On February 14, 2007 during a radio interview in Miami, Hardaway admitted to hating gay people. On the 790 the Ticket radio show, Hardaway was questioned by host Dan Le Batard on how he would deal with a gay teammate. Hardaway responded, "First of all I wouldn’t want him on my team. Second of all, if he was on my team I would really distance myself from him because I don’t think that’s right and I don’t think he should be in the locker room when we’re in the locker room." Le Batard identified Hardaway's comments as homophobic and bigoted, to which Hardaway responded, "Well, you know, I hate gay people. I let it be known I don’t like gay people. I don’t like to be around gay people. I’m homophobic. It shouldn’t be in the world, in the United States, I don’t like it."

Le Batard and Hardaway were discussing retired English basketball player, John Amaechi, who recently announced that he is homosexual.

"the killer crossover"
timdawg6
No shit, but he should be somewhere in Miami getting even fatter
RLM6370
Timmy is very stupid man. First of all he's the owner of several business down here and we have a large gay community down here so I see a boycott in Timmy's future
RLM6370
Of course ESPN is going to push this story down our throats. First they published John Amaechi's book and Dan LeBatard writes for ESPN magazine and is a regular on their shows. So if we can blame anyone is the evil four letter network
mobsmith
Well Tim Hardaway wont be getting any tv gigs as an announcer or anything else like that in the future, however he was terrible on NBA today thats why ESPN canned his ass.
timdawg6
Hey your right, Im beginig to hate ESPN More and more. They have the worst top ten plays every night. You know what show is pretty good, is that shit on foxsportsnet the rundown or some shit, they actually give you highlights
Busches04
ESPN is a bunch of fucking cocksmokers. They thinkt hey're a reputable news source now. They should play highlights and give scores and just SHUT THE FUCK UP!

As for Tim Hardaway, what th efuck has he done in the last 10 years? he should just keep his stupid mouth shut. He doesn't like gayi people huh? i'm sure he's one of those blacks that bitch about "the white man"keeping him down and that he deserves reperations for slavery. What a prick !
Saul Hudson
He should apologize with a statement saying "I love faggots." This story is definitely going to get crammed down our throats, he'll give a phony apology, and then he'll enter sensitivity training or rehab or something.

He already gave the phony apology on a local newscast down here. He's in Vegas for the All Star weekend so I guess we'll be see him interviewed alot this weekend

Wow that was not smart Timmmy, especially living in Miami. Man I used to really like him when he was part of Run TMC with the Warriors. Timmy, Chris Mullin, and Mitch richmond.

Not too bright

you're an idiot, I'm sure he has no gripe about that, he did play in the NBA asshole, I don't think he has money problems
sorabji_66

Correction: Where the locker room was.

The feelings in this country and changing drastically day-by-day. LeBron showed the tolerance of tomorrow.

And no, not gay. Just don't understand what teh big fucking deal is. It's the same as if some ugly chick is hitting on you. Ignore it, move on.

He is an idiot...but at least he's honest about it

I always believe that those who make such remarks....are most likely in the closet themselves
sorabji_66
i just don't understand people who worry about the thoughts of people that have nothing to do with them, and that they'll never ever meet.
Stevie4Stern
thats why I hate the Knicks

WGAS what Tim Hardaway thinks, although he is to be commended for revealing his true thoughts.

Cojones, folks. Something a lot of athletes, let alone people, don't have in these PC days.

Question: Is it better to be a closet gay-hater or out-in-the-open one?

Good point. You have nothing to do with me, and I'll never meet you. Your opinion is moot.

Out in the open. I'd rather be looking forward than over my shoulder, waiting for the knife.

Don't flatter yourself. Several responses in one thread to your inanity does not equal an Obsession.

Cojones, my ass. It doesn't take courage to be ignorant and Hardaway isn't to be commended for being an ignoramus. Bottom line is it is wrong in our society to hate people just because they are different than you. Some people think our society is too PC and people with these types of views should be allowed to voice their racist and bigoted opinions without being maligned. But why would that be so great? Do you want the people you work with to be openly discussing their hated for gays, niggers, jews, or whatever all day long? Gee, what a great work environment that would be. Do you want to listen to the clerk at the store down the street lecture you about how much they hate women? I doubt it. It'd be a pretty miserable world if everybody voiced their stupid biases and opinions all day long without any fear of the consequences.

