Alonzo Mourning tore the patella tendon in his right knee in the first quarter on Wednesday night, likely ending his NBA career.

Mourning had already said this would be his last season and it would be shocking if he attempted to come back from this. He had a great career and will be missed, if he has played his final game. The Heat are one Shaquille O'Neal injury away from Mark Blount becoming the starting center in Miami. Just something to think about.

Im not going to pretend to know all the details about $$, but the way I saw it, he signed there and had his kidney problems, which they were aware of and risked it, then they got rid of him for Vince Carter, who I would bet has generated more than enough money to cover whatever they "lost" with mourning and will continue to do so for years. They are far better off now then if Mourning stayed healthy and remained with them.

If anyone should be pissed it should be toronto, not the nets.

They did not get rid of him. He forced the team to trade him!!

The Nets were the ONLY team willing to give him a deal, because he claimed he was healthy enough to play. Then why the team was not assembled how he liked, he took his basketball and went home. Like a classic piece of shit!

Here is the wikpedia entry:

As a free agent, in 2003 he signed a four-year contract with the New Jersey Nets. But on November 25, 2003 Mourning retired from the NBA due to complications from his kidney disease. On December 19 of that year he underwent a successful kidney transplant. In 2004, he started practicing with the Nets again, and made the team's regular season roster for a part of his time spent with the Nets in the 2004-05 season. However, he did not play a significant role with the Nets and openly complained to the media that he wanted out of New Jersey, especially after the team traded Kenyon Martin. [1] Mourning was traded to the Toronto Raptors on December 17, 2004. Mourning refused to report to the team and the Raptors were forced to buy out his contract, at a remaining 9 million dollars, on February 11, 2005. Team officials later said that he did not meet the medical conditions to play for the Raptors. [2] [3] Mourning then finished the season with the Miami Heat being paid a second salary, the veteran's minimum

All I wanted to prove was that Alonzo is a POS, not that the Nets are better off or worse off.

The guy is a thief and POS, PERIOD! :D

If someone "stole" my beater I was upside down on, and the insurance paid my off in triple, I would be hard pressed to call my savior a POS. :D

How did the insurance pay off?

Carter was a free agent leaving Toronto anyway!!
