When asking about other memorable fights from his early years in the NHL, Secord has a nice story to tell.
"Like everybody knows, Clark Gillies was a player who didn't have to fight too often, because he was simply one of the best and toughest ever. We were playing a play-off series against the Isles and O'Reilly had fought with Gillies a few times. I thought I'd give O'Reilly a break and fight Gillies myself. I engaged the fight by punching Gillies with my glove. When he dropped his gloves and I saw his fists, I got nervous. His fists were so
unbelievably big, and he was a big guy, too. All I saw were his hands. He punched me twice and I went down."

Clark Gillies will forever be remembered as one of the biggest and most intimidating figures in hockey history. He is best known for his days as a member of the New York Islander he was an All Star left winger with the four time Stanley Cup champions. However he ended as a member of the blue and gold Buffalo Sabres.

immediately made an impact in the NHL by scoring 25 goals and 47 points. However it was in the Stanley Cup semi-finals that Clark made a real name for himself. The up-and-coming Islanders were overmatched by the defending Stanley Cup champions, but that didn't deter the rookie from taking on Dave "The Hammer" Schultz in a memorable glove-dropping. Schultz, who had just set a new NHL record with 472 penalty minutes, was the NHL's most feared fighter. But big Clark destroyed Schultz and sent everyone around the NHL a clear message - Nobody messes with Clark Gillies or the hottest young team of the era, the New York Islanders.

Clark quickly blossomed to a key player in the NY Islanders team that captured the Stanley Cup four consecutive times between 1980 and 1983. He scored over 30 goals in six of his next seven seasons and had solid point totals of 61, 55, 85, 91, 54, 78 and 77 respectively. In the late 1970's and early 80's he was one of NHL's premier left wingers and was a 1st team All-Star in 1978 and 1979.

Clark didn't dazzle anybody with his speed or his savvy. He had a hard shot, but his best trademarks was his great two way play, hard work, leadership and the respect opponents had for his fists. He didn't have to fight very often because his near presence calmed down many after-the-whistle scrums. And when he did have to drop the gloves he would more likely than not make quick work of any challengers.

Do you work real hard at being an asshole or does it come naturally?

I've played against pussies like you who make sure the ref is holding them and they shoot their mouths off knowing nothing can happen. Man, I'd fucking bury you if you ever had the balls to suit up.

What an asshole you are. The fight between Orr and Erskine was over before it started and each guy landed a half a punch. No one won or lost you fuckin tool. Boy, you are about as objective as George Bush. It's no surprise as you know nothing about the sport as you've never played.

Here's one of Wilson beating the shit out of Gillies.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SrlOw00FIck

By the way, Fotiu kicked the shit out of both Wilson and Gillies.
