So far the Tigers have

Re-signed Kenny Rogers

Signed: Edgar Renteria

Traded for: Miguel Cabrera, Dontrelle Willis

I give these moves an A- only because Cabrera is overweight, Willis had a mediocre year, and Renteria has been kicked around a little. Otherwise these are awesome moves because these three players will be awesome next year regardless of what I mentioned above!

Add to: Ivan Rodriguez, Magglio Ordonez, Carlos Guillen (moving to 1b), Gary Sheffield, Jaque Jones, Curtis Granderson,

Bonderman, Verlander and Robertson are no joke either, but Rogers and Willis will be #1 and #2

The only hole I see is the injury prone Zumaya, and the need for more bullpen help.

Do the Tigers need one more bullpen man, and a new closer?

Any thoughts on the Detroit Tigers are appreciated...

Detroit is going to be very good this year.

Brandon Inge has nowhere to go: any suggestions what to do with him?

P.S. Otto02 is a troll who stalks me on this message board and comments on everything I say. Get a life.

Inge is a great utility guy off the bench, that guy can play anywhere. To me thats an asset for the team as long as he knows his role this year. And see ya later Sean Casey it's really is sad when ur ss or 2nd basemen get more dingers than a 1st basemen.

1. Granderson
2. Polanco
3. Miggy
4. Mags
5. the Chef
6. Guillen
7. Rayburn (possibly)
8. Renteria
9. Pudge

Dam! what a potential lineup

Brandon Inge is a monster at 3rd. I'll miss his defensive skills very much. But we upgraded, so...:cheer:

If Dontrelle Willis is your #4 or #5, you are in great shape

Willis will get lit up in the AL next year. Every good pitcher form the NL needs at least one year to adjust to adjust to AL hitters.

He had a flat out awful shitty year last year. 5.17 ERA?? 1.60 WHIP?? He blew goats and will get lit up by the hard hitting AL.

However, your offense should bail him out more often then the marlins did though. That offense is scary good.

I would be worried about Bonderman too. He had a 5.01 era last year and robertson got lit up too. I wouldnt hope that rogers will pitch like he did in 06.

Det had one of the worst bullpens last year.

They will win more games then last year, but Clev is still the team to beat.

Fuck all that. He has to win those two first. When he was on Florida, Dontrelle Willis was a better pitcher. Beckett just matured. The same as Willis will do. Dont forget that Rogers pulled off HOF performances the year before in the playoffs before an injury plagued season last year. Ill take Rogers in a game seven over Beckett.
Badhandhaney
I think Willis will achieve for Leyland, he seems to get the best out of young talent. He also doesn't have to be the face of the franchise, and can comfortably relax among all the other all stars, not having to put the team on his back. I see him benefitting from the leadership on that team, not to mention Pudge calling his games! ANOTHER factor is his new financial security, the guy is FINALLY getting paid! His record in World Series and inter-league is pretty damn good, but I DO see an adjustment period coming against furious AL bats!

I would'nt take anyone in any playoff game vs. Beckett. You're fuckin' crazy. When all is said & done Beckett will go down as one of the greatest postseason pitchers of this or any era. What the fuck are you smokin' & where can I get some?

If & when that game 7 happens I'll bet the house, with you, on the Sox & Beckett.

Check the numbers, Willis' last 3 seasons have been progressively worse. Not saying he won't get better but he's not Beckett.

Badhandhaney
There is plenty of room for Red Sox talk over on a Red Sox thread. GO MAKE ONE.

Anyway, does anyone know when Zumaya is expected to be back? This guy was SICK, then he hurts himself playing guitar hero? Then his tendon EXPLODES in his finger? Now he has torn his labrum AND rotator cuff carrying boxes? Is this guy the new Ken Griffey Junior? Seriously the only sob story like this is Duaner Sanchez. The Tigers will need to trade Brandon inge and try to get some kids with low salaries to help in the bullpen/closer. Zumaya may NEVER be the same, and you don't put a team like this together and then neglect the bullpen (unless you are Brian Cashman).

