Mostly, it has to do with tracking done by the host site. If it was a straight link to the http address, they'd(site your going to) would know where your coming from, when you see the hxxp or hbbp address and you have to change it yourself, to the host site, it looks like your coming from nowhere.
Seen alot of model sites close down groups, etc because they were able to track back to who was giving out free stuff to their paysites that way. |

I guess that would make some sort of sense if it were a link you were posting but in forums like this dont you have to specifically insert a link with the http button? If you just paste a web address in the message you cant click on it like a link you still have to cut and paste it web bar
EDIT: My bad. I put in a web address and it did convert it to a link
