| It helps for the people who don't think he is a progressive. I think its pretty impressive when a guy can get the support of Daily Kos and MoveOn.Org, and yet also get lots of support from independent groups and even republicans. It shows how big of a landslide he will win by in November if he's the nominee. |

It helps Hillary.
Anyone who would vote based upon a "Progressive" moveon is MAD.
Any Republican who would do so is confused.
The National Government is not supposed to be "Progressive". Play those games in your State. |

Neither of them are going to push a singer payer system, even though Hillary is trying to have it both ways by saying her plan is a path to single payer.
Both plans pay subsidies to those who are uninsured and hopefully those that are truly in the middle, meaning they make too much to qualify for the real single-payer insurance which is medi-care and not enough to afford their own.
This is something that needs to be done. |

I differ with you here. I believe health care is a right in this country. Right now we don't let uninsured people rot and die if they get sick, well almost never. Now, the system just makes more money just because they are uninsured and they end up fucking the government out of more money than had the patient been insured.
The government is already paying, meaning me and you, so there has to be a way to control costs under a common plan. |

It might be the greatest smartest most fantastic thing in the whole world, I don't care. Get a Constitutional Amendment that hands over some power and restrains the rest. Because the national government is gonna take and take power. It's going to grow and grow.
Like everything else.
And the government is going to invent new ways to screw things up. These are politicians we are talking about. Politicians that spend money that does not exist. Look at Social Security.
After Katrina at least we could say, "well, at least they don't control health care". What will we say when they screw that up? "Well at least they don't control... ahh...ahhh, oh I guess they control everything."
The National Government has very specific powers. Powers not given belong to the States and or the citizens of those States. |

Well, how about food. Most people don't need to see a doctor every week but all people need to eat.
How about universal water? We all need to drink everyday. Sure is essential to good health.
How about universal housing? Everyone should have a "right" to proper shelter.
How about universal heat?

Social security is an excellent example, but health care couldn't be managed worse than it is now. I love this vague notion of "big government" and bureaucratic red tape, like the republicans haven't blown it into its current mess. So much for being fiscally conservative.
Ok, lets put asside the human decency benefit of public health care for a second,
if you want success as a country, you need to ensure that healthcare is being provided for all. Its a sound investment that pays off.
Think about it, take a large company like FedEx (Air, Freight, Ground, Special Services, Kinkos) , they have a group plan with Blue Cross of California... they contribute an obscene amount per employee ( you ever see those crack addicts working the grave shift at kinkos :jj: )
All of those employees also pay into the plan. Than FedEx and its employees are taxed for medicade etc on April 15th... its obnoxious and ineficent and benefits no one.
Take a look at this lecture, believe me its worth the 10 minutes. Its all crude data, standard deviations and real unbiased analysis. Most of our world relief abroad has gone to waste, not surprisingly (because Africa will always be a corrupt hell hole).... the only thing that has held up is health care at making a markable difference.

Nonsense. Rights are the freedom to act. The freedom to do what you need to do or want to do. You have the right to buy/grow/produce food, for example. A "right" isn't a claim to force other people to give you free shit, it's simply the freedom to go get your own shit. |

Yours is a very good position.
Here is the thing, use it to get an amendment. All I ask is for control of the beast. Had that been done with Social Security all of the money would be there and if it was not it was because we had decided to amend that.
The whole idea of our system is that citizens are in charge.
It's all about accountability. We cannot vote for the representatives in another State. So mistakes they make that hurt us must be limited. That is one reason why the Constitution has very specific powers because eventually you will lose all accountability. Most power is within the State because there you have accountability. Your Representatives and State may vote against a Health Care Plan and have no input whatsoever in it. But, you will still suffer when it goes down and who can you hold accountable? Who can you vote out? No one. So you have to limit the National Government to things that the States cannot handle alone or it is in the interest of all the States to have a unified system. And when you see that interest, like you have here, then you get an amendment. You do your best in that amendment to limit the power you are giving the national government. You may think that a national sales tax be used and a fund set up for the single purpose of funding this system and no other. The citizens have to become involved in this or you will end up with a non-working system and expanded Federal power. |

I think many states have tried to offer some for of health care to those who are rejected from private insurance firms and it doesn't work. I'll throw an example out there that I've personally seen a few times:
I had a friend who suffered from depression while in college. She was covered under insurance by under her parents. She received treatment and quickly recovered. I've taken a look at her records, and although I'm no expert she was in fantastic shape, no record of any other illness.
She than moved to Colorado to started up her own business, its still flourishing today.
But guess what?
Because she was being proactive about her medical condition and received a diagnosis
Because she didn't fucking slit her wrists or wait until she was self medicating with alcohol and drugs...
She was denied (applied to 4 HMOs)
She was honest and was punished for it.
This next part gets better:
So she applies for the insurance, COVER COLORADO that her state offers (which helps people get covered who were rejected).
SHE WAS REJECTED because YOU HAVE TO BE A RESIDENT FOR 6 MONTHS before you can get any kind of coverage.
And last but not least:
She broke her arm three months before getting coverage.
Slipped on an icy patch in front of her buissnes. No, she wasn't going to sue anyone...
she is still paying off her credit card debt for the ER visit.
Her business could be even more successful if she didn't have that fucking headache to deal with. :cheer: entrepreneurship and capitalism
Your point about social security has me thinking, there is a good chance most of us will never see a dime. My grandmother, god bless her soul, gets a nice check every month, but hardly paid into the system at all. Anyway, I'll have to read up a bit more on it... |

This is a very telling and important point. The number one cause of bankruptcy in this country is medical care. The system we have just stinks. Its designed to be there when you don't need it because thats when the bloody health care corporation make the make money.
No one should have to lose everything just because they get sick. Sure, the insurance company doesn't have to pay but then society has to absorb yet another citizen broken by the system. |
