Even with all the shit talking and disagreements on this board, we can all AGREE this is a great story and Everett is an inspiration

ORCHARD PARK, N.Y. -- Buffalo Bills tight end Kevin Everett, who sustained a serious spinal cord injury earlier this season, is planning on attending the team's home finale Sunday, according to a published report.

Weather could be a factor in Everett's attendance, a source close to the Bills told The Buffalo News. Significant snowfall is not expected for Sunday's game but there is a chance for precipitation.

Bills players sounded overjoyed at the prospect of seeing their teammate who was initially paralyzed from the neck down while attempting to tackle Domenik Hixon during a kickoff return in the Bills' season opener against the Denver Broncos on Sept. 9.

"It's giving me chills just being asked about it," punter Brian Moorman told the paper. "I can't imagine what it would be like on game day. I imagine there wouldn't be a dry eye in the house. It would be great to see him, if it works out. If he's not ready, then obviously we don't want him to push himself. But obviously everybody in this locker room would love to see him. He's an inspiration to us all."

"I think it's something our team could use right now, after the disappointment we realized Sunday," safety Coy Wire told the Buffalo News, referring to Buffalo's 8-0 loss to Cleveland that ended the Bills' playoff hopes. "To be able to have one of our teammates who had something so traumatic happen to him, ... none of us can fathom what he has gone through. That hurt us emotionally as a team.

"Whether you try to not think about it or not, it still affects us as a team. To have a guy we've missed greatly be able to come back and be here would be very emotionally gratifying."

Bills general manager Marv Levy said the invitation was extended by Russ Brandon, the team's executive vice president of business operations.

"We're working on it, but we're not positive," Levy told The Associated Press late Wednesday.

Brandon did not immediately return a message.

Attending the game against the New York Giants would mark the latest step in Everett's remarkable recovery.

Hixon, who now plays for the Giants, was told Wednesday that Everett is supposed to attend the game, Hixon's agent, Eric Metz said.

"Nothing formal has been set yet, but I'm sure they'll meet up," Metz said.

Everett had informed his Bills teammates last month that he hoped to attend the game against the Giants.

Eric Armstead, an associate of Everett's agent, Brian Overstreet, declined comment.

Released last month from a Houston facility, Everett is walking on his own and continues to attend daily rehab sessions as an outpatient.

Bills coach Dick Jauron said he didn't know whether Everett would attend the game.

"It would be an unbelievable thing," he said. "To have him back in the facility and to see him walk and then, hopefully, if he does come back, address his teammates, would be great."

Everett's already making other public appearance plans. He's scheduled to be the guest speaker at Port Arthur Memorial High School's football banquet on Jan. 10, said Kenny Harrison, the school's offensive coordinator who coached Everett in high school.

The Associated Press contributed to this report.

here is from hixon's side and how fucked up he is about it

Months later, Everett play haunts Hixon

Domenik Hixon still wonders what would have happened had he just moved in another direction or even slipped a second before Kevin Everett hit him.

Months after Everett suffered life-threatening neck and spinal injuries while tackling him on a second-half kickoff during a Broncos-Bills game on Sept. 9, Hixon couldn't stop thinking about Everett.

Even though it was Everett who hit him and not the other way around, Hixon couldn't shake the fact that he was involved in a play that could have nearly ended Everett's life or left the tight end paralyzed.

"There have been many times (on kickoffs) a guy will be there and I will slip away from him and I was like, 'Why not that time?'" Hixon said yesterday by telephone. "A lot of things went through my head. After that, to be honest with you, I was real tentative (on returns). You don't want to be involved in a situation like that regardless if it's your fault or not. His life was supposed to be changed forever. They said he wasn't supposed to walk. If you could put yourself in my shoes, you don't want to be a part of such a negative aspect. It was devastating."

On Sunday, Hixon returns to Buffalo with the Giants for the first time since the jarring collision. Everett, who made a stunning recovery and recently began walking again, also reportedly could be attending his first Bills game since he was taken off the field in an ambulance. The Bills have no comment on whether Everett will be there.

For Hixon, it will be an emotional day. He will have flashbacks of the hardest hit he had ever absorbed which left him initially dazed. In many ways, he's still feeling the impact from the collision that has changed his outlook on life. Hixon thinks of Everett almost daily from the moment he wakes up. "Just getting up in the morning and being able to do things on my own and not be dependent on somebody and walking and running," Hixon said. "It is a blessing to be out there."

Hixon isn't sure whether his tentativeness led to his release from the Broncos on Oct. 2 after returning 12 kickoffs for 274 yards in four games. Shortly after joining the Giants, Hixon reached out to Sinorice Moss, who is good friends with Everett as the two had their lockers next to each other at the University of Miami.

"I know it was pretty tough on Domenik being the guy who made the contact with Kevin," Moss said. "I could see it in his eyes that he was really concerned. I'm sure it was very terrifying for Domenik to actually go through that whole process. It really scares you and tends to make you not want to make a tackle or be hit by anyone. You tend to have flashbacks."

Hixon said he will get emotional if he finally meets Everett. "I don't know how I will react," Hixon said. "It would be like closure. Seeing him progress gives me a better feeling about a lot of what happened."

This is a great story. I never like to see anyone hurt, especially when it involves a former U player. I'm glad it looks like (for the most part) he will be ok.
