I think that "Liberal Hollywood" gets bashed because they are quick to tell us how we should live our lives (see Global Warming apostles of Al Gore) and assume an anti-Capitalism stance while they lead lavish lifestyles due to the same economic system that they condemn.
I don't need to listen to a Liberal Hollywood elite calling for open borders while he/she lives in a masion that is surrounded by a fence and patrolled by security. If an illegal immigrant decided to take a breather on their property they'd release the hounds.
In short, it's about hypocrisy. There are some that are more moderate than others, but the majority will call for what amounts to a socialist society - the thing they don't realize is that the State would take away their land and their disposable income for the greater good. I don't think they would be so fond of the idea then.
Personally, I say good for them for making it in a business that is tough to even break into. I don't begrudge, for example, Leonardo DiCaprio for making his millions in the movie business. What I take exception to is his Global Warming rants while he travels around in a private jet and owns a mansion that leaves a carbon footprint that is 1000 times the size of my condo. I'm Conservative, but I do not fall into the "Religous Right" category. I could care less if gays marry or if adults purchase sex toys (I don't want the sybian confiscated from the studio, for pete's sake) or pornography. As for gay marriage, I think it should be a state issue - I did not agree with the Consitutional amendment that the President was pushing last year. |
