On the news they are talking about difficulties Benoit and his wife had in raising their mentally challenged 7 year old. Was he mentally retarded or autistic? does anyone know?

Both, apparently. CNN and MSNBC both have decent coverage of his genetic disorder. Which is about all they have decent coverage of regarding that story.

Both retarded & autistic. Story just keeps getting more sad. :(
Pussah2
retarded with a big dick
Cheri
The syndrome doesn't cause a big dick, it causes enlarged testicals.
Lou Cypher
He had Fragile X syndrome which can lead to autism. It's a form of mental retardation.

very sad....and his monster of a father killed him with a chokehold...so this poor kid had to wake up at some point and see his dad.....

I guess that stress combined with steroid rage led to the horrific event
Pussah2
i think the chokehold was the most painless way he could do it to him that he thought of

If this kid would have lived 10 more yrs, he could have become a wackpacker.

GDI you Benoit.

Apparently he had Fragile X Syndrome. I have a cousin with this condition, and he is fully mentally disabled. My aunt and uncle tried desperately to care for him at home for years, until finally at age 10 they found him a fulltime care facility. He lives there all week and comes home on the weekends and they go visit him almost daily. He is now 22 and Sesame Street is still his favorite show. He's barely verbal and has a classically retarded appearance. He's been called a "retard" by more than one person in his life.

And before you ask, I have no idea about his package. I've never seen it. I just talk to him and show him love when I get to see him.

Like many have said he had Fragile X syndrome. Apparently there was a huge disagreement between Chris and his wife on how to care for the child, as well as what the next steps were for schooling. They said she spoke w/ their family doctor Thursday, and Chris visited the doctor Friday morning. After he left the doctor he went home and apparently proceeded w/ what he did. It would blow my mind if all this is about their disagreements over their child.

Exactly. Retarded or not - that poor kid was being smothered by his daddy, the same person who was supposed to love & protect him. I hope to hell that poor kid didn't see who killed him. My take on the whole thing is that you can't blame it entirely on the roids . What he did was very calculated. He tied the wife up, strangled her. Then put a bible next to her dead body. He waited another day. Watched wrestling w/his son. Put the son to bed. Smothered the son. Put a bible next to him. Then he was sending text messages to people from WWE. "My address is....." "Dogs are contained in yard...." Shit like that.
He knew what he was doing. There was no "rage" here. Calculated & sinister. Took his time. That's all. He was one sick motherfucker .
hindsight20/20
Retardation and autism are different diagnoses, but can happen together. The functioning level of someone with fragile X (causes the retardation) can vary...some people are very high functioning and can live with minimal assistance, while others are more impaired...being dually diagnosed (ie autism) makes life more difficult.

I think Benoit was mentally challenged.

According to Wiki, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fragile_X_Syndrome, Fragile X Syndrome is carried by the mother. Fathers with the gene can't pass it on to their sons, but mothers can.

Maybe he blamed her for his son being this way and that's why he killed her.

Regardless of the reason, it was cold, calculated, and just plain sad.

Two more pieces not yet explained:

1) why did he bind her hands and feet?

2) why was she wrapped up in a towel?

Possibly, if he bound her hands and feet post-mortem, could have been planning to hide the body, by wrapping her up in the towel?

How can the police be sure that the binding was pre-mortem, if he did the binding just minutes after he killed her?
Devil_Dog_Dre
That's fucked up if his son was mentally challenged. I have a younger brother who's autistic i couldn't imagine someone taking someone's life like that. Fucking Benoit should of been put through more tables

Now obviously Benoit was a jacked guy, but from what I remember his wife wasn't a weak lady. They said there was blood under her head showing the possibility there was a struggle. If this all was over the son's condition and how to handle it, maybe he had it out for her. They've said that the son's condition and how to care for him created a huge divide between father and mother. Maybe he tied her up, then strangled her.
ricky
Nancy was a small woman in all photos. And Benoit was powerful. Just asking because she was wrapped in a towel.

Why wrap her in a towel? That's why I was wondering if he had plans to hide the body.
ricky
I don't think Nancy ever wrestled. Just acted as a valet.
Swine_Christ
I was under the impression that his son suffered from "Dwarfism" as well as mental retardation :(

Thats a pointless existence, nobody should suffer and waste their time raising a fragile X.

It could have been worse than having a Fragile X kid. He could have had a fat, mentally challenged daughter who can't sing or dance but spends millions being an MTV star.

I think they can tell from the brusing. Blood collects under the skin surface. If she was deal already the blood would not have collected since it wouldn't have been pumping. I thin they got in a fight/struggle. He tied her up until he decided to kill her, and put the towel over her face so he didn't have to look at what he had done.

I stand by my first comment: you're effin' heartless. And ignorant. And offensive. I hope you never have a disabled child - not for your sake, but for the child's.

If it was in fact a "Chokehold", he'd be BEHIND the son in order to apply it so the son never would have seen him.

Are you a child? This was the statement: "He is now 22 and Sesame Street is still his favorite show. He's barely verbal."

Thats why he was put in a home, because the hard work to raise him wasn't worth the effort.

Are you inhuman? Unless this is your child; unless you raised him and made the decision to move him to "a home", you cannot judge the worthiness of any part of it. You certainly can't speak for his parents.

His parents lasted 10 years and then put him in a home. I understand them. You don't. Thats why you would struggle for years, only *disabled*, *handicapped* and you have *heart*, and then you would break. Just like Chris Benoit broke.

Is that right? You can speak for me, too, now? You're an idiot. You have NO idea what you're talking about. I'm not wasting any more time trying to humanize you.

You are officially both a complete idiot and morally bankrupt.

They did not choose to put him in a group home because raising him "wasn't worth the effort". They did so because they had to. Their older son was struggling through life because of the huge amount of attention and time required to raise J. They both had to work in order to afford his medical care and their home, so he had to have a full-time nurse there to care for him if there were non-school hours when he was home. Having him in a setting where not only is he cared for by a STAFF of people--not two exhausted parents, a very expensive private-duty nurse, and a bitter teenager--but his medical needs can be met at a moment's notice. The facility was only a few miles from their house, so they see him several times during the week and bring him home on weekends. They chose the path that was best for every member of the family--they didn't *dump* him because he "wasn't worth the effort".

I can only assume you don't have kids. And if you do, I pray for their sake that nothing tragic ever leaves them disabled with you in charge of their care since I'm sure it wouldn't be "worth the effort".

No one *has* to do anything. They did so because they wanted to make their lives easier, because they agree with me.
