USC lost to Stanford and play a cupcake schedule. OSU only lost one game.
Pussah2
If USC plays a cupcake schedule, OSU plays a marshmellow schedule. best team they played was Michigan and they suck this year

I'm fine with LSU and OSU even though it doesn't excite me at all. No team stepped up this year to clearly get that shot at #1 so I guess LSU and OSU are as good a choice as any. But, without a playoff system it's always a a letdown in my book, because you know a playoff would be far more interesting and exciting to follow than the current set-up. For example, a team like USC, which doesn't deserve to play in the title game because they lost to Stanford, would likely have a good chance to win a playoff system. I just hope a playoff system is instituted in my lifetime. It would be the premier sporting event of the year, right up there with the Super Bowl and World Series.

Of course we need a playoff. But that's not the argument. LSU vs. OSU???

This thread was a lot better before they made the selections. Damn.

My argument is that LSU vs. OSU is as good a match up as any based on the criteria they use to make the selections. While I think a WVU/Oklahoma match up or USC/LSU match up would be more compelling, I can't argue that USC or WVU deserve a shot.

people are gonna be less likely to go out on a limb, post with their heart now that the games are locked in.

what about georgia? they have as much say as USC.

LSU and Oklahoma.

LSU beat 6 Top 25 ranked teams and both of their losses were in triple OT.

Oklahoma lost to Colorado, but that was on the road and a late FG gave Colorado the win. Their other loss was at Texas Tech where they lost their QB Bradford in the first quarter and they would have probably won if he didn't get hurt. Then last week they beat the #1 team in nation on a neutral field and dominated the whole game.

LSU will destroy Ohio St. in the title game and it won't be a good game.

Holy shit Lenny. That is the best picture ever! You da man!

By the way Oklahoma should be in the NC game. They are clearly the best team right now!
SleepingWarrior
If they don't institute a playoff system they at least need to put in a rule that says if only 1 or 2 teams in college football go undefeated throughout the season then they gain automatic entry into the title game.

There will NEVER be a playoff system.

Best option is to keep the current system but add another BCS game a week later and make that the true championship game.

They might do the BCS +1 game.

There will never be a playoff system because of the $$. They would actually make less $$ by going to a playoff system. As we know, they only give a shit about the $$$ not the fans or anything else.

this is not an argument but read sports illustrated this week. They said there should be an 8 team playoff but the Rose bowl is the biggest reason for no playoff
KingOfAllWhites
I agree there SHOULD be a playoff but there wont be.

A) They will make less $$
B)Logistically it is almost impossible to figure out.

Do you play the game at neutral stadiums? If so, fans are not going to travel every week for a month to see their teams in the playoffs.

If they play the games at home, somebody is going to have a huge homefield advantage.

Forget about putting all the travel details in there. Playoffs are a logistical nightmare and they make less $$. For them, it makes no sense.
Pussah2
they said the BCS bowls would host the playoff games and than alternate the national championship.

theyw ould be seeded by BCS rankings.

That is the biggest problem the rose bowl has is the seeding of the teams
KingOfAllWhites
Problem is those stadiums are going to be empty.

Fans of the big college football teams( LSU, Ohio State, Michigan, etc) are not going to travel to all these bowl games for 4 consecutive weekends. Especially when they think there is a good chance they go all the way to the finals? Why are they going to spend thousands of dollars to travel across the country for a first round playoff game?

Therefore, the $$ will be alot less and the idea will go out the window.
Pussah2
just read the article. cant find si articles online. its in the brett favre sportsman of the year issue
KingOfAllWhites
just tell me this...did they address what I am talking about? With fans not traveling for 4 straight weekend? Therefore them taking a big hit in the wallet!
Pussah2
they said it would actually be as big or bigger than march madness. Ill skim through it again and put the main points
KingOfAllWhites

Just tell me if it addresses the fact that fans of the major teams are not going to travel for 4 consecutive weekends, crossing the country on airplane, paying for tickets and hotels and food, etc.

If they dont address it, the whole argument goes out the window. If they do address is then I am curious to see what they say. There could be a way around it, I just have not heard it yet.
Pussah2
dont remember them mentioning it but they did mention travel. Forgot what they said though
KingOfAllWhites
try to find the article if you can..curious to read it
Pussah2
just found it

Very long so here is the link

http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/20...s.scenerio1210/
KingOfAllWhites
nice ill take a look at it later pussy
Pussah2
nope they did not mention losing money to travel
KingOfAllWhites
well I think the travel argument I made makes the whole theory go out the window.

But I will give it a read.
LennyD23
jesus, it's so easy... you have conferences... and conference championships... the last two weeks of conference play is dedicated to the best 4 teams in the conference to do a kind of playoff. the winner of the conference championship in the main conferences move on to the preliminary round of the bcs playoff. the mid-major conferences have to play play-in rounds to play the lowest seeds in the first round. 8-12 teams. all out of conference play is almost done away with.

but the ncaa can't wrap their head around this concept.
LennyD23
oh, and whites... you're right about the money. :kaching:

and the players themselves, old and new prefer the bowl game system. they love it, until they're not in the NC game. gift bags, per diems, parades, free shit, etc.... fanfare. they're bought, and that's why they buy into it. corporate sponsorship rules.
Kayotic1
Why not just go back to an 11 game schedule? That would cut a game out and go to a playoff system.
LennyD23

sure, but make the incorporate the conference play directly into the playoff system so nobody can complain about missing the cut or conference misrepresentation/undefeated 1-loss mid majors missing the cut.
