I just bought a sweet 97 s-10 the other day and my friend that sold the truck told me when he was handing over the remote start keypad "You might as well just throw this away...using it will fuck the starter up"..
I am very confused about this...
Can I get some feedback?
Oh yeah...here's some pics of it...

I just thought you guys in this forum would appreciate this thread more..than the place previously known as "General Chatter" crowd...
and here's some of the description from the ebay entry..

| Don't think so. The dealership would know more about that though. |

I believe it was installed by the truck's previous owner before the one I bought it from... |

| I had a Bronco that I installed the remote starter on. I loved it, it was a Clifford and it worked from about 250 yards away. Tha car was cool in the summer and warm in the winter, when I got in, but after about 3 years, my starter went. The mechanic said it was because of the remote starter. I bought a used starter for 90 buks, but kept the remote starter in because it was so convenient. |

That sounds like normal wear and tear.
I haven't heard anything about them causing excessive dammage to the starters. I would like to know though I was looking at different models and thinking of buying one for my van. |

| Where it will screw up is if the starter stays engaged too long..The alarm system picks up the running signal off the injector...Sometimes the starter stays engaged while the engine is running for a few seconds..This repeated process will kill the starter..Also if your engine doesn't start right away and it isn't a good alarm, it will just continually try to start the engine..A starter isn't rated for continuous duty...Mine trys three times for 5 seconds...If it doesn't start within that time span it quits completely... |

| 5 seconds is a long damn time to engage a starter... can you program it for 3 second intervals or do they come pre-programed. |

5 was a guess...It's prolly less...It's pre programmed...You may be able to change it though..Not sure..
I'm wondering why the guy said that in the first place..They probably replaced the starter when they did the transmission..
And yes starters don't last forever either.. |

I bought a '79 CJ5 off of ebay. The jeep was in Ohio, I'm in RI. I sent my buddy out to pick it up and trailer it back to me. I paid him $600.00 to pick it up. When I checked it out, it was not exactly as described (long story).
I notified the seller, expressed my displeasure and things that I discovered. He was pretty good about it and reimbursed me 10% of the selling price. That was in December, and I'm still getting it roadworthy and inspectable.
I hope you have better luck. Sorry, can't help out with the remote starter thing. |