Any responsible person in society had better make an effort to deal with their hatred and biases, and at the least they should keep a lid on it, because they're not going to have a comfortable time if they let it loose publicly. And that goes double for a public figure in the spotlight. Hardaway is an idiot. Now he can worry about every gay waiter that waits on him spitting in his food for the rest of his life, let alone getting a job commentating or working a TV gig. A lot of good having "cojones" is going to do him. I'm sure he's just thrilled that he spoke his mind.

I agree w/ Hugo.

Besides, Fags have Faghags, who are usually very hot. If you're not in the closet, you'd love the hook up.

I agrree...he spoke how he felt but he was a little over the top.:dontknow:

I don't hate fags...could give a fuck less what they do in their privacy, the flamers are good for a laugh and they leave more hot single women for me.:jerk:

I just find the act itself repulsive!:puke:
otherone4life
I think this goes to show that just b/c you know how to dribble a basketball does not make you qualified to opine on social issues.
tommyp
Touche Hugo...

I still think it takes a lot of balls to come out and say stuff like that. If he didn't realize he would ostracize himself from the rest of society, then I would just call him plain stupid.
Pussah2
His first statement made him sound like an ignorant asshole.

The I hate gay people tore him a new asshole and is the reason he is getting the heat he is.
elricsi
I would much rather that people said what they really think like Timmy, than act all PC when they are actually full of crap.

I am just curious why these players are so worried about gay dudes seeing their junk, since there are female reporters that see it all the time and don't bang them either (unless you are Derek Lowe.)

Anyway, nobody is going to catch gayness from being near a gay person, and eventually people will learn that.
Billyfromsphily
The most upseting thing is that John Amaechi played Basketball at Penn State, Now when did they get a program?
thoroldjames
I liked picking Hardaway in NBA JAM back in the day.

That's all I have to add.
chief129
Tim Hardway: another ignorant homophobic millionare!
stewy069
Who gives a shit if he likes fags or not?!?! He gave an honest answer to a question. We don't have to like his answer. He could have gave some bull shit mono tone answer like Shaq!!! Saying nothing while giving a quote. Howard Bubba and Ferrall all say shit that not every one agrees with. So is it any different? Should the media and non fans pile on them for what they say that is not popular? HELL NO!!!! Let it die we should not care what some pro player says!!!
RIP_DB
Lets all be honest here...nobody likes a fag.But don't tell it to the public when your a (so called star). Why ruin your reputation. Can you say John Rocker!!!!
MLBoros72s
All this gay bashing is so disgusting to me. I'm not gay, and I don't even really have all too many gay friends or know too many gay people, but when I hear churches and politicians hiding behind the "gay problem", I just get the feeling that these same people would have been the same motherfuckers who supported segregation. When will people realize that natural diversity isn't something that we need to fear, but something we need to embrace.

Tim Hardaway's car wash changes name after ''I hate'' scandal
by Steve Rothaus
Former Miami Heat star Tim Hardaway's name is off his South Dixie Highway carwash, just days after he declared on a local radio program, ``I hate gay people.''

Hardaway apologized, but the backlash has cost him a national endorsement deal and an appearance at the NBA's All-Star Game weekend activities.

A local gay-rights group then called for a boycott of Hardaway's US 1 Finest Hand Car Wash at South Dixie Highway and Bird Road.

Saturday a new sign went up: Grand Luxe Auto Bathe.

totally agree
RLM6370
Miami's Channel 10 said it won't rehire Tim Hardaway as its Heat playoff analyst because of his ''I hate gay people'' remark last week. ''There's too much controversy around him,'' Channel 10 general manager Dave Boylan said. With Hardaway in the news (but for the wrong reasons), about 10 of his jerseys were sold at a top Las Vegas retailer during All-Star weekend.
