I love all the shit talking that has already begun and the season is still months away. Noone is giving us a chance yet again. Even guys over at the supposedly official jets fansite are doubting our potential this upcoming season. I think it will be tough, but it is very possible for us to win this season and make a deep playoff run. All the doubters stay tuned!

To all the haters...

Keep dreaming Jets fans maybe you will get one of these in your lifetime.

Just remember jets fans, we were a "joke" to most people back in 1969 too, and a quarterback with bad knees and his band of misfits took us to the promise land. We can do it again!!!

The pats may have upgraded the WR position with moss, but the loss of dillon is going to hurt the running game, and that is how the pats have beaten us in the past, clock killin' corey dillon is no more in NE! Thank god!!! :D

Considering how "bad" we were/are in everyones opinion, it's funny we beat the pats last year, and we are a better team this year.

- on a side note, kingofallwhites, I agree that it was fucked up what miller did, but that being said, at least he didn't kill or shoot at someone like some of the players in the nfl. I believe that miller was the first jet player to get into trouble this year, vs the 4-5 player for the bengals.
djsmoke
Moss will help new england, but who's gonna kill the clock for you guys like dillon used to??? New england won several games vs NYJ by managing the clock better than we did. Brady cannot do it by himself, and god forbid NE management does something that randy moss does not like, he will take himself outta the game, he is alot like TO in that respect. Good luck with moss, your gonna need it.

It's frightening how well the Jet's did in free agencey and the draft. They are a monster team with monster depth at every position.

The Jet's will win the Superbowl this year. Even is Pennington has to do it with one arm.

It was a TD game w/ 5 mins left. That game turned on a fluke TO. Humilation is blowing a 21-3 halftime lead in the AFC Title Game.

The Jets didn't bring in alot of big names but they had a better offseason than the Pats who overpaid on a few players and brought in major character question marks. The current Pats are doing things the redskin way while the Jets are doing things the way the dynasty Pats did them. Don't be fooled by big name acquisitions.

I don't expect to win the SB this year, I d expect to be a playoff contender and ion Cahd's only 3 healthy seasons he's led us there every time. if we have the right pieces around him there is no question Chad can lead us to a SB. Chad, when healthy, is one of the best QBs in the league.

Go check out my latest post in the "Sid Rosenberg" thread.

His arm is more than good enough, I'd rather have a QB w/ an average and brilliant mind than a QB w/ a rocket arm and dumb as a stump like a Jeff george or Daunte.

football smart not book smart.

Chad hasn't had a good enough team around him, Chad has won plenty pf big game's and will again as long as he is healthy. this is a guy who outdueld Brady, favre and manning 3 consecutive weeks in 2002. The list is very short of Qbs who I would rather have over Chad.

Remember Chad outdueled Manning in the playoffs when manning had Edge, Harrison, etc... at their peak. The jets can definitely win a SB w/ Chad at QB but we need to upgrade around him. He won't carry a team like Brady but he can definitely be a difference maker as long as the talent around him is good enough. If the Jets were an NFC team Chad would alreayd have at least 1 SB appearance but we have the bad luck of playing in the AFC and having played w/ a dynasty team in our division and even w/ that Chad does have a div title under his belt which interrupted the Pats dynasty briefly.

Ok, so when the jets get to their peak and can't win w/ had then we can start poingting the blame at Chad but so ar when Chad plays we win. In his 3 healthy years(since he took over in 2002 as the starer) we have 3 playoff appearances while in his 2 injured years we had a total of 10 wins.
KingOfAllWhites
Your numbers are probabaly the same throught the league.

Most teams can not afford injuries to their starting QB's.

Look at the win percentage of teams after they lose their starting QB..I bet it is on par with the Jets.

I also would imagine that when the starting QB plays the entire season, the numbers would be similiar to the Jets.

