Is anybody going to watch Human Weapon this weekend? It looks like a cool MMA spinoff where a guy travels around the world and challenges different styles of fighters one on one.

I saw the preview, but don't remember where. What day and time?
zanks
history channel on July 20. It might be fun to watch.

Thanks, I'll check it out. Thanks for filling in the gaps too. I had forgotten to ask what channel. :erm:

It stars mediocre MMA fighter, Jason Chambers. He almost fought in the UFC once but pulled out of the fight. Mainly a grappler.

Looks like he decided to find a new line of work after only winning one of his last 6 fights.

Sounds like he is going to go around the world getting his ass kicked. :box:

I saw they were doing muay thai. If he fights a legit pro thai fighter he will get lit up. He can grapple with most judo, aikido or whatever traditional grappling arts he faces.

It was pretty legit. Chambers fought, in an exhibition, a guy who was a champion only a couple of years ago, Yodaccha Sityotong. They didn't do some TV bullshit and fight a 40 year old fat cab driver. Sityotong camp has produced some greats like Nuarthoranee and the Payakaroon brothers who also were pretty good boxers.

I watched two episodes last night. At the end of both shows nobody wanted to fight the big dude that used to play in the NFL.

They don't really have Thai fighters over 170 lbs. Funny he didn't notice there aren't people in Thailand near his size.

I've been meaning to watch it, but more so just for the informational aspect (that is, history & info about whatever fighting style they're covering that week). I'm not really interested in seeing some washed up MMA fighter with no real experience in that fighting style try to take on a pro ____ (insert fighting style) fighter.
The History Channel usually does a real good job with their shows. I personally have really liked their show "Dogfights", which chronicles a different air-to-air engagement each week.

I just got caught up with episode 2. Pretty good shit. My girl is from the main island they were training on (Cebu). She's been trying to get me to go with her back home for a while now.. I think I'll take her up on it now. See if I can get some Escrima in.
They're going to Japan for some good old fashioned Karate next episode.

I thought the first two shows were pretty good, but I think it's funny that they think they even have a chance at the end, when they fight someone that's a champion in the particular discipline. I'll be interested to see if they show the bruises and such that Chambers just got in his Escrima stick fight, so we can see how much of a beating he took. It looked like he got whacked pretty good, more than a few times.

Karate in Okinawa, Japan was good. Next week they will be doing Savate in France! I'm hyped up for this one. Seriously one of the most underrated martial arts out there. Check this shit out:
looks like muay thai without the clinch and knees.
jetdog
Eminem has the most irritating voice ever. And those kicks look like poorly executed TKD kicks.

A properly trained Savateur would kick the shit out of your average TKD blackbelt, though, IMO. Any art that stresses full contact and doesn't stop after a point is scored>other arts.

Don't confuse sport TKD with the traditional martial art. Also remember, the specific martial artist is more important than the specific martial art.

Hey Injun, I took Kali/Escrima here in Houston for ~2yrs. If you look in your area, there might be a Filipino Martial Arts school nearby. Sparring with sticks/weapons is pretty intense. I'd come home with bruises that freaked out my wife big time. :D
