lol... well, yeah, those are the kind of customers I prefer, but I actually don't do a whole lotta custom work anymore. I mostly design my own parts, build my production molds from them and then hand-build them from the molds.... not a whole lotta customwork at all cause I'm just too busy with my production. |

I try to stick with the major chains if I know there's one somewhere. Heck, I deadheaded 60 miles just to get to this one in New Jersey (it was actually the closest one from where I delivered yesterday -- it's not a truck-friendly state). |

Well thank ya :hw: ... I appreciate that Rogue. I actually just got started in the Viper market about a year or so ago... been wanting to get into it for a loooong time. Hell, just to replace a hood through Dodge for a 92-02 Viper will run you right around $20,000... a front bumper is $4,600, etc.... it's a pretty salty market when it comes to buying parts, and nobody really designs much of anything different for them, so it was a great opportunity for me to go crazy with some new designs for some good money. :) |

Brother, tell me about it. In my opinion, most of the NE states aren't very truck friendly.
However, I did go from Indiana to Main once without hitting a single toll booth. Not entirely sure how LEGAL I was while doing it. And it took quite a bit of extra time. But by damn, I did it.
I take a lot of pride in how crafy (read "cheap") I can be when it comes to tolls. |

Just curious, NT. How long, start to finish (assuming you paint and clear coat the hood as well), how many man hours is involved with a hood like the one shown on the 1st place car? |

Not a thing wrong with that. A guy can make a lot of money in that market as long as their creative and do quality work. It's one of those things where ya get a hell of a lot more business through word of mouth and rep than you could through advertising. Your work HAS to speak for itself. |

You were illegal at some point, especially when you got to New York (LOTS of 65' restrictions). Once I get back in my regular ride, I have EZPass (actually PrePass+ -- combo unit), so the tolls won't mean a fucking thing to me (I say that after having spent almost $200 this week on tolls -- fucking NYC bridges and PA Turnpike). |

Well I actually don't do the paintwork. One I build the peices and assemble and trim them, I then bake the hood, blocksand and prime the hood twice.... It ships out finished in primer and I'd say that I have altogether about 20 hours into one. It's not too bad.... there's a lot of drying/curing time invloved so it usually takes about 2 weeks to build one from start to finish. |

Yep... that's just the way I like it. I've never paid a penny for advertising, no website or anything like that. I like the word-of-mouth approach... casue you're alwasy hearing about it from somebody who's owns one. It's not like I need to advertise anyhow, being that I don't have any employees and hand-build everything personally, I'm alwasy busy enough :cool: |

I would have guessed a little more time, but that's awesome to be making some coin doing something you really enjoy and have a talent for. I'm in the process of trying to figure out a similar situation for meself. ;) |

Thank you all for emailing me your resume…I do appreciate all the offers of help from listeners all over the country. Apparently every IT guy on earth is looking for a new job…I appologize for taking up any time on the show, and I also appologize to Bubba. He might not believe it, but when I blew a gasket yesterday in the office, I wasn’t directing any of it at him…at that point I would have said the same shit even if he wasn’t there….I was burnt out…period.
I try as best as I can, to keep as much technical talk away from everyone at all times…it is distracting to them in a bad way. Bubba doesn’t need to know everytime something is on the fritz, thats my job to worry about it. The down side to that is, if no one knows how many fires you’re already trying to put out, then all the departments don’t even realize that they are just burying you more with each new project. During the show, I am kind of stuck at my desk recording and logging everything that goes on during the show…that kind of ties up 5 hours out of the day…and makes it look like that’s all I have to do, so when other stuff in the building takes a shit…I have to stay through the night to get it done…unfortunately…it’s almost daily, that I’m calling my wife at the end of the show, and saying “gotta stay tonight, maybe I’ll see you tomorrow”. After a year and a half of that…she is starting to wonder why I stay here. Honestly, I stay here because I love it…I’m a little bit of a workaholic (like all of us at BRN), and I will spend any amount of time needed to get shit done right…but occasionally, even I get burnt the fuck out…Yesterday, was one of those days… I don’t want to be babied…No one needs to step lightly around me…I’m not gonna come in with a trench coat and an arsenal…I still love everyone here…wahhhhh!!!!! |