IMO, Chad is mediocre at best
djsmoke
I trust in mangini, if chad ain't getting it done, he will put kellen in and we will see how well he does. However I think chad still has a few tricks left up his sleeve. He is without a doubt the second best qb in the afc east, I will give you patsys your due, brady is good. However, at some point the dynasty will end, every year you guys lost more and more coaches and players, and hell billy boy is going against his own winning formula by getting high profile free agents. We all see how well this has worked out for washington.

The whole reason I started a new thread was to get away from the whole how good/bad chad pennington aurguement. It is a never ending debate that I don't really feel like continuing. I will make a thread just for that, as for this thread, it is about the team as a whole. And I am sticking to my prediction that the jets will go all the way this year. I said that before the start of last season, and I still believe it, call me a fool, but I think we are better than people give us credit.

I am not deflecting, I truely believe my jets are gonna do it this year. Last year in the preseason I didn't think we were gonna do much. Then we started playing beyond my hopes, so I started to believe we could possibly pull something out. Of course we didn't go far into it, but we made the playoffs. Preseason last year, noone had the jets as a playoff team. Myself included!

I said then that we would not do well, but we would be a contender in 07/08. Well the season is fast approaching, and I still stand by what I said. We will contend for the AFCE and the superbowl as well. If I am wrong, whoopty fuckin doo, another year as a jet fan, however if we do make the superbowl, you heard it here first!

The Vikings from 2000-2005 w/ Daunte Culpepper were 4 games UNDER .500 but when Daunte was out they were 4 games OVER. 500. that's an 8 game swing while the Jets are 9 games over when Chad starts and 11 games UNDER when Chad has not started since 2002.

Last year Chad was a major question mark so I could see them takinga B last year(they did in rd 2) but taing Quinn? that wasn't an option now that Chad is healthy and they are high on Clemens.

The Jets have been nothing but successful under Chad, as long as Chad is healthy we always have success. You don't need a rocket arm to win games, again there are very few QBs I'd rather have than Chad right now.

What makes Chad soft? this is a guy who played w/ a torn rotator cuff in his throwing shoulder late in 2004, he put his career on the line b/c he gave the Jets the best chance to win then after injruing his shoulder again against jax in '05 he went back into the game and almost led us to a win.

Culpepper missed 16 games in Miny and Minny was 10-6 w/o him and w? him they were 4 games under and made just 2 postseasons despite playing in an incredibly weak conference and division. heck last year Miami was 1-4 w/ him and 5-6 w/o him. Chad wins when he plays unlike Culpepper, Cha dis a very unerrated player in this league b/c he doesn't have a Jeff george/ryan Leaf type of arm. Again, give me the average armed QB w/ the Harvard brain over the Cannon armed QB w/ the romper room brain.
KingOfAllWhites
What makes Chad soft?

How many times has Chad played 16 games when the Jets made the playoffs?

In fact, Chad has almost missed as many games since he turned pro as he has played.

He is the definition of soft. Even when he is playing he is complaining of an injury. It is always something with him. That to me is soft.

Also, dont compliment Chad saying he has an "average" arm. My grandma has an "average" arm...Chad's arm is nothing more then pathetic.

B/c a guy gets injured doesn't mean he is soft. This guy had a torn rotator cuff in his throwing shoulder and kept playing, he alo had a broken wrist/hand. he hasn't had wimpy injures he's a TOUGH player who has happened to have some freaky injurisbut has aways ome back much erlier than exected. If he wasn't tough he woudn't have come back after 3 games in2004 an he wouldn't have come bck early in 2005 and he would probably have quit after 2005.

Chad's arm is average, it looks bad cmpared to a Manning but arm strength isn't everything. How does a guy w/ such a weak arm continue t win in this league? it's not just about arm strength. If yu think his arm is weak go back and watch a clip of theChad to Moss TD from the 2004 playoffsat SD. YHe threw it about 50 yards in the perfect pot and did so w/ a torn rotator cuff in his throwing shoulder.

