I've been getting a bunch of "acquiring signal" messages this weekend. Before I rush out and replace my antenna, I am wondering if anyone else has had a problem the last couple of days.

In your home or car?

I get that aswell, but only on my car reciever which is a JVC ,but i think that the technologie wasnt that good at the time i bought it.my other units are pretty good,

I have a JVC unit also and I often get the "searching for signal" message

seems that i had more problems in the winter

I started having problems at work the past week or two with my reception so i took a small piece of metal a little bit bigger than my antenna and placed it under the antenna and i have not had a problem since.

Car - should have said. Thanks for the feedback, I tried cleaning my antenna leads and no improvement - I think after a year and a half of exposure on the roof of my car, it is deteriorating. I will buy a new one. Probably Radio Shack will have one.

Once i go a new radio i never bothered to even attach it to my car i just threw it up on the dash and i have never had a problem with reception. I am sure alot of it could be the area you live in though :dontknow:

I started getting the same problem this morning. I'm in Dallas. I have a Sportster replay in my car.

I couldn't get a signal for most of my 30 minute commute this morning. The signal is usually perfect.

Something must be going on. Maybe the satellite has moved or they are doing some testing?

As crazy as it may sound my attenna is on my floorboards between the car's seats and it doesn't seem to make a difference, it picks up fine. In the one or two areas in town that it loses the signal moving it to the dash didn't make any difference. I like it out of sight anyway.

I'm in Seattle, and I haven't had a decent signal for a week now. It was really cloudy and I thought that was it, but it's been clear the last two days and it is still sucking. Then I figured it was the antenna since I've always had great reception. Hell I wouldn't put it past the nazis to try to help their propaganda machine clearchannel by blocking the signal.

I am having similar troubles with my S50 here in the Philly burbs. I called the Sirius support staff and they had me do a 3 finger reset and the signal still sucks.

Just another "me too". Haven't driven my car in awhile (~week or so). Took it out last night for errands and had NO SIGNAL. It was a short drive, so I didn't really think about. When I got in this morning, had NO SIGNAL for most of my drive. This was in the Portland, OR area. Normally, I walk to work and then listen to the stream, so I have no idea how long this has been going on.

Any other PDXers with same/different experience?

....I recently bought that better $40 home/outside antenna and thought I would put it on my balcony and get better reception -- but had trouble--so to make along story short--I went back to the original position by aiming it a lower angle(like I have been doing for over a year) and it works---------try a lower angle pointing towards your direction............

As I stated in another thread I exchanged out my "no signal" obsessed S50 with a Stiletto 100 and so far so good. Make sure when you but from the big retailers that you get the service or performance plans. I walked into Best Buy with my S50 and presented it to them and in a scene reminiscent of the movie "Gladiator" the mobile tech gave my old S50 the thunbs down!!! All in all an even exchange along with a $35 gift card. So we'll see.

I have the XACT Replay here in Arizona.
Never had this much of a problem as I am having today and last night.

It's been "Acquiring Signal." pretty much 99% of the time since last night. It might come in for a few minutes, but it's inconsistant, choppy and eventually is gone.

I even checked Yahoo news to see if maybe there were Solar Flares or something causing the distruption, and there are some recent stories about a Flare in December that caused more problems with satelites than anyone were prepared to deal with. But other than that, nothing else.

That's when I checked here, wondering if maybe it was just me or if this might be a bigger problem. I'm starting to worry that it might be a bigger problem.

Just went for a whole 10 minutes without a problem, now we're back to trying to acquire a signal again. I was just about to report it was all better now, too.

I just want to point out that there is zero cloud-cover right now here that might cause this and that maybe others might want to check that out as the source.

And here's a link to the story I mentioned.

Just to follow up, everything's been working fine the last couple hours.

Yeah, I'm in Oregon and I've been having constant "acquiring signal" messages all week. Especially during the morning commute.

I am in Northern California and in the east bay and also been having some trouble with reception the last week or so....no I am aiming the antenna at a lower angle and it works..although at night I have to move the antenna about 12 inches to the left every 3 hours or so.....part of it I believe is they(Sirius) added these repeater(extra) antenna around the big cities so if you aout in the burbs--like me---there is no repeater so it is harder to pick up...hope this makes sense---------good luck--hang in there!!!!

Hi all;

I bought the 1st Sportster years ago. I've moved several times since then. Where I live now ( a high rise building in Forest Hills, Queens, NY) I don't get a good signal. When I do, it's VERY temporary. Is it the hardware? I am tight on money, but love Sirius so much that I am willing to spend to get a steady, quality signal. What is the BEST piece of hardware out there right now? How can I get the best signal? My antennae is pointing where it should, I was just thinking if it's a ardware issue, I'm willing to upgrade. Any advice would be appreciated..thanks al.

Cheers!
