I am trying to breed my cattle into more compact packages with more marbling for certified angus beef if you have ever heard of that. Corn and feed is very expensive due to the ethanol boom. |

Yes I have. Do you use steroids, antibiotics for your cattle? What do you feed them?
I am part of an enviro group and this is the worry for ethanol, it diverts food out of the agri stream and may not actually help with the problem. |

Getting off subject here now, but no we don't use hormones since it takes time and money and are cattle are pretty well muscled the way it is. We use antibiotics only if the calf is sick or has a bad eye, not mass feeding. |

I haven't heard of that, anyway it hasn't been in the many farm, ranching, and livestock industry magazines my parents and I receive for free. I like to keep my cattle really practical, so it is definetly something I would want to stay away from. Cloning (which is the craziest shit I've saw when I saw the show cattle Full Flush bulls) isn't such a bad idea, just the actual clones need to go to the glue factory rather than the food chain. They are so expensive to do, you would want to keep them a live till they die of natural causes anyway. By having clones you would increase the supply of expensive cows to flush for embryo transfer and semen from good bulls. |

well its still definitely in it's early stages, but media reports suggest it will hit your industry within 10 years, n perhaps within 5. i agree that clones should be kept out of the food chain...rendering cattle for feed has prolly caused an irrevocable tide of prion-formation, the self-perpetuating process of protein-inversion that creates mad cow disease and the variants that affect all other animals. |
