Maybe here's something we can agree on...

When feminist magazines use Mother's Day to drag out their annual chart of what a nanny, cook, chauffer and maid (never a prostitute) collectively make - and determine that a stay at home home is worth some $140K a year...

Aren't we taking the politics of "fair" pay for labor to its most extreme conclusion?

Who exactly is suppose to "pay" this salary (other than the guy who is making, at least that, and still has something left over for shirts and socks (no pants needed!)

Last I heard, people who take care of the kids, cook the meals, clean the house and chauffer the kids around for after school activities make BELOW minimum wage, get NO benefits, work six day weeks and depend on room and board to make ends meet. The position is called "au pair" and it pays - at market value - about $300 a week. (And sex with the the sponsering family is optional, but may put a few more bucks in her pocket... unless the wife finds out.)

Just one of those things to conside we we try to assess what we are "worth" what we can actually make...

But - Hey - maybe the Govt should determine that a stay-at-home mother IS worth $140K a year and - should there ever be a divorce - the Man owes here that base salary from the day they were married to the day they got divorced... or go to debter's prison ? ? ?
