Something tells me if the Brewers drop 7 out of 10 in July and are suddenly 6 games out of the wild card race, you Brewer "fans" won't be as easy to find. Without cheating, name the Brewers starting line up for me.

Nice 1982 AL Champs candy bar.
spreedogg
well I don't think they have been this many games over .500 for about 15 years so I am getting in my gloating now...they play the mets next weekend so gl

fan club of one so far...where the crew fans at?????

The Cubs are comin boys. Don't get to happy. Decent hitting team, but your pitching has pitched above expectations and your defense is shitty (besides Hardy).
spreedogg
ok I am sure Jason Marquis and Ted Lilly are pitching just like you thought they would..Brewers staff is no fluke...but maybe Wood and Prior will come back..then watch out :p

My high school buddies had a basketball team in a summer league called the "Brew Crew" so I guess I'm a fan. (except when they play the Sox) :D

I know it's May, but I am not sure I am prepared for a world where the Brewers have the best record in baseball. In all seriousness, I grew up near Ricky Weeks (I am a couple of years older) and he is destined to be a future star.

I didn't say they were a fluke. I said they were pitching above expectations. And Marquis has been a suprise, but yes I did expect Lilly to pitch this well. He won 15 games last year in a very tough AL East and had 160 Strikeouts. He has always been a decent strikeout guy. And it has usually been the case when an AL pitcher comes to the NL he does pretty well (i.e. Arroyo). So yeah I did expect it. Wood was going to be nothing more than a Bullpen guy and I could give a shit about Prior.

How about you? Vargas, Bush? How long are they going to do it? How about Jenkins? How long before he goes into an 0 for the century slump and can't hit lefties for shit?

Five and Fly: Brewers are toast of baseball

By Tim Brown

Tuesday, May 8, 2007 1:22 pm EDT

We're more than five weeks in, and spring's throw-away question – Who will be this year's Detroit Tigers? – appears to be answered.

It's the Arizo… wait, no, the Milwaukee Brewers.

The Brewers were a common pick to win the National League Central, as, to many (not, sadly, to me), they seemed the best of an ordinary lot, which doesn't exactly make them a thunderbolt division leader.

But, 22-10? The '06 Tigers went out 20-12, the slackers.

My rationale for picking them somewhere south of first place was their paucity of run producers, given they'd not done much with Carlos Lee in the lineup for four months last season.

Now they're third in the NL in runs, second in home runs and, in case the home runs fail them, third in batting and sixth in steals. Brewers – yes, Brewers – are among the league leaders in batting (J.J. Hardy, .336), home runs (Prince Fielder, 9; Hardy, 8), RBI (Fielder and Hardy, 26), OPS (Hardy, 1.002) and steals (Rickie Weeks, 7). And Bill Hall hasn't found his power stroke yet after hitting 35 home runs last season.

Yet, while all that is nice, here's the key: None of five starters with whom they broke camp – Ben Sheets, Chris Capuano, Jeff Suppan, Claudio Vargas and Dave Bush – has missed a start, and only Bush has an ugly (6.03) ERA, mostly the result of two dismal outings.

And GM Doug Melvin is on a roll.

At the last trading deadline, he acquired closer Francisco Cordero and fourth outfielder Kevin Mench for Lee, whom he couldn't afford. Over the winter, he dropped $42 million on Suppan, the NLCS MVP, and also gave up Doug Davis for catcher Johnny Estrada and starter Claudio Vargas.

The result: Cordero has blown two saves since going to Milwaukee, neither of them this season, in which he is perfect in 13 save opportunities and hasn't yet allowed a run. In fact, we'd like to take this moment to congratulate Florida's Cody Ross and Houston's Morgan Ensberg, who have the two hits Cordero has allowed in 14 2/3 innings.

The result: Suppan has five wins and a 2.63 ERA.

The result: Vargas, not a great pitcher in four previous seasons in Montreal, Washington and Arizona, is 3-0 with a 2.89 ERA and Johnny Estrada is batting .296, mostly while holding down the fifth place in the order behind Hall.

As if to make any early point, the Brewers have throttled their division rivals, winning 17 of 25 games in the Central. They host the Washington Nationals today and tomorrow, then line up Suppan, Sheets and Capuano over the weekend in New York.

Only 130 games left…

Yes, I live here now and they are the worst sports fans, so happy over nothing. They were so happy when Wisconsin was #1, they didn't care they got bounced in the 2nd round, "oh well, at least we were #1 at one time", they kept saying that. I cant wait for the collapse.

another day another win....6 in a row

I am with you Spreedogg! One of the best starting rotations in baseball & if we are leading after 7, game over. We also have the best young infield in baseball & Braun has not even been called up yet.

13 of the next 16 games are on the road against good teams, if the Brew crew goes 500 during this stretch they will be in a very good position.
Disco_stu73
Met fan here...looking forward to an exciting series. Unfortunately, the pitching matchups all favor you guys (bigtime), but that's why they play the games. Let's go Mets!

Go Crew, im with you !! for life...

Good game tonight. Brew's gave the Mets a good fight. I think you have a good young squad, however I think you'll find a little tougher competition outside the NL Central. I think you guys should run away with the division this year but you'll get a good idea of where you stand when you start playing some more games outside the division. You guys will get Pelfrey tomorrow. Hoefully for the Met faithful he'll finally get a win under his belt. Here's to a good series.

After today where do we stand?
johnni37
Good win for your Brew crew guys. You really handed it to us. Pelfrey was not helped by the fielding gaffes. Then you pounded the shit out of Smith....OUCH! Should be a great finish tomorrow. I hope to see these two teams square off in the playoffs. Tony Gwinn had some game as well. Good lineup on that squad. With a weaker NL Central than last year and with the deep bench Milwaukee should be there in the end.

My opinion hasn't changed. You guys have a good squad, I said that yesterday. I didn't say that you'll know how good you are if you can beat the Mets tomorrow, I said once you play more out-of-division games. The NL Central is a weaker division this year. You guys took it to us today. Pelfrey is still a good AAA pitcher but you were able to light up Joe Smith who hasn't given up an earned run in his career yet. Tomorrow should be a good finale. Unfortunately I won't be able to watch it.
johnni37
Welcome to the NL East Brew crew. Prepare to get your asses handed to you now.

i'm no brewer fan but i did a double header last year where the first game was a cubs/cards game at wrigley and after the game we drove up to miller park to see a brewers/astros game....loved miller park....i spent the entire game just walking the park and sitting in different seats throughout the stadium

it would be nice to see them make the post season

Here to break up the no hitter. Time to jinx Lopez. Brewers better win this game and Sheets got hurt so what else is new. I bet Cubs end up taking the division lead soon if Sheets goes on the dl.
