MONESSEN - A Monessen High School art teacher who participated in a racy date with an Internet porn star has resigned.
Jaison Biagini, a 14-year-teacher at the middle/high school, submitted his resignation for "retirement purposes" last week to school district officials.
The school board accepted his resignation at a Tuesday night meeting.
Super-intendent Dr. Cynthia Chel-en declined to comment on Biagini's decision.
Last month, Biagini won an all-expenses-paid trip to Tampa, Fla., after entering a contest sponsored by the "Bubba the Love Sponge" satellite radio show. The prize was a date with the porn star Akira. The date was videotaped.
The show appears daily on Sirius satellite radio, a subscription-only radio service that is not regulated by the Federal Communications Commission.
Biagini says he entered the contest for a chance to win a free trip, have fun and visit the Salvador Dali Museum in St. Petersburg.
He described the date as being "all fake and staged." Upon his return, he expressed dismay, claiming he was depicted in an offensive way and ridiculed for being handicapped.
During a telephone interview following his return home from Florida, Biagini said he was "severely offended when I realized how I was being portrayed" by hosts of the show. He also expressed concern about his status as a teacher.
During subsequent tapings of the program, the show's hosts chastised Biagini, claiming he knew the nature of the contest and, purportedly, e-mailed them when he wasn't originally chosen to win the contest.
According to the state Public School Code, a teacher's job can be terminated for such reasons as "immorality, incompetency, cruelty, persistent negligence, mental derangement, advocation of, or participating in un-American or subversive doctrines and persistent and willful violation of the school laws of the state."
Chelen said the board voted to accept the resignation last night - instead of waiting for next Tuesday's regular public meeting - so the district can place advertisements for Biagini's replacement.
Biagini could not be reached for comment.
In other business, the board hired Eric Miller as a middle school math teacher on the first step of the bachelor's degree salary schedule at $32,040 annually.
The board will meet at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday at the high school because a paving project is being conducted at the elementary center.

I doubt he has one against Bubba since he entered the contest knowing what it was about.
He resigned, didn't get fired. If he got fired he may have a lawsuit against the school. But who knows. That guy was creepy. |

I'm sure he can find something under which to sue Bubba for, but I see no way he could win any such lawsuit. He entered the contest fully knowing what it entailed and that a follow-up interview following the date would take place live on the air. He was also aware of the "conduct policy" -- ridiculous and invasive as a lot of it sounds.
