i had to look it up myself. his full name is David Américo Ortiz Arias, but after he was traded to the Twins he wanted to be known as David Ortiz. |

yeah his first game with the Twins after being called up from the minors wasn't until September 1997. so i'm sure he was already using Ortiz has his last name by that time. |

He was originally signed by the Seattle Mariners. They listed him as David Arias (his mother's name). They mistakenly put his visa and everything else thru MLB as Arias when his real name was David Ortiz Arias and he went by David Ortiz. |
