If he wins these and then the largely black primaries coming up, Maryland, Virginia, and DC, it will really seem like he is cruising. It's all about perception. If more people think Obama is winning, more people will vote for him. |

It is realistic that Obama wins the next 9 primaries/caucuses
Quote: NINE -
That’s the number of races on the calendar between now and the end of February. Of them, four are caucuses (Nebraska, Washington, Maine, and Hawaii), four are primaries in states with a large percentage of African-American voters (Louisiana, Maryland, Virginia, and D.C.), and one is the primary in Wisconsin, a state with a long tradition of pragmatic progressivism and a bent toward retail politics. All of which is to say that there’s a reasonable chance that nine is also the number of races in a row that Clinton seems poised to lose before we get to Ohio and Texas, where she is favored. And if that’s the case, the momentum accruing to Obama may prove overwhelming. |
Huckabee has just won the Kansas caucus |

It could actually be better that the Republican race is essentially over, since a competitive Democratic race will get much more free press than the decided GOP one. This is free media for both candidates. |

Better in what way? By better I mean that the longer the Republican race goes on the more the ignorance of the candidates will be exposed. And it's just more entertaining. Here comes the Huckabee surge! |
|
|

Maybe its better that Huckabee is running because it distracts them from creating a Swift Boat-type controversy targeted at Obama. The democrats are notoriously horrible at responding to that type of muckraking.
Peggy Noonan has an awesome article in the Wall Street Journal regarding Hillary vs. Obama.. its a must read. I'll post in a sec |

It's funny that you don't see the Obama 'swift-boating' is coming from other Democrats; namely one lady senator from NY and her surrogates.

No.... When both parties have their candidate I will expect the swift boating. What I've seen so far isn't comparable. I've seen what Bill Clinton has said towards Barack but it hasn't been over the top.
The republicans will definately bring in the poop once the race gets closer to elections. |

Yeah, keep those expectations sky high.
A friendly tip - you are not doing the guy any favors. By expecting him to sweep the next 9 primaries, anything short of that will be cast in the media as a failure on Obama's part.

Those vote totals for Kansas and Nebraska are so tiny, nobody lives out there or turnout was terrible!
Can't the Democratic party get some people to set up "residence" in these red states and turn the tide once and for all in congressional and senate races? |
|
|
| Reverend Tyler |
There was a huge turnout today in Nebraska...
link
Quote: Thousands of people statewide overflowed school gyms, sat in traffic and stood in groups on Saturday to be counted as part of Nebraska’s first Democratic presidential caucus.
Sen. Barack Obama was in tight race with Sen. Hillary Clinton for the Democratic nomination, with 24 delegates at stake in Nebraska.
In Douglas County, the state’s most populous county, an average of 1,000 people turned out at each of 15 caucus sites, said Eric Fought, spokesman for the state party.
Sarpy County had one caucus site for 28,000 registered Democrats, triggering traffic backups for miles and complaints from voters while changing the way officials conducted the caucus. …
Law enforcement shut down Highway 370 and the intersection leading into the site — a school cafeteria — because the area was packed with cars.
The influx of people was so massive that volunteers began collecting preference cards for people who preferred Obama or Clinton, then allowing them to leave. Traditional caucus procedures allow for more interaction, with supporters standing on either side of a room trying to persuade the undecided and not-so-sure supporters of other candidates to join them. …
The turnout was so high that officials in Douglas and Sarpy counties announced that they would delay the announcement of their results at least one-and-a-half hours. |

What's an accurate delegate tally at this point? |
|
|
| Reverend Tyler |
You mean overall? Clinton leads by just over a hundred if you include the super delegates, not counting tonight
We wont know how many delegates Obama won tonight until tomorrow, but his landslides are certainly a good size he will win a large chunk of them.
And as soon as I said that Chuck Todd on MSNBC said it looks like, again including super-delegates, that Obama will be within 30-40 delegates |

TX, OH, and PA should be interesting. I'd give Hillary the edge in PA, but not sure about the other two.
But several big victories by Obama will buoy him, that's for sure.

Hillary would have to win ALL 3 States of TX, OH, PA to stay close with Obama. Keep in mind that Obama is not only winning these states in February, but winning them by 65% to 35% margins, instead of 55% to 45% margins that Hillary wins the big states with. This will make a difference in proportional delegate assignments. |

Yes, due to the "Superdelegates."
If she wins the nomination without winning a majority of votes, purely on her political machine & the back-room deals, it'll be BAD for them.
Also bear in mind that Hillary on the ballot means they have less of a chance of winning the presidency, and it will KILL Democrats running for lower offices in red states. |

I think the primary reason Obama is winning is because of his personal qualities. His core positions are not significantly different than Clinton's. He is tall, thin, and handsome; she is short, fat, and old. His oratorical abilities are comparable to Martin Luther King's; she has an irritating voice. Yes, there are other factors in play also. |

He has yet to win a big state. Obama can pick off 10 little states as he has done, but she wipes that out with California alone. And the remainder of the calendar has Ohio, Texas and then Pennsylvania.

Don't be stupid. What kind of a speech do you expect him to give after a night of voting? Since he won I would expect him to give a victory speech that is motivating. Why would you expect him to go down the line of domestic policies in detail? That would would be fucked up. If you need to keep hearing his policies just go to his web page or previous recorded debates. |
