>Padilla Sentenced to More Than 17 Years in Prison
>By KIRK SEMPLE
>Published: January 22, 2008
>MIAMI — Jose Padilla, the Brooklyn-born convert to Islam who was once accused by the government of plotting to detonate a “dirty bomb” in the United States, was sentenced on Tuesday to 17 years and four months in prison for his role in a conspiracy to help Islamic jihadist fighters abroad.
What EXACTLY did this (plant) do? After his alleged career as "John Doe #2" in the OKC Bombing, I mean?
What is a "dirty bomb"? Radioactive material wrapped around a conventional explosive that would basically make a mess? No government has a "dirty bomb" and no "dirty bomb" has ever been built.
The Feds tweaked Padilla's case to give themselves legal precedents, then withdrew the case from the courts that had given them the rulings they were after. Keep in mind, gentle SFN reader, that Padilla was an American citizen, arrested on American soil, and held without the usual legal rights.
The Feds used this case to undermine the rule of law would be the concise way to put it.
What EXACTLY did Jose do to earn 17 years? Talk about a science fiction plot? He was a useful idiot. |

I guess the judge must be an American hating, terrorist loving liberal or something. Some quotes from the article.
http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/22784470/
Quote: MIAMI - Jose Padilla, once accused of plotting with al-Qaida to blow up a radioactive “dirty bomb,” was sentenced Tuesday to 17 years and four months on terrorism conspiracy charges that don’t mention those initial allegations.
.
.
Cooke said she was giving Padilla some credit — over the objections of federal prosecutors — for his lengthy military detention at a Navy brig in South Carolina. She agreed with defense lawyers that Padilla was subjected to “harsh conditions” and “extreme environmental stresses” while there.
.
.
'No evidence' of carrying out terrorism
But Cooke said that as serious as the conspiracy was, there was no evidence linking the men to specific acts of terrorism anywhere.
.
.
“There is no evidence that these defendants personally maimed, kidnapped or killed anyone in the United States or elsewhere,” she said. |
Wow. All he got was 17 years. There are people in this country who have done more horrible things and received longer sentences.
http://www.usatoday.com/money/indus...file-usat_x.htm
Jeffrey Skilling got 24 years, and while he didn't kill anyone, his company killed itself, along with its employees life savings.
Serial killers have received longers sentences than what Padilla got. |

My bullshit detector is really going off for this one. If this guy was as guilty as originally charged then why hide him for 3-1/2 years. If appealled he should at least win a new trial. If he is guilty of conspiring to harm the US then throw him in jail but at least give him due process first.
| Quote: The key piece of physical evidence was a five-page form Padilla supposedly filled out in July 2000 to attend an al-Qaida training camp in Afghanistan, which would link the other two defendants as well to Osama bin Laden's terrorist organization. |

| It gave me a nice warm feeling when they thwarted the dirty bomb plot. Now I see that it was all government bullsh*t. |

The Café del Mar releases compilation albums with tracks selected by the bar's own DJs. The music selection is intended to induce the mood that is experienced watching a sunset. The tracks are described as ambient, easy listening music. The bar originally sold their own tapes of the music but a series of Café del Mar CDs have been sold. As of 2007, there are 14 volumes, numerous side compilations, plus 2 albums commemorating the 20th and 25th Anniversary. A total of about 9 million albums have been sold worldwide.
The original first six volumes' tracklists were selected by José Padilla, a DJ then commonly found at the Café del Mar. |

Brainwashed douchebag says what? You're being stupid -- as in "exasperating obtuseness" -- Jose Padildo's case is significant because he was an American citizen arrested on American soil for a thought crime --- he did nothing. The Feds used his case to establish bizarre and dangerous legal precedents and then withdrew their case after they'd received the decisions they were after.
Of course, you'd have to have been paying attention to grasp any of that. Which would require some degree of intelligence. Which is why you failed to comprehend what happened and why they bothered with Jose in the first place. |

And furthermore, Douchey, my beef is with the Zionistas and NeoCons who have way too much control over US foreign policy and whom serve Israel instead of the USA. Fuck Zionism and fuck Israel -- that has nothing to do with Jews but you've been brainwashed into thinking that ANY criticism of Jews or Israel is somehow against the law, some kind of thoughtcrime.
Grow a brain, you idiot. |

First tell me you are not of Arab and/or Muslim descent.
Exactly.
Talking to people like you about Israel and the war on terror is like debating the merits of affirmative action with the Klan. What's the point? |
