I am getting all kinds of no signal activity lately with my S50. I love it and have never had the nightmare issues that some others have had. I am growing increasingly angry with the performance of late. So I am looking into buying a Stiletto 100 to replace the S50. My question is, is the signal receiving capability any stronger than the S50's? I am probably going to use it mostly the same as the S50 with regard to it's recording capalities. Can anybody give me some help about this topic? Thanks.

i had problems too but i called s50 support ( 800-869-5364 ) & they were fantastic, problems solved

I have an S100 - replaced a broken S50. I wish the S50 had not broken. It was a great product, until it broke. The S100 'goes to sleep' after 'about 4 hours' and has to be 'woken up' manually to allow it to record. So you have to be there to get it to do what the S50 did automatically. I have it on a car dock in my house (with an after-market FM transmitter (an additional $100)).

I am trying to figure out if it 'goes to sleep after about 4 hours' on the home dock, too (which I would have to purchase). The Tech Support person I spoke to this evening assured me this happens on both docks.

Do not even get me started on the quality of Customer Support or on dealing with UPS on this. I am probably just over-stressed by the cat food recall situation. It is so sad. :(

This thread helps. I'm getting an S50 from a friend who never used it. Thanks

I don't understand....the S50 doesn't get a live feed correct? So if that's the case what signal are you referring to when say it's reeption was bad?

He might be talking about when its docked in the vehicle. I never have problems with reception with my S50. The only problem I would have is when the unit was docked in the car and I would turn on the car the antenna would cut out and I would have to turn the unit of and on but once the firmware was updated problem gone!

I'm talking about the S50 signal when I have it on my home dock. I called the support line and did the 3 finger reset jones and it improved fora great signal Monday, shitty "no signal" Tues and Wed. I ordered a Sirius Outdoor Home Antenna from TSS-Radio for one final shot. If that doesn't work I'm going to Best Buy with my 4 year service plan and replacing it with a Stiletto 100.

I had the same exact problem with my s50. lucky i had the extended warranty with circuit city and they upgraded me to the stelleto100 for an extra $20. but the 50 is so much better in many ways. i liked the ease of the remote and the how big the letters were on the display while driving. also on the 100 you cant just channel up and listen while you go. you have to scroll thruough the channels then hit the enter button to get to the channel. but i guess the portabilty of the 100 is great so what are you going to do.
any ways hope this helps out

I have an S100 with a home dock and in my experience, as long as I have it tuned to the channel I want to record, it will stay on all night long. I usually sleep for eight hours or more, and it records from 3:00 am until I leave the house at 7:00 am without the unit falling asleep, plugged into its home dock. However, I was also able to let it record all night before I had my home dock. I just set it on the window sill, plugged it into the wall, and left it on all night, and it recorded fine. One night it mysteriously went to sleep on me but I'm not sure why it did it that time and none of the other times. The home dock eliminates that variable (and seemed to improve signal strength as well, until tonight, when I suddenly ran into signal problems out of the blue).

Lots of online research later, it appears the S100 is designed to fall asleep after about 4 hours of no human intervention - if in the car dock. If asleep, it will not record. In the home dock, which I picked up at Radio Shack for $50, it stays awake the same as the S50 did.

It seems there is always a wrinkle, however. The signal from the home dock to the after-market fm transmitter is Much Louder and Distorted, compared to the way the signal was from the car dock. I am not a radio/physics/electricity person but have been trying to figure out how to step down the signal from the home dock to the fm transmitter, thin king this might correct the distortion. Changing the volume on the S100 has no effect on this.

More research. Purchased the CCrane FM Transmitter - it has an integrated volume control
(the whole house transmitter does not). The CCrane works beautifully. I opened it up as described in:

http://www.xmfan.com/viewtopic.php?t=3257

to increase the range. I found the VR2 pot was already turned up to the maximum setting and
closed it back up.

The setup is working well. Two more advantages of the CCrane are lower purchase price and
ability to use any frequency (the whole house uses dip switches to set one of a few possible
frequencies).

I hope this helps anyone who is making the switch from S50 to S100.

No comparison, Stiletto is the way to go.
