Tonight was the last ever show of George Michael's Sports Machine after 27 years.

Not sure how many of you were familiar with this show, but it was a half hour syndicated Sunday Night sports show that aired mostly on NBC affiliates since 1980.

It was very poorly done and George Michael was not a great host, but for those without cable in the 80s, this was the closest thing to Sportscenter.

I will miss the show and the many memories I had as a child staying up way too late to watch all his sports highlights.

Thanks for the memories, George!

Damn I missed tonights show, I wanted to watch it just because I remember watching the show when I was supposed to be in bed back in elementary school. :(

Exactly. There was not much fanfare of sentimentality, but I am glad I saw it.

But, he can retire a millionaire and I can't. So props to him

Actually, I must admit I did not watch the whole episdoe but found this on Wikipedia:
The last episode aired on March 25, 2007. After thanking his co-host, sponsors, syndicators and staff, Michaels closed the last show by saying "I close every show every Sunday by saying 'Thank you for letting us be a part of your weekend.' Well tonight, for the final time, we say 'thank you, thank you for letting us being a part of your life'. From everyone at the Sports Machine, have a great weekend eveybody. We hope to see you somewhere down the road of life. Thank you." Michaels then walked off camera, and is heard to say "Last one out, turn out the lights" as the show closes for the final time.

Thankfully I still have it on Tivo!

Ah man. I had no idea. Back in the day, before ESPN was available on my cable system, I used to watch him every weekend. That had to be back in like 83 or so. I still passed by him every now & then and saw it a couple weeks ago. That's crazy. Oh well, times change.

I did not know there was a connection between George and Cousin Brucie. From wikipedia:

A native of St. Louis, Missouri, Michael has anchored the sports desk at WRC-TV (News 4) in Washington DC since 1980. Previously he was a WABC-AM disk jockey noted for his boisterous personality and energetic style. Several incidents from his radio stint at WABC in New York City have been chronicled in deejay "Cousin Brucie" Morrow's autobiography.[3] George Michael replaced Morrow at WABC in 1974. Before that he was the popular evening deejay at Philadelphia's WFIL Radio (560 kHz) from 1966 until his move to WABC]. While in New York, he also served for several season as a commentator on New York Islanders telecasts, where he was paired mainly with Tim Ryan.

Agreed, the show sucked.....

The Little Giant Latter System Infomercials were more riveting.

The Sports Machine was a glorified public access show. He would stand there and press a button to roll the sports clip.

C'mon. George Michael was doing this shit when Trey Wingo was suckin his mama's tit. Give him some props for being a forerunner of sports highlight shows at least. Seems like a nice enough guy.

Will he be re-uniting with that Andrew guy? Wham is back!
