Offstage Action at Dem. Debate?
The nasty spat between Hillary Rodham Clinton and Barack Obama last night sure created fireworks, but after the debate attention turned to an offstage encounter, between Clinton and former Sen. John Edwards.
According to eyewitnesses, they both walked out of their green rooms after the debate and agreed to talk, then went behind closed doors in Edwards's green room.
Clinton left 20 minutes later. No word on the subject matter, but as Edwards struggles in the polls with no wins to date, his post-campaign strategy is surely in the air.
"They were catching up, as they tend to do at the events, and probably discussing the even-handed media coverage of the race," quipped Edwards spokesman Eric Schultz.

Now anything could have been talked about behind that closed door - Edwards' wife's health, for example. But if you saw the debate and the cold handshake shared between Edwards and Clinton, you'd know they don't like each other.
My guess - Edwards realizes he has no money and nowhere to go after South Carolina. He can't compete in a 22 state blitz - he doesn't have the cash to buy media time.
So Clinton probably cut a deal with him - "Call off the dogs at the next debate in Los Angeles (end of January, I believe) and join me in smearing Obama. My staff will provide you with the list of lies and falsehoods we have compiled. That way I'll win the nomination, and I couldn't think of a better attorney general than John Edwards."
Again, it's pure speculation, but 20 minutes behind closed doors? Edwards cut a deal with Billary - watch what happens at the next debate. Obama better be ready for the circular firing squad. |

certainly interesting. Edwards remaining in the race at this point is purely egotistical. If he really cares about his ideals, he will endorse Obama and help out Obama (unless, of course, Edwards gets a 30 point bounce from the debate and somehow start winning states - which is something the Edwards camp dont think they can do...not just win South Carolina, but ANY primary). Edwards is not like Ron Paul where his ideas are so completely different than the rest of the nominees there would be nobody for him to support. Obama and Edwards are much closer to each other idealogically than Edwards and Clinton.
I guess well see if Edwards takes the power..or he really does fight for the American People |

John Edwards got 4% in union-laden Nevada - and he is supposed to be the candidate for organized labor and the common man.
To borrow a phrase from Bill Clinton - the idea that John Edwards is a viable candidate is the biggest fairy tale I've ever heard. |

So Ron Paul is more "viable" than Ghouliani, right???

No, he's not.
But I fully admit that Rudy's campaign strategy was bold but, in retrospect, somewhat foolish. No candidate can stay out of the picture during the first 5 primaries and expect to maintain relevancy. I think he got some bad advice from his campaign staff.
But no, the recognized hero on 9/11 is not less "viable" than Ron Paul and his racist literature. |

even his own campaign has said they dont expect to win a single primary...so why remain in the race? |

If Edwards endorses Hillary, it'll be abundantly clear that there was a sleazy deal behind it. Edwards is running as a populist, and supporting a corporatist like Hillary would be ridiculous.
I wish these fucking Democratic voters would open their damned eyes. |
