loosing and basically (unless ur in the NFC) season over. I like the thought of getting rid of 4 preseason games cutting it to 2 and then add the other 2 to the regular season.

You never played football have you?

If your going to extend the season then the NFL needs to expand the rosters of each team from 53 to maybe 75 players. Also 2 byes for each team. The thing I loved about the USFL was that had 18 games for the season. The NFL season has gone from 12 games to 14 games to now 16 games so I think eventually it will go to 18 games

Barely enough players make it through the season uninjured as it is.

However, the new commissioner knows where Gene Upshaw's leash is, so they could put anything over on the players they wanted.

With 17 weeks of games, and the Thursday night games, there are more and more games on TV each year, which is the direction they are going. Also, 16 regular season games and 32 teams just works out perfect. I think it would be more likely they would add another bye week for 18 weeks of football on TV, but still only 16 games.
sorabji_66
sorry, your lousy team won't make the playoffs even if they have another 2 more weeks of regular season to suck.

These steroid fucked idiots are all going to die when they are 45 yrs. old on a 16 game schedule. They can barely make it through a season now. How long would they last if the season is extended 3 months?
cruz1785
The NFL setup is perfect just like MLB is perfect. If they played more games there wouldn't be anyone left by the end of the year.

that would be doable. Actually adding more games though than the number they play now is death. It's hard enough on their bodies and the quality on the field would go down even farther than it has the last 10-15 years or so.

the talent pool is thin enough as it is. If you add another 20+ players you will get some real shit play on the field.

They don't want to see JD starting at WR for the Giants.

Why dont you just watch a fucking college basketball game or go jerk off. I think the NFL structure is fine as it is. I think they should reduce number of preseason games and keep the number of regular season games. We would get better quality play because guys will be more fresh.

The NFL should never fuck with their season. The great thing about the 16 game schedule is the importance on each and every game. Not like in Basketball, baseball and Hockey where you can go on losing streaks and still make the playoffs. Not so in the NFL...they have the best regular season in sports as it is...no need to add more games and water it down.
Jack the Hammer
The NFL has the best formula for it's season out of all the professional sports around. It has just the perfect amount of games a great Playoff format, and it's just away long enough to make you die for it come August. Only flaw is the Pro Bowl a totally worthless game for players at this level to chance playing in and getting injured, it should just be gone with the rules and all it's worthless game and the rules in the Pro Bowl suck anyways! But the season's long enough as it is in terms of wear and tear on these guys bodies nothing like baseball or basketball or hockey there guys are the superior athletes of all sports!

most of these fuckers barely live past 60 and you want them to endure a longer season?

They get reg season prices in preseason amnd don't give the players reg season gamechecks. It makes no sense for them to add 2 reg season games and take away 2 preseason b/c they'd have to pay players more so they'll take a hit on the change.
