It's nothin' but a buncha liberal chicken-littles runnin' around saying the sky's falling. There's been environmentalist wack-jobs forever. They've all united behind the global warming myth because it's scary and there's no data on the subject, so it's hard to disprove.

There's no proof in favor either. MOST scientists agree that there's global warming and that's it's mankind's fault? Says who? I hear that line from a lot of people, but I'm not gonna believe it just because Al Gore says it's true. Give me names and hard data. The environmentalists can't because there isn't any. They all quote this mysterious "they"... They say this... They say that...

A couple/few thousand years ago, most of North America was buried underneath glaciers. Somehow all of that melted even without air conditioning and automobiles to blame. IF there's any global warming going on, it's got nothing to do with us. It's the trend that's been happening on the planet for thousands of years, LONG before the invention of internal combustion.

The truth is, humanity is nothing but dust riding along on this big rock in space. We have NO effect on anything on this planet long-term. The greatest works of man are invisible from space. How significant can we really be? (Dont' give me that Great Wall bullshit, that's a myth. Even if it's long enough, it's nowhere NEAR thick enough to be visible. Just a popular urban legend)

The ice core data says that CO" lags behing temperature wits approx 800 years, Gore did not mention that. Sun spots and the earths temperature are much closer linked together than CO2 and the earths temperature... I'm not so shure UN are honest with us, it looks like someone is trying to kill the African dream, wich is to develop. The 3rd world is losing more on this global warming than the 1st world. The purpose of the hype is to introduce a global carbon tax. Don't buy into it and don't support politicians or corporations that push it.

There is no hype, it's real. We can 'can' this thread.

I hate to be the devil's advocate, but how did the glaciers melt? there has been more than one ice age, how did those glaciers melt? I have no doubt we are aggrivating a natural occurance, but we did not cause the earth to warm up. it has been doing it for millions of years before we got here, and will continue for millions of years after we are gone, or at least until our sun goes supernova, and all the planets will be sucked in and crispied before it gets dark. use it up while it's here people, and fuckin' enjoy it......:tu:

The glaciers were put there during the ice age, the last one ending about 10,000 years ago. They have been receeding ever since. I think the scientists figure there have been 4 major ice ages in the earths history. The ice age is beleived to have happened because of a big meteorite hitting the earth, causing dust, blocking the sun, and cooling things down.

It is hard to find non biased information on the topic of global warming. The oil and gas companies spend a lot of money to try and discredit what scientists are finding, and a lot of people get brainwashed to beleive that it is just a big load of crap that the treehuggers are supporting.

I beleive that global warming is just one of the effects of mans impact on earth, and to ignore it and call the scientists who are studying 'whack jobs' is one of the dumbest things a person can do. Money is the root of all evil.

you partially make my point tho, how hot was it before the rocks hit, or the supervolcano spit ash into the sky, also causing a global blackout and causing temps to plummet? I know what they say may have caused the ice ages, but they melted off too. what was the duration of those ice ages? were the melting periods of the glaciers shorter from event to event? no one can answer that stuff.....did the reversal of the magnetic poles have anything to do with how fast the earth warmed? so much to be answered, and absolutely no one knows the answers. but I ain't gonna get worked up over it, there's absolutely fuck all that I'm gonna do that will change anything. let it ride.....

Another thing you right wingers who make money from oil and gas always seem to do, is assume that anyone who beleives we should pay attention to global warming must have all of the answers in their pocket and be up to date on all of the science :D That is a shoot.

It is o.k to make money with oil and gas, and beleive we are going to destroy the earth. I've learned to cope with it. Hopefully my tax dollars will go to studying it with real science, and to find real solutioins to real problems. I know my tax dollars are real....

This is one issue where feelings seems to outweigh the science of it.

Oh, and your wrong :D :D :D :D :D

The oil and gas industry are capitalizing on supply and demand just like any other business. I would almost say like the "Global Warming" er "Climate Change" crowd. If you want the product, pay and if not peddle your ass all over town. I work in construction in the oil patch and make good coin doing so. I figure climate change has happened for about 4 billion years so 100 years of records means fuck all in my books. All the tree huggers can buy carbon credits and feel great about themselves but other than that what are they willing to do? Shut down world economies? As they say in geology "Strip mining eliminates forest fires". Get balanced opinions when forming yours but don't assume all scientists agree on "Global Warming" er "Climate Change". One other thing why is it now climate change not global warming?

wrong about what bro? that there was multiple ice ages? or that nothing I do is gonna change what's going to happen? those are the only statements of belief that I've made. I agree we are contributing, but to say that if we stopped burning all hydrocarbons and everything will be a-ok is false.....the earth will still be warming, no? even if we were never here as in the previous ice ages, the earth would warm up and melt the glaciers, but at a slower rate I'm sure.

edit; I also take issue with the right wing deal. I have seen the arguments for both sides, and based my opinion upon that. common sense and probable logic...no movie hype, or promises of millions from oil companies. just a redneck Albertan's possibly flawed logic.....

Earth is 5 billion years old. We have been able to accuratley record temps for the last 100 years or so. We really know nothing about the Planets long term weather patterns.
If there is a problem I think they are working on it. I see more and more hybrid cars on the road. If a democrat was president we would be kissing his ass for getting hybrid cars out there. I guess it's just how you spin the facts.
rigmover2307
if we have no impact on our global environment, then it must be a complete coincidence that in the days following 9-11 when all aircraft were grounded, the average global temperatures dropped 3 degrees. primarilly attributed to the decrease in heat reflecting cloud cover created by jet contrails.

Actually, from haven spoken to astronauts, as long as the object is long enough and its color is a different color from the surrounding soil it can be seen. The only subject really up to debate is what you consider space. From low shuttle orbit many things can be seen from the moon, nothing can be seen.... except Artie he can be seen from as far away as mars.

I do believe global warming is going on. However I don't support the agenda of enviromental wacko treehugging hippies either. As a farmer on the plains of Nebraska, I've been seeing more weather extremes along with some very bad drought with record high temps. I don't want to be told what to do as far as what chemicals I can use on my crops such as the recent ban of Roundup ready alfalfa, (which is also a biotech issue), or how to maintain my cattle. It is going to be hard to enforce enviromentally sound practices in third world countries that are just trying to get by. They are probably bigger perpetraters to global warming than we are, and if we don't make them follow the rules we won't be competive globally economically. I doubt if we can reverse the damage, so the best thing to do is try to prepare for global warming in a worst case scenario.

I do believe all the cfc's and other things are causing that hole to grow to bigger sizes then normally it would.

Global warming is occuring but at a rate none of us on the planet right now will ever deal with its full effects.

....lack of sunlight in the winter yes,but in the summer it is daylight 24/7,not to argue your point, .....just sayin :D
Rodehi
....this does argue your point
Since ozone is produced by solar UV radiation (the sun), one might expect to find the highest ozone levels over the tropics and the lowest over polar regions. The same argument would lead one to expect the highest ozone levels in the summer and the lowest in the winter. The observed behavior is very different: most of the ozone is found in the mid-to-high latitudes of the northern and southern hemispheres, and the highest levels are found in the spring, not summer, and the lowest in the autumn, not winter. During winter, the ozone layer actually increases in depth. This due to the prevailing stratospheric wind patterns. While most of the ozone is indeed created over the tropics, the stratospheric circulation then transports it poleward and downward to the lower stratosphere of the high latitudes.....
....take a closer look at the graph, the greens and yellows are the thickest with ozone...the blues near the equator are thinner...
tomgunns
OK with your reasoning we have nothing to fear.....