Tell that to Bill Buckner! But I agree the game is built on pitching and hitting. defense is usually something you reserve for shortstop and centerfield but it IS important. I think sometimes these guys make it look easy, and with merely average defense with one or two gold glovers teams are fine.

In the playoffs pitching & defense trumps all. Never changes.
otto02
The Rockies & Redsox were 1st & 3rd in fielding in '07. Defense matters in EVERY sport.

Manny actually plays a decent left in Fenway. That fat fuck Cabrera at third? You'll see. It's not called the hot corner for nothing. Ask A-fraud about fielding in the postseason & how important it can be.

How many posts will it take you to respond?

Not every team has a gold glover at every position.

Respond to what? Rockies led the league in fielding, Redsox were third. Who was in the series this past year?

Don't take it the wrong way man. I am anything BUT bitchy, but I simply want to keep the thread on topic. Can you respect that? When I'm in a Mets thread and it is 90% angry Phillies fans posting nonsense, and no constructive Mets talk, I just abandon it. I REALLY don't want to see the same thing happen with the Tigers thread, so you don't see ME making it all about how the Yanks are better than the Tigers. It should be AT LEAST 50% Tigers talk, and their implications on other teams. Keep up the great pics of your wife, and I'll see you at Fenway when the Tigers come to town. I went last year and had a great time!

Can't wait for Opening Day.
They should have the most potent lineup in the majors, but my biggest concerns are catcher and the bullpen. Pudge is way past his prime, and he was just awful defensively last year. Todd Jones as the closer is a nightmare, and it seems that Zumaya's shoulder injury is very serious.
Dettiger
They should have a fun team to watch this year, I can't wait for the normal opening day. GO GET'EM TIGERS!festivities. :nixon: :harris: :mebeer: :munch: :drunk: :band:

Who will the Tigers trade Inge for? And do you see any more free agent signings coming?

I doubt they'll be able to get much for Inge, especially with his $6M/season contract. He made some great plays at third, but also booted a lot of balls, and is way too streaky at the plate.
I'm not sure there is much help available in the free agent market at their biggest needs areas - catcher and bullpen.
Badhandhaney
I just heard the "That ain't gonna happen here anymore" speech Leyland gave in 2006! I got chills.
Badhandhaney
Jon Paul Morosi of the Detroit Free Pess had a few things to say today:

Miguel Cabrera will be looking for a 10 year 200 million dollar deal in two years when he reaches free agency.

The Tigers will probably begin negotiations at 6 years 100 million.

He wouldn't be surprised if both Brandon Inge AND Marcus Thames are on the roster opening day.

With Vance Wilson uncertain, Inge may be expected to play some games behind the plate.

Thames could get some DH time on Gary Sheffield's days off.

*****Any thoughts on what the Tigers should do with Inge/Thames, and who they should try to acquire in trades ?

I saw Edgar Renteria in the grocery store in Miami Beach the other day. He seem pretty surprised when I said hello.

What? You don't believe me? He was driving a white Range Rover. I didn't ask for a pic.

Someone has to catch on Sundays.

Pudge won't catch one Sunday game this year.

Will his knees even hold up after all this time at Third? I mean he will need to have some kind of conditioning program. He's not a catcher anymore, but his bat is awesome for a backup catcher, and I suppose he can DH on Sheff's days off, and play 3rd for fatboy once in a while.

Inge is one hell of a backup-backstop/extra infielder/bench player

Someone is going to get hurt during the season, and Inge can play any position.

Inge will end up starting a bunch of games I bet. He is very valuable to the Tigers.
Badhandhaney
Well, Spring training has begun and the Tigers don't seem to have an REAL options in the bullpen or for a lights out closer.

Are The Tigers trying too field an all offense Yankees/Phillies style team?

It may lead them back to the playoffs, but it wont get them past the first round when they run into some teams with SERIOUS pitching.

Would you rather have a good bat off the bench of a team LOADED with bats, or an average to pretty good RP in what is arguably the worst bullpen in the AL?

As a matter of who, thats Dombrowski's job to shop Inge. I could think of 10 or 20 arms I would like to see in a Tiger uniform
