This Email Just in from the Washington State Coordinator!

Hello everyone,

By our very preliminary count from you reports it is looking like we have at least twice the delegates as the other candidates!!
For this day and until the count shows otherwise I want you to congratulate yourselves for WINNING Washington State for Ron Paul!!
I wish I could share every single story I have heard over the past few days and all the happy reports from Ron Paul enclaves in WA towns I have never even heard of!
Please know this…the National Campaign is seeing these kind of successes all over the country…Every day that goes by we have new supporters and new contributers. I can’t believe I am saying this…I thought certainly I would sleep for 4 days once the 9th was over…but I am already so excited to prepare for our County Conventions!! The next few weeks are going to be very important…There were stories from almost every precinct about Huckabee and Romney voters changing their support to Ron Paul. Unfortunately some of the biggest threats to the Freedom Revolution can still come from within…our own perceptions…please read Ron’s letter again until you see the part that states he we are going to the National Convention! You know things have changed every day in this campaign with new information and new victories changing the course…now we have given him Washington and made the road to the Minneapolis a lot more golden!!

I will update you all when we get more final results…

You all did a wonderful job. Just wonderful.

Thank you for all you do!

Who or what is "you reports?"

Zero.

He is currently talking to both the Clinton and Obama camps, selling his endorsement.

It looks like a grammar mistake. The email is from the Ron Paul 2008 Washington state coordinator.

Obama is leading in delegates now. :)

When will you say you're sorry?

I won't.

As I said over and over, I miscalculated when Clinton will deliver the knockout blow.

Look, Obama is doing very well for himself - that is without question.
However, he is picking off these smaller states which, to use a sports analogy, is like a team scoring on safeties and field goals. Obama has yet to win a large state (Illinois, his home turf, the exception) and there are 3 big ones coming up. Hillary will score touchdowns in these states in both the vote count and pledged delegates. To put it another way, Obama can glide along in February only to watch his lead get completely wiped out on March 4th, with the knockout blow coming on April 22nd in Pennsylvania.

Looking at the numbers, I don't see how Paul can claim that he won the state - either via pledged delegates or the popular vote.

That said, I commend him for doing very well.

The popular vote is basically just a straw poll. What matters is the delegates that are elected at the precinct level. According to this source, which I judge to be moderately credible, committed Ron Paul delegates and uncommitted delegates who are Ron Paul supporters outnumber the other candidates' delegates by a ratio of two to one.

How does he win twice the delegates when he finishes last in the total vote?

It's the caucus election process. My understanding is that the total votes that the media reports is only a glorified straw poll. What matters is the delegates that are elected at the precinct level to go to the county and state conventions. That information has not been reported yet.

yeah but delegates are usually awarded based on who wins the precincts...Did Ron Paul really win landslides in 2/3 of the state, only to get shut out in the last 1/3?

Again, delegates are not elected based on which presidential candidate wins the popular vote straw poll in each precinct, they are elected on the basis of which delegate receives the most votes in the precinct caucus.