Injury=soft.

Ask a guy like Bill Parcells, or any big named coach.

Why do you think they dont stand for players who keep getting injured. It means they are soft. And Chad is soft.

History shows that he has at best a 50/50 chance to play 16 games this season.

Gotta love those odds with your starting QB. :D

It depends on the types of injuries, he isn't getting knocked out w/ weak hits. His wrist got jammed into the turf in '03 and he tore apart of his hand/wrist, he got driven into a cold, hard turf in '04 and tore his rotator cuff then he came back w/ the tear and led us to w/in a kick of the AFC title Game and came back early in '05 and reinjured it. He has take alot of
big time hits and usually gets up except for a couple of fluky injuries. I am not sure exactly how old you are but they used to say the same things about Phill Simms in his early
days. People remember phil as a tough player but he was hurt alot when he was young and didn't play a full 16 games until his 5th year starting just as Chad didn't play a full 16 until his 5th year starting.

No, just pointing out that simms was once considered soft. Just b/c you have some injuries doesn't make you soft. Chad has had vicious injuries and I think Chad is better than simms when Chad is healthy. give Chad that Giants D and he'd have a couple of SBs right now.
KingOfAllWhites
Chad would not have any SB's if he was playing with the best defense in the world.

Injuries define softness.

What is the over/under on how long it takes for Chad to either
A) Get injured and miss games
or
B) Say that he is injured but he is "playing thru it"
StumpMerrill

He would absolutely have a SB or 2 if he had the great Giant D's(or if the jets had been playing in the NFC this decade he's have at least 2 SB appearances). His D stunk in '02 and he had them in the div rd and playing w/ a torn rotator cuff in 2004 he had the Jets in position to make the Championship game but Doug brien missed 2 chances to win the game.

The injuries Chad has had prove he isn't soft. if a guy is getting hurt all the time and they aren't big time injuries then he may be soft but Chad had 2 fluke violent injuries. Chad is as tough as they come.
KingOfAllWhites
Chad is as soft as they come...any guy who cant play a full season, year after year, is SOFT.

It is not like this is a 1x thing...with Chad it is ALWAYS something.

I would have a SB if I had the great Giants D or played in the NFC. That isnt saying a lot.

In 2004 Chad fucked the game, not Doug Brien. If Chad gets his kicker in a better position so he does not have to kick the longest field goal in the history of the stadium then maybe they would win the game. That is on the QB and coach, not the kicker. Nobody had made a kick from that distance in the history of Heinz field, especially with the field as soft as it was.

I hope sourshoes does not share your thoughts on Chad..Id kill myself going to a game with you 2 and listening to how great Chad is.

He has had 3 mostly healthy years and 2 injured years, when he has been healthy the Jets have made the playoffs all 3 times.

Our kicker missed 2 makeable FGs, Chad didn't decide to take a knee and lose 2 yards but the bottom line thy were makeable and he missed them- that game was on Brien not Chad. The first kick I can give him a pass on but the 2ns one I cannot, he missed the 1st one by inches as he hit the crossbar but on the kick 4 yards closer he shanked it. if he kicks it the same he makes it. History at the 3 year old Heinz field doesn't mean much as a ek later Vinatieri into the same EZ nailed 47 or 48 yarder w/ plenty to spare and plenty of K's have made long kicks in that end since then. brien had a chance to win it and blew it.

have you narrowed down any dates for the game yet?

How can they go way back when the guy has only been here a little over 3 months?

Sourshoes and Stump go back to like Elementary school or something.

They have been friends since they were kids..That is how I know he is not Nuge.

Thats pretty cool they let Mangini on the show, I read an interview they did with him and he was really happy with it. He said he was a longtime fan of the sopranos, so he must have really enjoyed it. :D Way to go Man-genious!!!

One guy that is not bad is Andre Dyson. The secondary is not The Jets strongpoint, but maybe they can surprise many people like they did last year.
