From what I can gather the biggest "pro" in letting these people who openly break the law stay in our great country is they do the jobs americans don't want...Right??

Well my question is why can't we boot their illegal asses out of the country and make all those millions of able bodied pieces of garbage sucking on the goverments tit do those jobs americans don't want? For all those employers out there that can't afford to pay $20 an hour to pick oranges let them continue paying the same wage to the welfare idiots that they were paying the illegal aliens and simply deduct that from what the goverment is currently stealing form my check to pay some idiot to watch Maurie Povich.

If they choose not to work in the meat packing plants, corn fields, bean fields, roofing housing, etc etc then ther free ride paid for by my taxes is OVER!!!

We have millions on welfare that spend their free time watching Jerry Springer, popping out child after child, dealing drugs, robbing our homes not to mention our paychecks and some Senator has the balls to tell me there are jobs that americans don't want? Who the hell asked them if they wanted a job the better question would be do they want food on the table and a roof over their head.

How many of those worthless bastards would have the energy to steal my TV/car radio after a 12 hour shift in the the corn fields?????

End of Rant

edit: By the way that five thousand dollar amount per person doesn't amount to jack squat if you consider the number of illegals that receive free health care costing the health care system and you (see $10 tylenol) Billions of dollars.

LOS ANGELES - David Guerra wants to be legal, but he says the path to citizenship offered by the Senate on Thursday would be too risky and too expensive, and could end up driving him deeper into the shadows.

Guerra's wife and children in El Salvador depend on the $300 he sends home each month from his job as a day laborer. Key provisions of the legislation would require him to return home to apply for residency, pay a $5,000 fine and spend thousands more in application fees.

That would be disastrous for his family, he said, and, worse, he's not sure he can trust U.S. immigration authorities who have been rounding up and deporting his fellow immigrants for months.

"If I go home, who is going to guarantee that I'll be let back in?" said the 44-year-old who lays bricks, clears weeds and does landscaping.

Across the nation, illegal immigrants, many of whom toil in dirty, low-paying jobs, sharply criticized the Senate's immigration overhaul package as overly burdensome and impractical.

"Where would I find $5,000? In two years, I don't get $5,000," said Daniel Carrillo Maldonado, an illegal immigrant who was looking for construction work outside a Home Depot in Phoenix.

The agreement between the Senate and White House would allow illegal immigrants to obtain a special visa. After paying fees and the fine, they could get on a path to permanent residency that could take eight to 13 years. Heads of household would have to return to their home countries first.

Some illegal immigrants said returning home presented another major hurdle: Applying for residency at U.S. embassies in their home countries.

Amy Ndour, a 23-year-old illegal immigrant from Senegal who lives in New York, said she would be willing to pay the $5,000 fine, but not return home because her family there depends on what she earns as a hair braider.

"I'm helping myself" here, she said. "I'm helping people there too."

Karina Corona, 32, an illegal immigrant from San Diego, works seven days a week at two jobs — one at a delicatessen and another as a seamstress. She said $5,000 is a small price to pay.

"Compared with the better jobs you can get, it's nothing. It's well worth it," she said.

Carlos Velazquez, a 40-year-old illegal immigrant in Los Angeles, said he applied twice for visas in Honduras, and both times had to pay several bribes to local embassy staff.

"Only with money will the monkey dance," said Velazquez, using an idiomatic expression to refer to bribes.

The Senate agreement includes a so-called "point system," which for the first time would prioritize immigrants' education and skill level over family connections in deciding how to award green cards that allow permanent residency.

Family connections alone would no longer be enough to qualify for a green card — except for spouses and minor children of U.S. citizens. And new limits would apply to U.S. citizens seeking to bring foreign-born parents into the country.

Many illegal immigrants said they had little incentive to apply for residency because the process was long and did not offer much hope of bringing their families.

"If I'll never be able to bring my family, why should I apply?" said Jose Monson, a 33-year-old illegal immigrant from Guatemala who has lived in Los Angeles for four years. "I prefer to just stay here illegally."

"If I get deported and need to cross the border again, that's not a problem," he said.

Several unions, which have many immigrants in their ranks, took issue with the creation of a new temporary guest worker program.

New workers would have to return home after two-year stints, with little opportunity to gain permanent legal status or ever become U.S. citizens. They could renew their guest worker visas twice, but would be required to leave for a year between each stint.

"Temporary workers depress wages and create a second-class work force that is disconnected from the U.S. mainstream and not equal," said Eliseo Medina, executive vice president of the Service Employees International Union.

Pablo Alvarado, director of the National Day Labor Organizing Network, said the guest worker component would likely exacerbate rhetoric between anti-illegal immigration groups and immigration groups. Groups such as the Minutemen regularly stage protests in front of day labor centers.

"You will still have the anti-immigrant organizations blaming immigrants for depressed wages," Alvarado said.

Still, the agreement gave some hope.

In Houston, Marco Antonio Rodiguez, said he would be happy with a permit that would allow him to work legally and return to Mexico twice a year to see his wife and three children.

"Immigration reform would benefit us so much, both ourselves and families," said Rodriguez, a 48-year-old illegal immigrant who does odd jobs. "We want the law to be approved. I'm praying to God that it passes."

