Death is like going to sleep and not dreaming- or ever waking up.
Glenda Yenta
Why do you find that scary? It beats eternal damnation with nonstop torture at the hands of demons.

Damnation is existence- with existence there is feeling- and hope.

In the typical model of damnation there is no hope ("Abandon hope all ye that enter here"). It's unending torment. On the other hand, a restful night's sleep is a blessing.

Usually not.

To cease existence and all awareness is depessing.

Maybe it means you should be grateful for the time you have left and make the best of it. Either that or become religious and start to believe there's more.

To think about it is. To have it happen isn't.

So you have some choices.

You can religion up and take heart in believing that you will go on in conscienceness and spirit. Be carefull you don't go to hell... that would suck.

Perhaps reincarnation? You'll have a new life but unfortunately won't remember past lives.

You can accept that death is inevitable and the final sleep won't cause you a bit of depression... or happiness... just nothing... but make every day alive count.

My only hope is to die in my sleep so I don't know about it. Until then, I'll hug my kids every time they are in proximity.

not to me.
Life is for living. stop worrying about being dead. it hasn't happened yet. and when it does, you won't know about it.

the only thing that is real is NOW.

The Mormons address this at great length. Prior to birth you live with God, and he chooses when to send you to earth in the physical form. Your time on earth is a test and determines your worthiness to live with God eternal.

Eidetic memory, curse/blessing that it is... I remember the Missionaries visiting weekly preaching to us shortly after my Aunt and Uncle had converted.

I read the "Book of Mormon" and the "Pearl of Great Price" more than 25 years ago and found it an interesting read, but not inspiring. I had read the Bible a few years prior, and for historical sake it has it's place; but still I did not find the word inspiring. Except for the Chapter "Revelations"... It's a better read than most fiction and probably inspired many modern movies. Good stuff.

So, to answer you question, at least one religion that I'm familiar with has already answered it. I'm sure there are more that I don't know about.
Stickman
That's not my point. What was your life like before you were born?

Do you remember living with God?

Death is a natural part of life. Rejoice for those around you who transform into the Force. Mourn them, do not. Miss them, do not. Attachment leads to jealousy. The shadow of greed that is.

Death isn't so bad.

It's knowing that you're going to die that isn't so great...

Also getting to be dead can sometimes cause discomfort.

One must be concious of it to be blissful in it. Death is a state, I am afraid, that has no concious state- so to be a part of infinite is hollow- it would be ecstacy to join the wheel of ka that flows through the universe- to be a part of the winds that sweep over the dunes- the breeze that scoops over the white caps breaking on the beach, to be a part of the warmth to feel the love- but to be devoid of it, is to be an agonizing existence lamenting ones own ensuing demise- perhaps this is why many great poets have been such drunkards...

That may be your best post ever.

I agree with your sentiment because of my atheistic views, and it pains me to know that there is nothing more than this mortal coil.

Not really, all is well. Just had that sad moment when I realized that there is no heavan and there would be a time that comes when I am no more and I know not those that I love- or feel the nourishing warmth of their company-

I think, now more than ever, why the warmth of good company and great wine, is so hard to replace.

Too much to live and love for- too much happiness to be cherished and enjoyed.

To think you have only one chance at life, to make it the best you can, to see all the world before you die.

And then you turn 18 and spend your whole life working to pay bills and taxes and never being able to leave your town because you can't afford it.......because some greedy beauracrats told you that you OWE them for being born.

Pretty fucking sad existence we live in, if you ask me.

My life let me play with her asshole the other night so I think if I play my cards right, I could actually tag her ass again in the very near future.

I don't think I'd ever "tag" my own asshole.... even metaphorically speaking.

I'm no homophobe, but I'm secure enough in my masculinity to tell you that I can't imagine sticking anything up my ass or even considering it.....

I dread turning 40 by the way, it scares me more than death does.

You insure her satisfaction? What's the monthly premium for satisfaction insurance?

Women are costly... you ever tried to insure a woman's satisfaction?

I mean you have to insure her a house
a car
a diamond ring
satisfaction in the bedroom

Insuring a woman's satisfaction is VERY costly... it's a materialistic world for women out there.

I think you're confused or I'm confudeded???

I played with her ass, not the other way around...

I've been married to the same girl for 17 years and have learned a thing or two about marriage. It's about compromise. If you can't accept what annoys you about your partner, it won't last. Most important, Be Nice to you significant other! Sounds simple but often couples let contempt creep into the relationship and that is the end. Try to always treat your partner as if you were still dating. It's hard sometimes but it works for me.
