While one would assume that Islamist Iideology and neo-Communist Ideology (i.e. Socialims w/o the voting) would be at the opposite ends of a political spectrum...
With Chavez and Amadjihad meetings in a Venezualisn Lovefest, one has to consider that there is a lot of room for the irrelegious Left and the Super Religious Right to see one common goal the destruction of Western Free Market Democracies (or as the two groups would see it - hedonistic kapitalism)
I have always maintained that Socialism/Communism was a "secular religion" (where "god" is replaced my "man" but every bit as dogmatic as any institutionalized religion.) so there is some commmon ground for the two groups in their belief that the "masses" are "too ignorant" to know what's good for them, so democracy is really unncessary, once their own respective Ideologies are in place.
And, neither can exists so long as Western Democratic Free Market societies continue to deliver more goods and servivces to the masses than any other form of government (in Histrory) so not being able to compete - they must undermine and destroy this status quo before they can assert themsleves.
But there is little doubt that - once established (or, actually, re-established in Historical terms) they, in and of themselves, are at the opposite ends of How To Dominate and Rule a people.
Of course, this wouldn't be the 1st time in History that two opposing Ideologies collaborated against a common enemy (US) - the fascists of Nazi Germany and Bolshevics of the Soviet Onion held ther noses and agreed to dis-agree in a treaty - to first defeat the Western Democracies....
Of course, that only lasted long enuff for the fascists to realize they weren't gonna invade England anytime in their Third Reich.
This time I would hazard a guess that the Islamists would be the first to throw the Neo-Comms under the bus (and then blow it up) simply because Neo-Comms are - by definition - athiests and there is NOTHING WORSE in the mind of an Islamist than a person who does not believe... in anything.

Of course, it was interesting how Prez Amadjihad drew a line in the Western Liberal vs Leftist Academia...
Aside from scoring a coup for his own audience in the Muslim world, he did help the Liberal vs Left in American question their own affiliation. At first the American Liberal/Left was united under the principal that Amadjihad should speak (because they were hoping that he would bash Bush with the same vitriolic hatred that they do...) but he went the step forward of making sure they knew what Islamists stand for...
No Homosexuals
No Jews in Palestine
and Women treated as patronized patsys - barefoot and pregnant, as God intended them...
Suddely Liberals realized, "Hey, these Islamists may actually BE worse than Christians... because they are fucking nuts and could very well punish the wicked by nuking 'em!"
While Lefties were all that bothered by Islamist rhetoric. Afterall, aside from giving women and fair chance to serve in their armies - who persecuted the Jews and Homosexuals with more gusto that the Soviet Union???
There's just that issue with "god" having being the opiate for the masses when ever Neo-Communist KNOWS that Man can be the opiate for the masses... which is why ALL Communist Regimes needed a Cult Figure; Stalin, Mao, Kim Il, Castro and Chavez to give them spriritual substitute for "god"