Pascual Bravo, an illegal immigrant who works at a construction company in Middletown, N.Y., was also eager to achieve legal status.

Bravo, 49, last crossed the border in Arizona eight years ago, paying a smuggler $1,800. "I miss my country," he said.

everyone?

Living in America is cheaper and more effecient due to illegals existing in America.

I've waited for this moment for years now. Living in California has become a nightmare. Now, the rest of the country is going to be sorry for not paying attention to the problem for the past decade. I'm leaving California for good because the poverty, slums, and the crowdedness illegal mexicans bring with them is going to spread to the last decent areas of California, and eventually to YOUR state.

"In the first place, we should insist that if the immigrant who comes here in good faith becomes an American and assimilates himself to us, he shall be treated on an exact equality with everyone else, for it is an outrage to discriminate against any such man because of creed, or birthplace, or orig in. But this is predicated upon the person's becoming in every facet an American, and nothing but an American ... There can be no divided allegiance here. Any man who says he is an American, but something else also, isn't an American at all. We have room for but one flag, the American flag ... We have room for but one language here, and that is the English language ... and we have room for but one sole loyalty and that is a loyalty to the American people."

5000K and the head of household would have to return to his/her home country before obtaining citizenship: how many illegals could actually afford this?
roadretard
Well look on the bright side.If they gain legal status they will work shit jobs no one else wants. Also they will have to pay taxes and Social Security. In Texas where I live an Illegal can get all the indigent health and education and public assistance they want without showing a greencard.Maybe this will take some strain off of the American taxpayer.

this is good for sinistar gay.................
Tom from T.O.
Big Business loves the illegals because they can exploit them. That is why this shit goes thru. It is no way to build an immigration policy and there will be blow back for this lunacy.

Agreed. What happens with the next 12 million that flood in here. More taxes to pay for them and their families. Second generation won't work so hard. All the benefits with none of the problems. Disgraceful. Doing jobs Americans won't do is fantasy to justify them being here.

I know this is a hot topic right now for Mexico...but does anyone know about the laws for Cubans coming over to florida? If Coast Guard, Border Patrol, or Customs stop them before they make dry land in the states they are sent back to cuba. But if they make it to dry land, they are made US Citizens, given health benefits, if old enough they are given social security with never working a day in their lives in the states, and regardless of age they are given $8000. I was stationed down in the keys for four years and I was shot at, had machettes and knives swung at me and seen things I do not want to remember. But for some reason no one seems to know about these laws.

Think of how shitty our country is going to be in 30 years.

It won't be passed, plain and simple.

Al-Queda couldn't have crafted a better long range plan to destroy America than Bush, Kennedy, and McCain just did. And they did this in a post 9/11 world! Previous immigration laws have been ignored by our own government. Why would they enforce this newest bunch of laws in this horrible bill? It's a scam, and a sham, and a complete sell out of America. We can't absorb 20, 50, 100 million, half a billion of the world's poorest citizens without our whole country being dragged down. I've never seen the US government more disconnected from it's citizens than now.
tedeso
the thing to do is get rid of the IRS and start a national sales tax so these non americans contribute instead of deplete
IGOWFO
The illegals state that they are some of the hardest working people in America, I believe that is only because they cannot draw welfare. I do not want to have to pay some fuck from another country, hell I am tired of paying for the fucks from this country that will not work. They say that there is no one to pick the fruit. Do you think that if they become citizens that they are going to take these low ass wage jobs, Hell NO! I went into a union factory outside of Columbus, Ohio a few months back and 75% of the workers were Mexicans, that could barely speak broken English. They need to ship all the illegals back the fuck where they came from. During picking season if they still want to come over here and work collar there ass up willie with a gps locater bus them the fuck over let them pick, make money, and bus them the fuck back. That way the work gets done, they make money and we do not end up supporting them.
Deathshead
Makes me sick to hear this, my grand parents on both sides immigrated here (from Germany and Ireland) and had to adapt to make America their homes, they didnt expect America to conform to them which exactly is happening. Its pretty damn sad when you drive in certain parts of Las Vegas, and for stretches at a time cant read any of the signs/billboards because they are in spanish

Illegals Get Welfare Despite some peoples ideas they don't I am starting to clearly see that Los Angeles Is not like the rest of the country but it is spreading, In Los Angeles there are so many illegals it is ridiculous, Most don't have drivers License and no car insurance thousands of people are killed and crippled by them and all they do is buy a new ID and keep on driving. Property Damage is outrageous, Living in the low income areas they continue to have child after child they can not afford in the hopes that the more they have the less chance they will get deported, they don't belive in birth control or family planning in any way.
They have difficulty assimilating an American lifestyle contributing to gang violence by failing to supervise and parent there kids because they have so many. Most enroll there children in Public schools paid for by my taxes, they pay no taxes. They have no Insurance of any kind, That raises my rates, They are on welfare, food stamps, W.I.C., There kids use food coupons at the public schools. All this and they proudly display flags from every country all over there cars and homes. At this point I clearly see that IN Los Angeles it is widespread, in other parts of the country it is not as bad, If not controlled and Illegal immigration is not stopped this entire country will be dealing with this soon enough. My Two Cents anyways.
Salkicksass
It should be legal to kill illegals
