Sorry Petey, beat ya to it :D

If the Lakers are trying to get Kobe Bryant to change his mind about leaving, they're off to a good start.

The Los Angeles Times cited league sources on Monday saying that the Lakers and Minnesota Timberwolves are in discussions that could bring Kevin Garnett to Los Angeles.

Trade discussions initially involved the Lakers, Wolves, Pacers and a fourth team, and sources told ESPN and ESPN.com that that team was the Celtics. They would have gotten Jermaine O'Neal from the Pacers and sent young players to the Wolves. The Lakers would have gotten Garnett, while the Pacers would land Los Angeles forward Lamar Odom and center Andrew Bynum. Minnesota would also acquire at least one of the team's draft picks.

Later on Monday, the Times reported that the deal in that form had fallen apart because the Celtics did not like their end of the deal. According to the newspaper, the Lakers and Timberwolves continued discussions, trying to broker a deal just between the two teams.

Sources told the Times, however, that Wolves general manager Kevin McHale is not thrilled with the idea of getting Odom and Bynum, even if they come with the Lakers' 19th pick in the June 28 draft.

According to the Times, Lakers owner Jerry Buss and Wolves owner Glen Taylor spoke on the phone for about 20 minutes on Friday. Buss then suggested that Lakers general manager Mitch Kupchak and McHale carry on the discussions on Monday.

Bryant repeatedly has asked for a trade over the past month, saying that he doesn't feel that the Lakers are trying hard enough to improve. After losing in the NBA Finals four years ago, the Lakers missed the playoffs in 2004-05 and were out of the postseason in the first round the past two years.

Garnett never has requested a trade publicly despite the fact that the Wolves have struggled to remain competitive in recent years. Minnesota finished with a 32-50 record last season. The Wolves haven't been to the playoffs since 2004.

With Garnett able to opt out of his contract after next season, the time might be right for the Wolves to pull the trigger on a deal. McHale said last week that he has not been actively shopping his star, but that was a bit of a departure from previous statements in which he said he would not trade Garnett.

The 12-year veteran is owed $22 million next season and $23 million in 2008-09, the final year of his contract. He has requested an extension and the Times is reporting that Buss has told Taylor he would be willing to do that.

Garnett averaged 22.4 points, 12.8 rebounds and 4.1 assists last season. He is a 10-time All-Star.

Bynum's name has come up often in any trade talks concerning the Lakers recently. He averaged 7.8 points and 5.9 rebounds last season but is only 19 years old and 7 feet tall.

Odom averaged 15.9 points, 9.8 rebounds and 4.8 assists last season, but he did miss 26 games because of injuries. He has shoulder surgery in May but is expected to return for next season.

that would be good for LA but they better give up a 1st round pick as well

Head fits the triangle well actually.

Hey since Chauncey opted out maybe he plays for cheap to team up with KG again , this time in LA with Kobe....

No Chance, This is Billups chacne to get paid. This will be his last big contract, no cheap ones this time

If you're a Wolves fan....if the trade does go down, Minnesota would likely get Theo Ratliff, Gerald Green, Sebastian Telfair plus the No. 5 and No. 19 picks.....

In other words, Wolves will likely get squat in return.....message to fans, we're in rebuilding jones
timdawg6
They couldnt even make the playoffs with KG.

I think that would be a great trade if they could get Jefferson too.

At number 5 they could get Connelly or Brandon Wright. With their pick they could take Green, and with the 19th they could take a procjet pick. Team them with Foye and keep stocking young talent and they will be ready to make a move in 2-3 years

Obviously a retard who knows nothing about basketball, easy 1st ballot HOF'er would put the Lakers in serious title contention if the trigger is pulled :nono:

through what i've heard its a 4 team deal with the lakers, t-wolves, celts, and pacers. lakers get garnett, t-wolves get al jefferson and the 5th pick from the celts, celts get jermaine o'neal and i dont remember what the pacers get (i think odum or bynum), but this seems like a deal that can work for all the teams involved. i especially want the celts to get J.O. because he's one of my favorite players and when they also sign billups as a free agent, they'll be incredible.

i just read the article on espn.com, the deal fell apart because the celts dont wanna give up jefferson and the pick for o'neal. more proof, that Danny Ainge is worst GM in sports

Easy first ballot doesn't mean shit, if the Lakers had Garnett they wouldn't get past the Spurs.

kobe should be angling to get to the east where he and 4 chuckleheads could make a good run in the playoffs.

I am so sick of the Kobe crap. I say let him play out his contract and then leave. They traded Shaq and basically got nothing. If Kobe continues to whine, let him play and get trashed by the fans. I used to be a Kobe fan and supporter, thinking he just wanted to win and always got a bad wrap. Now I think he is a big baby who is turning his back on the fans and an organization who has stood by and supported him.

Are you serious this is the one move that he is right. J'Oneal is not worth Al Jefferson, Green and the 5th pick fuck that.

Mavs Laying Groundwork for either a KG trade, or a higher draft pick.

Is that a fan blog site?

Looks good to me the Celtics are getting fucked. Jermaine O'Neal is a good player, but he is injury prone and not even close to the player Garnett is. Jefferson is a good young player and will probably be better than O'Neal in the next 2-3 years and then the 5th pick that could be Conley or Wright that’s not worth it. Even if the Lakers get Garnett they will only have Kobe and Garnett with the rest of the starters sucking. You can't win with 2 superstars maybe if they sign Billups or somebody they could contend, but the Spurs and Suns would still be better. Let the deal go through so I can see the Celtics down fall continue.
