Billy's Al Michaels impression was scary! Kinda like Larry Fein. So dead on! I hated when he left. I think his wife had a lot to do with it, I remember her being in the arguments.

Kali, I just saw your Hubble Scope page! Really cool! Not many astronomers here, so it's a nice change!

thanks PIR, that forum is such a mess now. :rolleye2:

anyway, I was downstairs getting breakfast - had my walkman on to hear the show.

Robin was saying something about the koreans in hangers drawing the animation - and how many "drawings" is needed for each "frame". I think she said 8000 or some crazy number. :jj:

if they are using film, there's 24 frames for every second of film.
they have the koreans draw the InBetweens (Key Frames are done first by the US team). and usually animators draw in Twos, meaning they just draw half the needed frames.
so, for film, they draw 12 frames for every second of footage.

make sense??

It does. I'm not sure of exact numbers, but I know it takes a ton of frames just to do one simple movement in an animation. The background is pre-drawn, and the moving pics are on top.
These days, it's all done on computer, so it's shortcutted bigtime.
Nothing will match the old cartoons, where they actually drew the entire episode, framed it, filmed it, dubbed sound, and made great shows.
kali
12 x 60 seconds = 720 frames for every minute of film

a human still has to draw the keyframes

what the computer does is "automatically" keep the frames registered - the artists just create the resolution once and it gets transfered to all resulting frames.

and coloring the areas basically means identifying every area that needs a partular color and instructing the software to fill in those areas.
It still requires some work, people outside the industy have a "simplistic" view of exactly how computers speed up the process.

the biggest problem with using computers is that you are more likely to get computer nerds getting involved with the process and NOT artists. that is, people with experieance using other media (like pencils, oils, watercolors - tranditional artist media)

I've seen this happen myself and it does affect the work that results.

Happy B-Day girl....... :birthday:

thank you Hawg!!!

:jj: just hearing Billy do Geoge's voice. Amazing stuff!!

Chob
I love hearing this. I never got to hear any of this the first time around. To think this would have been rotting away in some CBS vault somewhere...
kali
I love Billy doing "Dinkums" :funny:

Damn, cable had problems!!

That's the problem. You don't have to be artistically talented, just be a software professional. It's tough to go back to the old ways, only because it's easier, quicker, and probably cost effective to do it the modern way.
Give me a Tex Avery hand drawn cartoon any day!

Same with the music special, and MTT, and now this! Glad CBS screwed up, and had to give up the tapes!

Oh man... I knew a little bit about Howard because I watched Private Parts growing up, but I didn't know Billy Freakin' West was a part of the show to.

I GREW UP ON REN & STIMPY! I grew up on Doug!

Man... Freaking great. Especialy the Marge Schott appology. Still has me rolling on the floor laughing.

Too many great moments..and tomorrow is Part 2!

I hope this special has led to some kind of reconciliation between Howard and Billy. I would love to hear him do something on the channels.

Billy never had a problem with Howard as such. it was with the Station and that they wanted Billy to sign a paper saying HE was responsible fotr whatever was siad over the air in case the gov or someone sued/fined.

that's just nutty and that was BEFORE the FCC did this last billion dollar fining shit!

And what the heck could howard do about that???? the radio station runs the way the suits want it to. they aren't going to listen to Howard JUST because he helps bring in tons of money.

in any case I have been trying to get Sirius to stream over my 8525 cell phone. It comes and goes. it's a bit uneven, but it's fun trying to figure it out.

kali
Ah, this morning I was taking a shower as I listened to howard interview Bill(y) Mumy and Billy West was doing the voice of the Dr in Lost in Space. My god! was that funny. I almost forgot how funny!! :jj:

and, of course, right now it's Leona Helmsy!
Under Pressure
I didn't realize how much Billy contributed to the show. What a talent he is. Some real funny bits.

Best two days of vacation programming yet.

I was over on the old GC. What is the deal there? For months they were posting about wanting Billy West albeit they want him back on the show, but that does not look like it's going to ever happen. Now, they get the next best thing. All of Billy's best bits and there is nothing but complaining over there. I guess Howard is right there is no pleasing some people no matter what you do. I personally am enjoying the old Billy bits.
Namedrej
Today was awesome. I missed a lot of these bits when they first aired 'cause my shitty job. Billy definitely took the show to another level when he was on. Brought back a lot of memories too.

this is why I will never post in "GC" again.
it's not that I wouldn't welcome a discussion of ideas, but I have NO interest in whinning. and GC is nothing but Whine, Whine, Whine, Whine, Whine, Whine, Whine, Whine, and so on.

these morons can't say anything useful, insightful or interesting. If you object to something, make a fucking point.

I just don't care to waste my time.

Would I have liked to hear more "behind the scenes" from Fred??? sure, I can't get enough of Fred, or Billy. But the fact that there was some comments - even from Scot, was really nice. It gives you guys who never heard this stuff an idea of what it was like in the studio then. and it brings back memories for me.

I swear, they better do a "Fred Special" because that will also be fantastic - if done correctly.

Got that right bro. I spend more time here on the darkside. I just lurk in the old GC area. Way too much drama over there for my taste, also too many people crying for attention. I like it better over here.
