Hey gang, maybe you can help me out with some "know how"...
Today (4-27-07) I went to upgrade my cable system to Cox Digital .....which in turn will allow me to now receive Howard TV...actually, its the ONLY reason I upgraded..I've been meaning to do it, but never had time from work to make it happen..well today I did, so I went forward with it...
so I go pick up my digital box....I make sure Howard TV is part of my new upgraded service....
I get home and hook everything up properly, make the phone call to initate activation and I got nothing!!
after hours of phone help from Cox, the end result is, since im running my cable from a splitter, the signal from Cox Communications to the digital box wont happen!
I can not eliminate the splitter.....the cable comes out my wall, the splitter is connected....one line goes to tv..the other to my modem....
AND also when i hook the cable right up to the tv theres no problem....I've always had cable.....but for some reason the splitter is preventing the cable signal to go to the digital cable box
Im totally confused on this....has anyone had this problem??...if so how did you fix it (if at all possible) |

| it could be a cheap splitter or a weak signal coming into your house... |

Sounds like a weak signal is being sent.
A splitter should not be the problem. |

| They are lying. I have two splitters in my room alone and get Howard TV. You might have to have a tech come out, have them put on a new splitter (that can hold enough juice for all your connections because a cheap splitter will mess things up) and they will call in to have your cable reset. My Howard TV went down once and they kept telling me they were resetting the cable but honestly, they didn't do anything because the guy came out and got it reset and my box shut down and had to restart. So, get somebody at your house and if you pay yearly, make sure they see how much your paying and if they feel sorry for you, they won't charge for the splitter or for any cables they install. They'll probably first check your signal to see how high... or low it is coming in. (Cable company tends to get very nice to Howard TV subscribers. It's amazing how nice they suddenly become). |

ok...thanx for the info!....when I was on the phone with them they set up a guy to come out sunday...but today I will go buy a better splitter and maybe that will work?
Is there any brand or type of splitter I should pick up?..someone mentioned a booster?!?
if this works i'll have howard tv today!..hahaha
just to let you guys know, when i was on the phone with customer service, they had me hook the box right up to the cable coming out the wall.....so i did that..i disconnected everything....and had the cable right out the wall into the digital box and it did receive the signal......but like i was saying, when i put the splitter into the equation i get nothing.
anyway..hopefully i can land a good splitter today and have it working |

| I know you definitely can't get a cable company signal splitter at a place like Radio Shack so you might have to wait. Until then you can watch it by directly connecting. |

well i went and picked up an inline signal booster (the kind that requires to be plugged in) and I still get nothing (bought from radio shack)
so I'll just wait until tomorrow for the tech guy to come out and see what says
thanx for the advice everyone.
I'll let u know how it turns out |

Splitter is definatly NOT the issue. I have Cox and never had any splitter issues.
They are fucking morons- the techs at Cox. Any time I call about an Internet issue they always fucking ask me if I have a splitter. |

| When I upgraded to Digital cable IO service the cable company gave me new splitters to replace all the old splitters in my house starting from the first cable split coming into the house. The splitters are made by Viewsonics and marked "Digital Plus" 5-1000 MHz with -3.5dB outputs. I have multiple digital cable boxes in the house with no problems on any of them. |

| don't buy any splitters or boosters. they will give them to you if needed. it is probably the signal or the box itself. on demand is also sensitive, sometimes it will work and other times it won't. but obviously there is a problem if it dosen't work at all. good luck |

| Have they come back out yet? It has to be the signal coming into your house being degraded by each splitter connection. |

the tech came out yesterday..(was supposed to be between 5 and 7...well he showed up at 3:30..hahaha..he lucked out because i had a dentist appointment that day and only worked a half day)
so what he did was put new connectors on the ends of all the cable runs, put in a better splitter then what i had and gave me a new digtal box which was 5 times smaller then what was originally issued to me.....he said its the new version od the digtial box..its very small..you can hold it in one hand
after all that it was working!..I watched 3 howard tv's immediately hahaha....im enjoying it so far...I was hoping the valentina Vaughn episode was still there
But i did go to radio shack and by a booster for $45 bucks!!...but now i dont need it.
so thanx for everyones info..I'm up and running |

never put any money into fixing your cable signal
you pay a monthly fee to the cable company, it's their obligation to get that signal to your tv |
