This fucking sucks. On hbo no commercials on Spike we will be lucky to see 4 or 5 fights.
-Mirko Cro Cop (#2 Heavyweight in the World)* vs. Gabriel Gonzaga
-Andrei Arlovski (#7 Heavyweight in the World)* vs. Fabricio Werdum (#8 Heavyweight in the World)*
-Ryoto Machida vs. Forrest Griffin
-Michael Bisping vs. Elvis Sinosic
-Assuerio Silva vs. Cheick Kongo
-Dennis Siver vs. Jess Liaudin
-Alessio Sakara vs. Victor Valimaki
-David Lee vs. TBA |

| Rumor is HBO wants control of the product but the UFC wants control. Plus HBO wants to get rid of Goldberg and Rogan and replace them with their own announcers. |

I'm glad Dana is being faithful to SpikeTV and all. Let's face it, without TUF and UFC Unleashed, SpikeTV might have crashed and burned a while ago. The UFC stuff really helps them continue to be a major ratings grabber (I mean relatively, not literally, I'm sure the network stations still kick everyone's ass in Cable, but relatively to most Cable stations)
But, like you pointed out.... SpikeTV = commercials.
And no offense, but if HBO plans on using people like Larry Merchant, I'm going to fucking stop watching MMA forever..... I hate that mother fucker, and the rest of the announcers aren't all that great either.
Joe Rogan cracks me the fuck up.... that guy doesn't sugar coat ANYTHING. He tells it exactly like it is. And for MMA newbies such as myself, sometimes his commentary during the fight where he explains how someone is twisting to get out of a hold or putting his arm up near his ear so he defends the rear-naked choke and shit like that is very insightful for someone like me who doesn't train and is new to the sport.
If they get rid of Rogan, they're going to be hurting for someone who is as knowledgable about the moves and shit. No offense, but boxing commentators won't be able to say SHIT about MMA fights....
I could care less about Goldberg.... he's another cookie-cutter announcer in my opinion....decent, but he doesn't stand out |

Ok..... let's do this:
Cro Cop..... I don't think I need to explain why
Machida.... I like Griffin, but he's got some wierd issues, and he's inconsistent. Sometimes he's there to win, and sometimes I get the feeling he could care less. I don't know who Machida is, but I don't think Griffin has the hunger he had during TUF season 1
Bisping.... I don't know who the fuck Sinosic is, but I like Bisping... he reminds me of an old-school soccer hooligan from England. Loves to just beat people up. I like his attitude with regards to fighting and MMA. I hope he does big things.
I guess Silva..... Never heard of the other guy, but Assuerio Silva has never impressed me..... ever. I could care less, but if I had to pick one, I suppose I'll go with the guy I've heard of.
The last three I could care less about.
I purposely didn't pick on the Arlovski/Werdum fight. I hear Werdum is really good, and I've seen Arlovski in action. Sometimes Arlovski wants to win, and sometimes he doesn't, obviously. I'm not sure which Arlovski is coming to fight, and never seen Werdum in action.
I'll defer to people in the know on this one.... |

Excellent point. I hadn't thought of that. That does suck because there are a couple of undercard fights I'm interested in. I want to see if Herring redeems himself. |

This is exactly why the UFC is not on any other networks.
Zuffa has had total control over how the product has been delivered so far on Spike. ESPN, HBO, NBC, etc. .... are not going to have any part of that.
Zuffa needs to look at this in a different way.
Let's take for example ... the NFL. There have been 6 different companies producing the way the games are broadcasted. FOX, NBC, CBS, ABC, ESPN, and now their own network. All of them have different styles in the they way they put the product out. But the NFL does have some input on what they can and can not do.
Not every UFC event on ESPN/HBO should sound exactly like a Spike/Pay-Per-View broadcast.
Now if the hang-ups with working with HBO/ESPN are that they are going to be putting their regular fight guys on these broadcasts than I can completely understand. It would sound like the first UFC event and would turn off a lot of new people.
I just don't see how HBO or ESPN would be that dumb.
I think the reason why you are not seeing the UFC on any other network is because Zuffa is not willing to give up a lot of control on how the broadcast will be produced.
Dana and the Fertitta's egos seem to be getting bigger and bigger the more attention they are getting.

To me ... a Pride produced PPV vs. a UFC produced PPV is no comparison. The pride product is much better:
- The fight entrances
- The shorter fighter introductions (Bruce Buffer is really becoming annoying)
- Shorter breaks between fights which means more fights
- And the under card fights are as exciting if not more than the main fights. |

Don't forget, this is an overseas event, so we are talking tape-delay.
All Spike has to do is extend the program, then they can have their commercials and no bouts SHOULD be missed. |

OK ... Listen up ...
In these days of the internet you really can not tape delay something like this. It won't be as exciting with most everyone already knowing the outcome.
The reason it is going to be on Free TV (if you consider cable free) is because of the 5 hour time difference.
The PPV buys are not going to be as big.
Might as well increase the audience by showing an event this big for free and live. They will still probably replay it in prime time that night. And if the fights were good there will still be good ratings for it.
The UFC can charge Spike (or whoever else they give it to) a lot of money and they will make it back by charging big bucks for advertising.
Dana has said in the past that they are not going to be showing all 9 fights. People at home pay $40 something for 4 or 5 fights while those that are paying $100 plus at the event get to see the whole thing. I see his reason for that, but that makes me want to buy a Pride event more when I can see the whole thing. |

He has to prove himself in K1 for a bit. It's probably going to be a few years before this happens.
Good thing he is still young. |

| while I agree with you that lesnar needs some seasoning, he's really just a cro cop away from being the UFC HW champ... look at hamil. hamill is a 3D wrestler with the striking abilities of a golden retriever... if it weren't for cro cop, les would be a force in the UFC.. |
