Man, I'm so pumped for this fight. I've been hoping for it for 5 years.
Wanderlei using Sandstorm was awesome. |

| What an awesome staredown! |

I give Round 1 to Chuck. That first exchange was just surreal.
Wandy was dominating the first 4 mins of Round 2, but then Chuck landed a huge elbow that ripped him open and a takedown. I think I might give it to Wandy, but it's arguable either way. |

Chuck dominates the 3rd Round and definitely deserves the decision.
Where are the knees, Wandy??? |

| I thought this Wanderlei guy was supposed to be some big cheese? All I've seen him do now is lose his 2 UFC fights. |

he "was" - he beat rampage twice and won all of the big pride tournaments. he is coming off losses to a heavyweight and Dan Henderson though. similar to Chuck coming off of 2 losses. i think they're both washed up - Chuck is just a little less washed up :) |

I think its being pretty much shown that PRIDE has been vastly overrated. |

that's one way to look at it - another is that the rules are different and the rounds are only half as long. some people are better suited for that type of fight. |

Yeah, Rampage and Anderson Silva haven't had much success. Oh wait... |
|
|
| Matt Serra |
Machida (sp?) exposed another Huston Alexander.
Eddie Sanchez? Why are we watching bums like this fight?
Silva v. Lidell: Silva can not compete without the roids.
GSP v. Hughes, Damn GSP is awesome. |

Great Fights!!
Nice Comeback by Chuck, he is back in the mix...
GSP Hghes was a nice fight!!
GSP vs Serra 2 ;)
Nice thing for good guy Serra even if he loses to GSP, he has another PPV fighting Hughes. |

Did anyone else catch Takanori Gomi in the audience? He was in the same row as Tito and Jenna. I hope he's in town to talk about signing with the UFC.
Overall a good PPV. GSP is improving so rapidly it's frightening. I though Wandy looked good too. Styles make fights and you could not hand pick a worse opponent for him than a counter puncher with a reach advantage like Chuck. I would LOVE to see Wandy in a rematch with Tito. |

Fingers crossed for Gomi singing with the UFC!!
I'd love to see Wandy and Tito again too!! The LHW division is so stacked now that the matchup possibilities are limitless.
In my opinion GSP is the best pound for pound fighter around right now. I like Serra but GSP is going to destroy him when they finally rematch. I have a feeling that GSP is going to rule that division for years to come. |

The most impressive fight of the night was GSP's. Wow! Does anybody in ww have a chance against gsp? Matt Hughes is still considered to be in his prime for a fighter. He's only 34. But GSP has got him to want to quit the game. That's quite an accomplishement.
I know, I know what about Serra. When Serra's back gets better GSP will put an end to Serra's nearly 1 year run as welter weight champ. I hope that Dana learned something from this and will not freeze a division title again because of TUF.
GSP's only challenge may be at middle weight against Silva. GSP is a very big ww. He could easily fight at 185, maybe even 205.
What the hell happened to the heavy weight division. Eddie Sanchez?!? Damn that was ugly. 6 months ago everyone was excited by the heavies with Crocop and Big Nog coming in. Now, this is the best the ufc can produce. That was painfully bad.
Chuck v. Vandy: both guys are over the hill. Vandy has shown that he can not win without the juice. Vandy and Roger Clemens should put out an off season training book. Chapter 1. Winstrol. Chapter 2. HGH, Chapter 3. Stacking, Chaper 4. Cycling, you get the picture. |

Another way to look at it is that Pride does not test for Steroids. UFC does. That may have changed as of late, but was the case befor UFC bought Pride. |

Pride started testing when they held their first fight in California. That's when Vanderlai lost to little Dan Henderson. That was Pride's last show. |

I still have some hope for him but he has to gameplan for specific opponents more. His slip, wade in and flurry style failed against a cautious counter-puncher like Chuck but would work great against Tito who covers up and either stands still or backs straight up when he's hit with anything significant. Again, styles make fights.
As far as the Chuck vs. Wandy fight goes, I hate to say it, but I agree with Joe Rogan. Not enough leg kicks by Silva. If you are giving up reach and fighting a guy who wants to keep it standing, why not kick? Wandy is a BJJ blackbelt - would he be any worse off fighting off his back than fighting on his feet with a stronger striker with reach in his favor? |

| would steroids make such a big deal when you can take hgh? Is silva a known roid-head?? I never heard this.. well I just got into ufc 2 years ago, didnt know much about pride/silva.. whats the back story? |

| In my opinion Silva didn't fight his style of fight he fought Chuck's style. If he would of used more kicks and knees the fight might have went a different way. |

Vanderlai Silva made his bones in the Japanese Pride organization. Pride did not test for roids. As far as I know, Silva has never admitted to using roids. But just look at his physique when he was fighting in Japan compared to the US. In Japan, Vandy was huge, probably 15% more muscle than now. He looks muscular now, but nothing like Pride.
It is true that he's been through hell in the last few fights. Cro Cop almost tore Vandy's head off with a head kick in the Pride open weight grand prix. Then Dan Henderson beat the shit out of Vandy in the last Pride U.S. show (which did test for drugs).
Since Pride shut down after being purchased by the ufc, some markee Pride fighters have come to the ufc and sucked. In my opinion, drug testing has played a big role in this.
Vandy's Chute Box team mate Shogun Rua was considered the best light heavy in the world after Vandy. His one loss was to heavy weight Mark Coleman and that was because Shogun broke his arm in a fall. Now Shogun comes to the UFC and he gets handled and choked out by journeyman Forrest Griffin.
Roids? |
