This guy has been great, but he finally loses.

Saw that on ESPN this morning. Could not believe it.

Maybe he is human after all!
KingOfAllMedia
He didn't want to be in the finals without Nadal.

He is still done so much in his career and has so much left. If this guy stays healthy he will be regarded as one of the best in mens tennis.

Biggest upset in tennis is a long time.

I wonder what the odds were in Vegas.......

You could have won a boatload if you bet Djokovic

It sure has to be one of the biggest upsets in a while.

Vegas has odds for everything, so who knows!! ;)

I went to Melbourne once and that complex is really nice. They have retractable roofs on both of the big arenas. If only Wimbledon would do that!

Let's not write him off just yet ...

Federer lost to Safin a few years ago in the semi's on the same court ...
After that he went on for 3 titles at Wimbledon, 3 US Open titles and 2 Aussie titles ...

Never mind a semi- and 2 finals at Roland Garros ...

Also,
Fed-Ex lost to Djokovic just last summer in Canada in a pretty good match and Djokovic has that kind of game that will give Federer problems ...

My opinion, for what it's worth:
The media loves the fact that Federer had an "average" end of 2007 and wants to sell us on some theory that he is losing ground ...

I'm not buying it ...
He'll win Wimby and tie Sampras' record at Flushing this September ...
All just after he turns 27 ...

By way of comparison, Sampras won his 14th slam title at age 31 ...

I am in agreement with you. Federer should be able to roll and he is far from over. It is scary what this guy can do and he is very young.

Unless someone happens to get real good or Federer gets injured he is going to be considered one of the best in all of mens tennis.

This is exactly what the sport of tennis needed. An upset tends to spice up converstations with non tennis fans, seems to be working.
I am happy for Djokovic, I've read loads of poisitve articles and seen him play a number of times. This young man is going to be good for a long time. I doubt he or anyone else will unthrone Federer as the number one mens player in the world but he does make the siutation very interesting.

Take care,
CD

Nadal started to do that a bit ...

However, from a "marketing standpoint," I think the problem is that the player to challenge Federer isn't an American born player ...
(and I know that the tennis fans in other countries cringe at that statement ...)

Very few players born outside of the U.S. have been able to capture that interest and create a noticeably higher level of interest from casual fans ...

Arguably, Pat Rafter was the last one ...

But I do think Djoko- has that ability to bring fans to tennis ....

Ever see his Sharapova/Nadal/Roddick impressions ???

:D

I absolutely think he will remain at the top of tennis for a while ...

However, I've had a few arguments with other "tennis geeks" who do think Federer will be chased out of tennis prematurely (remember Borg's hasty exit at the hands of Johnny Mac ...)

Their argument is that Federer does not train at the higher levels in his limited down time and doesn't necessarily structure his regimen to save himself for the major events ...

In addition to that argument, Federer goes deep into every tourney he enters ...
which puts him on court for 11 months a year for the duration of each event ...

Sampras complained about that extensively ... saying that the tennis schedule works against the top players so that they might save themselves physically and extend their careers ...

Although this was an upset it was not as big as some would think. Here in Vegas we has Djokovic as the #2 favorite for this tourny and only had Federer as a -320 favorite for this match. Which is much lower than what he usually is. Also, as someone stated previously last year in Canada Djokovic beat Nadal and Federer in consecutive matches. Djokovic is an up an coming force and should be good for a while.

Wow, your right. Only -320?

Normally Federer is in the -1000 range.

I knew Djokovic was a good player, but I did not know how good he was. I never thought he would be able to beat Roger on the hard court. It will be intresting now to see how Roger approaches the US Open in August. I am sure he will be hungry for revenge and could set up a great draw.

How bout the Monte Carlo man? I can not believe it!!

He could retire tomorrow and still be considered one of the greatest all-time players. He's been absolutely dominant.

Yeah the Monte Carlo was crazy. It looks like they handled it fairly well. Good thing it wasn't next week during Super Bowl weekend.

Federer had made 10 straight slam finals, winning 8 of them. That goes back to the 2006 French Open, when he also lost in the semis.
His game was not good yesterday. He lost in straight sets and he was up a break in the first and 3rd sets.
The next major isn't until late May, and Nadal will be a huge favorite to win his 4th straight French Open.
Then Federer goes for a 6th straight Wimbledon, and he'll have tons of pressure on him.
It sets up for an interesting year.
A good looking women's final starts in 2 hours.

I meant 2005 French Open. After that, Federer won 8 of 10 majors until this one
