N.Y.U. Student Republicans Mount Jaunty (Racist?) “Immigrant” Hunt

They’re not exactly descending upon Washington Square Park with horse and hound, but members of the College Republican club of New York University have certainly managed to offend some rather more proletarian sensibilities with their “Find the Illegal Immigrant” challenge, scheduled for today between 11 a.m. and 2 p.m.
From The Associated Press:
[M]embers of the club who present their N.Y.U. identification become immigration agents looking for an illegal in the crowd. The agent who successfully identifies the illegal immigrant wins a gift certificate.
Students have sent club officials e-mails calling the the event “racist” and “disgusting.” But the club said it is about stoking debate on the issue of illegal immigrants.
(Further clarification — it seems that an “actor” will play an “illegal immigrant,” wearing a label saying as much. The first contestant to find him or her in the crowd will win a prize.)
It’s all a bit reminiscent of the white-students-only scholarship stunt offered last November by the College Republicans at Boston University. Those seeking the token $250 award, which was ostensibly designed to spark debate about race- and ethnicity-based grants, were required to maintain a 3.2 grade-point average, submit a photo, and to describe what it means to be a Caucasian-American today.
On today’s illegal-immigrant hunt, Sarah Chambers, the 21-year-old president of N.Y.U.’s College Republicans, told The A.P., “It’s not a racist event, first and foremost. Just because we don’t want illegal immigrants being able to completely disregard the laws of our country doesn’t make us racist.”
Meanwhile, folks over at NYUinc.org, a “radical media Web site produced by student activists at N.Y.U.,” are planning to protest the safari.
“As intelligent, active, anti-racist folks, we want our actions to support immigrants on campus and in this country,” the group wrote this morning, “and educate our community about the realities of immigration in the US today.
“We’ve got banners, stickers, chants, literature, and passion. Join the 600+ folks who are attending and show that NYU students are pro-immigrant rights!”

Assboil...there is one common theme among college republicans...they never get laid...they have the little boy haircut ala jerry seinfeld bad haircut episode and they always dress like it's casual friday...most of them are merely republicans b/c their daddy is and their participation in the young republicans is more to get attention than anything else...they are so pathetic that they'd rather be hated by all of the other rational students than be non-existent...sort of like the boy in elementary school that hits the girl to show he likes her..
at my school, Swarthmore College, there were literally 2 members of the Young Republicans at any given time...no more...no less...and the speculation was often that the YR was merely an excuse for them to bang... |

Well in 1943 my grandparents were in the US and had been for years. They came here during WW1 not WW2. They have been dead for years, but they hated Hitler. My grandmother's best friend growing up disappeared during the holocost, she was jewish. They also told me other stories of people they knew who died during that time. Yes there are people from that era who still feel the nazis were right, but the real germans out number them 100 to 1.

Properly cured buds that are stored in an airtight container (the old fashion mason jars with the rubber gasket are best) in the freezer, will last indefinitely. I've had weed that was preserved this way for more than 5 years... fresh as the day it went in. :) |

Yeah, the lower classes still refer to 2000-2006 as the "Golden Years" when the republicans lifted so many of them out of poverty and gave them the opportunity to better themselves.

in the 40+ years since the johnson admin, how has poverty done? and how do those who are poor vote, even when republicans are in control of things? my point is minorities and the poor always vote democrat and the democrats who are elected do nothing but work to continue the same policies that have kept them held down for the last 40 years. what great success stories does welfare have to offer? food stamps? and as far as affirmitave action, while the idea is great it in itself is a racist policy. to make universities and business bring in people based on their race and not their qualifications is racist. it doesnt matter what race it "helps", its still racist. |
