| what i have to say won' be popular here (then again is it ever) america and many other countries for that point are spending millions of dollars on helping them what we don't seem to get is....THEY DON'T WANT OUR HELP if you stop and thing for a second in the 80's they were given a bunch of safe sex things but it's against the belief systom of most africans so they don't use them,thats how we got here |

The health care industry won't give us a cure for AIDS... they make money on treatments, not cures. |

I don't believe that for one second.
Having had the misfortune to work in and around one of the largest AIDS clinics in the US at one point in my professional life I can assure you that the vast majority of people being treated for AIDS are getting their drugs for free through Medicare or Medicaid [Fed money through the states]. These drugs are being paid for with Federal money, at highly discounted Federal rates. |

there is a prevaling myth throughout parts of Africa that the cure of Aids is to have sex with a virgin...in order to make sure the woman they are with is a virgin, they take newborn babies and have sex with them - of course infecting the baby...
Now if they are ignorant enough about sex education to believe this, do you really think they know why a condom might be necessary? |

Many Africans are culturally primative like you wouldn't believe. You would probably have to experience it first hand or study it for a few years(like I did) to even get a glimpse of how different the thought process is.
The "have sex with a virgin" cure is true as are a few other cultural norms that are even more backward.
You can't really even compare the social context of AIDS in Africa with AIDS anywhere else, even Brazil or Haiti.
The Catholic Church also has a lot of influence in Africa, and is responsible for a lot of the charity work. And you know their track record on condom usage. |

Seriously, you think that the health care industry is interested in curing diseases or just helping people cope with life-threatening diseases and lessening symptoms?
Why is it the last 'cure' we had was for Polio or Tuberculosis? Is it because we just can't figure out how to manufacture a 'cure' anymore?
Or could it be that since the 1950's, the Health Care industry has slowly realized that there is more money in making sure we can keep people alive and needing treatment rather than sending them home with a cure never to see them again? |

Foreign Aid does not work,PERIOD! There are more poor,diseased and starving people in Africa than there was 20 years ago at the height of the "We are the world" generation.
Billions of dollars later and they're worse off,Why?:
The govt's and militias intercept a vast majority of aid before it even has a chance to help.Not to mention the aid(food,supplies,medicine and cash) that ours and other countries give directly to the leaders of these African countries that they don't dispense.They're getting rich letting their own people starve.
In the end there is probably nothing that can be done,short of a massive multinational military movement into Africa to make sure the help is getting through. Sounds messy and loooong.

Foreign Aid works very well.
You're looking at the wrong outcome.
Foreign aid is a way of paying a country's gov't to act in a certain way. Much easier than invading. |
